Here is NC State’s 2014 Football Schedule. The open dates are good, 9/27 – 10/18 is bad. Aug. 30 Georgia Southern (Wolfpack Club Day) Sept. 6 Old Domi[See the full post at: 2014 NC State Football Schedule is Out with Quick Thoughts]

01/22/2014 at 4:00 PM #38128budfox88ParticipantWonder who’s idea it was for the back to back a$$ poundings of FSU and VerKlemptson? Ouch!!!! Gonna be interesting to see how we hold up physically this year…hope it’s better than last several!!!
01/22/2014 at 4:07 PM #38134Prowling WoofieParticipantThat’s a murederer’s row for us – FSU, @Clemson, BC (with whom we always struggle), then @Louisville.
Swofford’s taking out UNX’s public embarrassment on us.
01/22/2014 at 4:22 PM #38135FergusWolfParticipantI’m pretty disappointed with our non-conference schedule. I understand that we want to figure out how to win 6 games so we can go to the Cheesy-McNutts Bowl, but the NC schedule is awful.
So, we have home games against:
Georgia Southern – former FCS stud
ODU – current FBS dud
Southern Florida – past their Hayday
Presbyterian – current FCS dud
FSU – National Champions
BC – current ACC bottom feeder
GT – current ACC bottom feeder
WF – current ACC bottom feederFrankly, who’s going to buy tickets?
01/22/2014 at 4:27 PM #38136GreywolfParticipantGood to see the schedule out. Gives us something to complain about to balance the recruiting going well.
Jackwolf predicted wins are doable although I would love to swap one of our Ws for that L in our last game.
My short wish list for 2014:
Jacoby Brissett is half as good or better than Dorean believes he is
We get a magic wand waved over the defense and we show up like bad asses.
Brian Underwood has an All ACC type year01/22/2014 at 4:35 PM #38137FergusWolfParticipantAt least 1/2 of the other ACC teams have chosen to play games outside the conference…
BC – Play Southern Cal
Clempson – Plays Georgia and South Carolina
FSU – Plays Oklahoma State, Notre Dame (semi-NC), and Florida
Louisville – Notre Dame (again, semi-NC)
NCSU – Nobody!
Syracuse –Maryland,I mean Nobody!
WF – Nobody!
Duke –Kansas…oops sorry, wrong sport, Nobody!
GT – Georgia
Miami – Nebraska
UNC – Notre Dame (again, semi-NC)
Pitt – Nobody…I mean Iowa
Virginia – UCLA
VT – Ohio StateAlas, we will be spending the year on ESPN3 and the ACC Network…
01/22/2014 at 5:59 PM #38139LRMKeymasterBetter get used to this type of scheduling, it seems to be Doeren’s preference.
I imagine Presby will be optional for season tix holders like Richmond was last year.
01/22/2014 at 6:53 PM #38140TheCOWDOGModeratorLeRM, I’ve got the greatest of respect for you, so you might be holding cards I can’t see.
I was about to go off on Yow, as the AD who is the “arrainger” for OCC ( with coach input. )
In his years at NIU, they played 2…Two FCS teams.
Please ‘splain about getting used to it, my man.
I’m really, really perplexed on how Yow had to fill the slate with 3 FCers.
01/22/2014 at 7:01 PM #38141Pack85EEParticipantFerguswolf, I hate to say it but I think BC, GT and WF are playing @ the current bottom feeder. Hopefully that will not be the case by the time GT and Wake come calling.
And hopefully we’ll schedule tougher when we get the players we need.
01/22/2014 at 7:15 PM #38142wolf71ParticipantI am happy that recruiting is going well, but next year will be a tough one again. 4-8 to 5-7 at best. Hopefully a full offseason will help the coaches and the players.
01/22/2014 at 8:06 PM #38143LRMKeymasterCow, no special insights. I remember hearing or reading a comment Doeren made about his scheduling philosophy. It could be Deb or a combination of factors. Either way, it’s the season ticket holders who suffer.
01/22/2014 at 9:59 PM #38144GreywolfParticipant“Who’s going to buy tickets?”
I expect it will be the same Wolfpack fans who bought tickets last year.
With over 50 RF and freshmen on the 2014 squad, the AD probably saw that a strong early schedule (in addition to FSU and Clemson) loaded with teams running up big scores would not be the best for NCSU. With the spring, fall camp and an early easy schedule, we may be ready to play our fellow ‘bottom feeders’ on a more equal footing.
I for one trust the AD to know what she is doing even if I don’t totally agree or like it.
01/22/2014 at 10:03 PM #38145GreywolfParticipantand replacing a Maryland on our schedule isn’t as easy as one might think. I intend to enjoy the good weather and the tailgating and the band, cheerleaders and those girls in the tight black pants as the march into the stadium. Makes my day!
01/22/2014 at 10:20 PM #38146inhoc…ParticipantI’m really, really perplexed on how Yow had to fill the slate with 3 FCers
Had a hard finding a W against anyone IN the conference last year, might as well try to get em where you can find em.
Wolf71, 4-8, 5-7 unfortunately looks realistic, when I try to think about the talent/experience returning. My hunch is that the O might have an OK line and some magic with RBs/WRs but D? OH MY! I’ll note that the D did do much better than the O last year on many occasions….hopefully that production continues.
01/23/2014 at 9:27 AM #38151GreywolfParticipantMr. DOG,
I may be mistaken but I think that 2 of the 3 FCS teams are moving up to FBS status and as such count as FBS. If you want to play a weaker schedule this is not a bad way to do it.Have no fear this type scheduling will not be the future.
01/23/2014 at 9:38 AM #38152FergusWolfParticipantI understand that there are warring interests here, but the long term goal is to get cheeks in seats, and I’m not sure how playing Georgia Southern, USF, ODU, and Presbyterian does that.
Greywolf said:

