in pro games rarely do you see Head Coaches calling plays or defenses. There are college teams managed this way as well. Coordinators are held accountable for the calls and decisions they make. If you’ve ever wondered why good coordinators make the money they make, this is a big part of the reason. The HC’s job is to be a presence on the sideline, butt slapper and attaboy dispenser. An important part of the HC’s job is to be available for consultation if a coordinator wants to deviate from the game plan.

This is very well stated. Mack Brown comes to mind. Were it not for Greg Davis he’d be on the heap pile.

I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
    The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
    My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

Not commenting on why I might be putting this up here or in reference to who it might pertain.

Could be one side, could be the other. Could be both, and the third side.

Not very optimistic, in any case.

    X-Men take out ‘Zona. Goody.

I love Tucson but I’ll be damned if I ever pull for the U of A. Jackass coach with unx desires, local journalism grad (Danny Harnden at Fox 8 in High Point) with unx allegiances, and espn basketball “expert” Jeff Goodman who went to ‘Zona.

How such a nice place turned out such jerks is beyond me.

    Saguaro.

State is a phase in some people’s lives.

    Nothing more, nothing less.

It is what you want it to be.

Very true. For most of us, it has been and always will be the dominant formative period of our lives. It’s tough when you’ve got someone in a head coaching position, when your’s is open, who attended the University and should share that experience but doesn’t.

Actually, Redwolf, I’d say generation has little to do with it. The mentor over the school is timeless.

Thanks, CD, and yes, you are probably right. When a mentor seems to get mistreated by an institution (once again, not saying for a second that was the case at State under Sendek, although those close to him probably interpreted it that way), his followers tend to sour on the institution.

I think, undoubtedly, that’s what happened here.

I’ve always gotten a really bad vibe off of Sean Miller. Archie, not so much, but I never thought he’d be chomping at the bit to come back here.

OK, this is going to get me eviscerated, but it needs to be said.

Archie was NEVER coming here. It’s not a screwup on Yow or anybody else. Archie has come to hate the NC State fanbase, and regard it as a joke. His wife reiterated it on Twitter.

In these times, with younger guys, their loyalty is more to their mentors than their school.

However misguided I feel it is, the Millers interpreted Herb’s treatment as unfair and a deal breaker as far as filling the HC job later. So much so that Sean thinks he’ll be in play for the UNC job. And that ought to give everybody that loves NC State pause.

We need to divorce ourselves from these people. We have an opportunity to make a fresh start. And the Millers have made it abundantly clear they want nothing to do with us.

If you ain’t NC State 100%, you ain’t NC State.

I am bumping this, not in the interest of self-promotion, but to make one thing clear:

I really, really hope that I was completely off-base and completely wrong in my assessment that was the genesis of this thread.

Would Duke Michigan and maybe Texas be in that top tier?

I’d say Duke probably (based on last 30 years). Michigan and Texas, not so much. Always second fiddle to football no matter how much money they can throw at you.

As trite as it sounds, money ain’t everything.

I’m 95% percent opposed to Keatts. I try not to go in absolutes.

    But, just, no.

Clemson bows out of the NIT early, losing to Oakland.

So Brownell, perhaps with his job on the line, manages to blow a 19-point lead at halftime and at home. Very interesting.

I’d expect Brownell to be out soon. And, no, he’s not the coach for us.

If Brownell has already been fired, my apologies. Don’t seem to keep up with things like I used to.

I would love nothing more than to be wrong about Keatts, but I’ve actually seen them play start to finish a half dozen times this year, and they overpower people with talent that should be at a higher level. Half court defense is non-existent. I like the guy personally but there is nothing I’ve seen in UNCW’s style that translates into success for us.

NIT put UNCG in Syracuse first round. BWAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Only thing better would have been making Cuse go on the road to play in the Coliseum. I’d have gone to see that.

You know, I remember back in the Herbie days, being really ticked off because it looked like the team had quit.

    And they pretty much had.

But this…this may be a historic quit.
