Jucos can be a way to get experienced known good players. We have an offer to another juco, Desmond Owino from Raleigh. That name sounds familiar like he could have been in the works two years ago and wound up in juco. At any rate he also has an offer from ECU. He’s a 6-5 255 DE. I’m all for any extra experience on the defensive side of the ball.

Workman is from a junior college Contra Costa College so he comes with experience. BYU offered him too.

Sorry to disagree VAW but Clemson IMO is the best 2 loss team in the country since they lost on opening day to a top notch team from the SEC and to the #1 team in the country. That is not a typical two loss team. There were just too many variables in that game for us. Spent emotions, early two score deficit, A QB that is on fire (BTW, had he been starting from day one Clemson very likely is undefeated right now and ranked in the top 5). Lots of things went into that loss that are above and beyond categorizing our offense as average. Ask Jimbo if he considers us average. Ultimately what put us in a really bad situation is our defense is pitiful, and Clemson has some monsters on their defense.

it would be my guess that at least 90% of the time or higher no matter what the level of competition in football an outstanding defense trumps outstanding offense. The champions have both most of the time. Why is that? Because the offense has to score, the defense can not only prevent the offense from scoring but can also score within that process. I give you Beasely taking the ball right out of Brisett’s hand and toting it to the end zone. I cannot recall any championship team in the NFL or college that did not have a top notch defense and i’ve been watching both for over half a century. If any have won a championship without their defense ranking near the top then it’s an anomaly, and anomalies rarely occur in championships. The supposed underdog does win, but it’s my assertion that statistically those teams that float to the top usually do so on the backs of the defense. The underdog does not get into the championship game on the backs of those on only one side of the ball.

On the DD show last night he made the comment that he had a hard time keeping them focused after we went down 14 early. When Clemson decided to take the ball first I knew we were in trouble. Steve Logan talked about it yesterday, and said Between Beasly and the offense we were toast. I hate it but the Watson kid is gonna give us fits for at least 2 more years. There is a reason he was tops in the country, he’s that good. My estimation is Johnny football got nothing on him. And Winston is no where close to being as good as he is. Had he been ready to go when they played FSU they would have smoked them. He will torch every team they play the rest of the way out. We caught him at the wrong time. That being said if we are going to beat Clemson anytime soon we better get a top notch defense. Part of me wonders if Huxtable can do it.

PIR, they cut them up into 10.3″ inch sections and sold them for 103.

To me, this is the worst beatdown I’ve remember as a member of the Pack. That’s going back over 20 years.

TOB’s first year we lost 37 – 0 to Maryland. That was tough. Last game of the season too!

And a bit more on that Grey, 51 freshmen or RS freshmen, that is awfully young. I know that loss will get in between their ears, but, they have to forget about it and move on. 8 – 4 is very possible. Focus and prepare for the next opponent.

LRM, FSU was the last regular season game that year, cold cold night in November, Thanksgiving weekend. They tore BOTH of them down. The wolpfack club cut them up into 10.3″ sections and sold them to commemorate our 10 – 3 season. Like I said, seeing the masses carrying them off by passing them from person to person overhead looked just like ants working. There is a pic running around of it, one of the store that sells prints in the mall had them.

That’s over 17 YPC, and 2.66 carries per touchdown. Dayumn! The guy is a beast or they were playing St. Swithuns High. I saw Herschel Walker do that same thing in high school in just over 2.5 quarters. Just sayin’. He could wind up breaking TA’s NC high school record of 7 in a game. TA still owns the national record of 178 in a career, not sure how far away RG is from that.

I’m not a Tudor fan by any means but that was one pretty good article. I have all ideas that swoff got involved. Even more reasons that a$$HAT should be gone. If’n i were DD I’d make swoff watch some replays of some classic holding too!

We had a pretty good defense back then too, especially 2001. FSU coming to town late in the season on a Saturday night and walked out losers. The tearing down of the goal posts was one of the neatest things I’ve ever seen. As the masses were passing them overhead they looked like ants working. It was freaky. The Gator bowl was beyond special. The ND QB getting racked at the goal line and then having to sit the rest of the day spelled doom and gloom for them. Sean Berton, the tight end, after that game said the ND defensive back asked him how many plays were in our play book, his answer was “playbookS, not playbook”. This was also the guy who nicknamed CTC, Lucifer.

Those are some REALLY impressive numbers on offense. gonna give you a mental image. What if we had super Mario, Nate, and pick two others who were defensive standouts in the backfield. This team would REALLY be tough to play. We are just so so young on the D side of the ball. My thoughts are they are going to be pretty darned good by the last 3 games of the year. And I’ve never been one to say “wait until next year” but…this bunch will have a load of experience and if we could just get one or two significant recruits on D it could be a killer team.

And if Swoff would dare to even think about a fine I’d have a video tape ready in hand to say “PROVE WHAT I SAID WAS WRONG!!!!!!!” Then I’d tell him “Try and make me pay that fine!”

WPS, Military Appreciation Day is really special at the Carter, I know, I’ve been to a bunch of them. DY is as good as it gets when it comes to things like this. Many times I’ve thought about how lucky we are to have gotten her. It takes time to turn a big ship around (a 180 if you will), and she is managing that. The last 3 years are positive proof. Have fun at the game, and stand tall soldier. Your service is appreciated and commended.

My take on the defensive player “diving” … Only let that player be substituted for AND the rest of the defense has to stay in the middle of the field, no going to the side lines and getting “coached up”, AND no coaches can come out on the field. There should be no way ANY advantage goes to the defense in this situation. It may give the D a rest, and truthfully no way to determine if it was a dive or not, BUT these rules would not allow any advantage for “taking a dive”. In hockey that’s a 2 minute minor.

I wonder if they have done analysis of how well the play works. To me they kept going to that well when regular running play or play action would have worked much better

I think swoff made the call to the refs during one of those play reviews early in the second quarter telling them that the ACC couldn’t have an FSU debacle in The Carter AGAIN and to put the brakes on what was happening. For sure I saw tons of holding and such every time FSU had the ball after a certain point in the second quarter. I hate to bring up conspiracy theories once again but … it sure seems like we get the short end of the stick with the refs quite often. On a positive note I haven’t seen the ACC’s worst ref not named Hess, Ron Cherry, this year so that is a plus.