Those were the same Wolfpack fans who were castigated by DD for not coming back in the 2nd half. The same Wolfpack fans that, by the end of the season, left CF looking like Kenan stadium (< 1/2 full I mean).
I know that we have to win to get people to buy tickets, but even if I thought we were going to win the national championship, I would have no interest in spending an afternoon in CF watching us play Presbyterian.
I’m not saying our out of conference schedule should be Alabama, Oregon, Oklahoma, and Michigan…but it shouldn’t be what it is either.
I remember playing OOC games against Texas, Tennesee, Baylor, Alabama, Purdue, Syracuse (when they were good), Miami (pre-ACC), etc…

After last year’s season’s, the fans of those teams could be saying the same thing about NC State being on their schedule.
01/23/2014 at 10:09 AM #38155tjfoose1Participant… but the long term goal is to get cheeks in seats, and I’m not sure how playing Georgia Southern, USF, ODU, and Presbyterian does that.
Playing Georgia Southern, USF, ODU, and Presbyterian isn’t about accomplishing long term goals. It’s about taking small early steps while pointed in the right direction.
01/23/2014 at 10:13 AM #38156tjfoose1Participant… if I thought we were going to win the national championship, I would have no interest in spending an afternoon in CF watching us play Presbyterian.
If we had a chance to win the national championship, I seriously doubt we’d be playing more than one ‘Presbyterian’.
By while we’re on the subject…
FSU’s 2013 schedule included home games against Bethune-Cookman and Idaho. I don’t think their fans are doing much complaining.
But I think we got it. You’re not happy with someone associated with NC State’s football program.
01/23/2014 at 10:30 AM #38159WulfpackParticipantI would usually be joining the complain train, but we are coming off a winless ACC season. This is a total rebuild. Not sure that getting spanked around even more than we already are in conference is such a good idea. This young team needs confidence.
01/23/2014 at 10:55 AM #38160FergusWolfParticipantFSU’s 2013 schedule included home games against Bethune-Cookman and Idaho. I don’t think their fans are doing much complaining.
Not to mention the Nevada Wolf Pack. I’m no fan of their schedule, but at least they had Florida on it (granted Florida wasn’t even a good team this year), but in essence, I’ll go ahead and agree. When the Wolfpack wins all of our conference games, plus the conference championship by an average score of 50-12, I’ll stop complaining about our OOC schedule too…
Frankly, I don’t hold a specific grudge against the anyone in the athletic department, I just believe that you get better by playing teams better than you. By playing these sorts of games (and I know, everyone has 2 or 3 of these), I believe you relegate us to the also ran position…
Of course, the natural argument is that at least 8 teams on our schedule ARE better than us, so why over do it…
On the other hand, if you don’t play any real OOC games, then you have no chance at an OOC statement win…
01/23/2014 at 11:16 AM #38161Pack85EEParticipantIdeally you would start easy and get a little harder each week and then have a Bye before the….. Oh!
But many of you have a point, why buy tickets and travel to CF for a Bye.
01/23/2014 at 11:41 AM #38165GreywolfParticipantI moved from the west side to the east side in the second half of our last home game. The sun felt really good. I looked over at the west stands and saw many empty seats while the east stands were fairly well populated.
Regardless, I resent the comparison of Carter-Finley to Kenan. Why? Because there is no comparison when it comes to attendance. If one could buy tickets to games at Kenan for the price of the people who actually attend and sell them for the number claimed to be there, one could fund the indoor practice facility.
