Don’t look now, but there’s also a mess, a big hot mess, and the very bottom.

[edit]. Oops. I guess I should’ve said there’s one behind this keyboard. So this is actually a basketball post, not a football one. Got it.

The conference caved to Notre Dame; ND is only a partial ACC member. They remain independent in football. As part of the deal (on paper, advantageous to both sides if being objective), Notre Dame will play an average of 5 ACC teams ( NOT ACC games) every year. Those games are not conference games.

I just believe that you get better by playing teams better than you.

I agree. But where the NC State Football program is today, it also needs games it should win for that first step of the long journey. I use “should win” loosely. I’m taking nothing for granted in the first few games, nothing. Our 2014 2-deep could conceivably consist mostly of 1st and 2nd year players.

^ Even Swofford isn’t stupid enough to do something like that. I’m guessing you’re mistakenly counting Notre Dame as a conference opponent.

… if I thought we were going to win the national championship, I would have no interest in spending an afternoon in CF watching us play Presbyterian.

If we had a chance to win the national championship, I seriously doubt we’d be playing more than one ‘Presbyterian’.

By while we’re on the subject…

FSU’s 2013 schedule included home games against Bethune-Cookman and Idaho. I don’t think their fans are doing much complaining.

But I think we got it. You’re not happy with someone associated with NC State’s football program.

… but the long term goal is to get cheeks in seats, and I’m not sure how playing Georgia Southern, USF, ODU, and Presbyterian does that.

Playing Georgia Southern, USF, ODU, and Presbyterian isn’t about accomplishing long term goals. It’s about taking small early steps while pointed in the right direction.

I’m pretty disappointed with our non-conference schedule. I understand that we want to figure out how to win 6 games so we can go to the Cheesy-McNutts Bowl

After last year’s season’s, the fans of those teams could be saying the same thing about NC State being on their schedule.

I’m pretty sure if they enroll early (spring), they can count against this year’s numbers.

Dancing? Not sure about that. More like a controlled, voluntary seizure.

But then, to us middle aged white men, those might be synonyms (link for u*nc grads).

I posted this in the Maryland preview entry on the main blog, which may not get too much traffic the day after the game. This is too important to leave stranded out there.

Speaking of Ana’s… I’ve suggested to a few friends that, in the spirit of Title IX, the NCAA should make this (technically SFW) a sanctioned women’s sport. It obviously requires more athletic ability, strength, and fitness than many of the current sports. Trust me, as you watch it, this will become clear. It also has the added bonus of likely creating a brand new revenue sport.

    Oh well, it’s a thought.

Alpha I was right there with ya on RW

I think most were, CD and (hold on, patting myself on the back) myself being two exceptions. It was just a matter of how long before he got a chance to prove himself. As he said, he trusted in the Lord to lead him down the right path. Don’t think anyone could have possibly envisioned a better situation than where RW find himself just a few years removed from being de-teamed.

Something to be said about true faith.

Who in their right mind would want to actually buy a “Division Champions” ring stamped with “8-4?” A Raleigh sports bar that wanted to showcase it for comedy’s sake?

    Ummm….

    and the owner of this

Note to guys: we have played 32 minutes and committed 11 fouls…

Conspiracists would say that’s because we were playing the Terps. You know, that little $157 million lawsuit thingy. Swofford has never really been one to shy away from outwardly expressing his emotions.

I called him the Coach K of the NFL on Sunday. I may owe Coach K an apology.

But Harbaugh does earn a few points from me for the khakis. I can appreciate the thrifty no nonsense approach to ‘fashion’. Even more so given his bank roll.

WTF happened to Pam Oliver’s hair? Is she going for the Mufasa look?

Ah, Erin Summers, of course. I remember her. Physically attractive girls become so less so to me when they constantly say stupid and ignorant things, no matter their ranking on the hotness meter. Even more so when their own opinion of that ranking exceeds reality. It’s a curse that dramatically limits the pool.

That must be why I forgot about her.

ESPN has him as a 4 star, #290 in their top 300. I assume many of you saw the ESPN scroll announcing this during the UMD game.

Cuz needs to be a leader…. I’m sorry I didn’t see more of that tonight.

Ain’t gonna happen, at least not overt leadership. Just not in his makeup. Asking him to do it would be the square peg through the round hole scenario. Would come off forced and fake.

We need organic leadership, but I just don’t see it with this group. Only ones, from my distant view anyway, I see with that potential this season is Lewis and Washington. Unfortunately, I don’t think Lewis’s mind is right to play that role, and Washington is a freshman still feeling like a freshman.

This is two years running now. Not a condemnation of Gott, but not a good sign either.

Say what you will about K, but he’s a great coach and this is exactly one of the reasons why. His players police themselves. So much so, that when there is a failure in this area, it is such the rare exception that it becomes a story of the game. That is not an accident.
