My other theory is that coaches like this are not really analytical thinkers. They just aren’t able to see all the details, logic, geometry, really see what drives winners And losers.

Well you can probably tell I am an engineer.

    Well done! Great analysis.

It has been clear to me for some time Gott either didn’ t coach defense or didn’t demand it from his players. It has turned me off so much, to be incompetent at defense that it is hard to wTch the team.

What I don’t understand is why he hasn’t tried to fix it. Surely he knows he doesn’t coach it very well. Surely he knows you are not going anywhere without a good defense. Is it an ego problem.

It is clear to me Gott is not a discplininarian. I have just assumed he is hard headed and determine to coach his way regardless of what is obvious to everyone watching his teams play.

Any thoughts as to why we are where we are.

Samuels sets a new record for barely getting the ball over the stripe. Sometimes I just wish he would run over the guy and fall into the end zone. Nonetheless, great drive!!!!

    Well said, O Capitan.

Da ville anticipate our plays? We have seen this before under Canada. Jet sweep becomes ineffective as the season wears on and the competition heats up. Pass routes become stale as opponents know our tendencies.

Superior coaching, statistical tendencies, AND/OR sign stealing???

Whatever, Damn the Eagles, Full Steam Ahead!!

Gott does need to remain shirted and prove to all he is a good coach and well overachieves the predicted 6th place finish.

Wish I still had my season tics this year.

CD, don’t forget the race will affected by a breed of 8 (I think) stripped donkeys. Will they knock the red and white ponies sideways and backwards so much that even Big Red couldn’t overcome such a handicap.

Cow man, love your posts, if I only understood them. Lol

I don’t think the Klem will be overlooking us and I fear we won’t play that well following an emotional-Matthew-laden victory.

Nevertheless, our Dline is tough and maybe our homeless looking D Coordinator ain’t as dumb as I have been scribing over the years. I’ve even seen some effective blitzes once in a blue moon.

I tend to drink less since we have a new O Cordinator. You know, more rational play design and play calling and less ADD type stuff out of nowhere.

Anyway, Sitting in the well-covered Dail club last week and sipping a beer watching the ongoings last weekend was classic and peaceful. I like the ongoing experiment.

I wouldn’t get too excited yet. Gott fell flat in Leslie’s last year when we were predicted to compete in the ACC. His rep as a good coach took a huge hit.

It would be a huge step forward if he shows he can field a solid team that can play defense and runs something on offense other than one man dribbling and another running the baseline.

I will hold my breath, but I think we have seen the future with Gott. Hope I am wrong and he becomes a good coach to complement his recruiting.

Always a great read, Wufpacker. Thanks. Great win last night. Would you say this is our best hitting club, power wise, in some time??

I guess all your writer buddies have either gone senile or have writers cramp.

Maybe it is the general state of Wolfpack revenue sports?

Revenue or not, I like the generally steady improvement in the nonrevenue sports. Put the money where we clearly have exceptional coaches and let’s see if we can become a perennial power in Anything.

    Well done Vawolf.

I tend to sink into the coach bashing mode, myself. I have never understood player bashing. The players all want to win and are largely the product of recruiting and coaching. About the only time it ain’t totally on the coach are his/her first few years.

There are so many examples of dramatic differences in an athletic team’ performance with exceptional coaching. I would love to see us invest in the absolute best coaches and build a few national caliber teams. And it doesn’t have to be the two revenue sports. I would blow up the budgets for wrestling, swimming, and anything else where it was clear we had some apparently exceptional coaches. A national championship or two would do wonders for Wolfpack nation. I know it would for me.

I would invest in an analytic group within the AD that supported all coaching and recruiting in all sports. I mean that the coaching hires and timing of coaching hires would be so thoroughly analyzed that we would rarely get stuck with no options for a likely exceptional candidate. And, it would include budget modeling so that we would be able to hire the best of the best in some programs and try to get lucky in others with newcomer potential and cheaper hires.

Don’t know if any of this makes sense, time to either go back to bed or make some coffee and let the dog out.

I am afraid Gott is on the down slide. Hopefully, he can right the ship next year, but there seem to be so many flaws in his program from recruiting to coaching, or lack thereof, to in game decisions, and playing only 7-8 guys. Does anyone see us as a contender in the ACC with Gott at the helm.

A good coach can make a real difference in a program. It has been proven a 1000 times in athletics. It doesn’t take long to see it. And it usually takes a few years in the WL column, however.

CONGRATS to WES and WBB team.

If we don’t throw over the middle, it is the OCs job to fix it. Hey all 5’9″ of RW throws over the middle all the time.

Canada’s plays and play calling were baffling in critical games. Sideways, forgetting about the middle of the field, forgetting about personnel, predictable down and distance calls. I have never seen anyone run the ball on 2 and long as much as he did. It was like his plan was to get to 3ird and 5. He was no match for any decent team. We got a lot of points in those games after it was well decided. I honestly don’t think we can do worse.

If DD keeps the DC, then we should go ahead and can him as well. What a totally disorganized and predictable defense. We got behind quickly in most big games. Look for more of the same next year. A year more experience under our players belt will not make a difference with these coaches.

DY timing for contract extensions in FB and BB was perhaps the worst ever. What was she thinking. Good Riddance if our coaches got picked off, but it wasn’t even close to happening. Did she really think DD’s 0-8 and 3-5 was a big deal and someone was going to steal this star coach. Wow.

She is far better than Lee, but lacks analytical skills/team to consistently hire great coaches.

Here’s hoping we have a great QB coming up and a new OC that can light it up.

Move long overdue. We haven’t shown much analytical analysis of folks that we hire, including DD. I think we need that type of background work to really make the best decision and pay what it takes. DD hired two coordinators that had just been fired and, further, neither had ever really done much in their careers. It was just a dumb idea. If DY couldn’t pony up enough money to hire $1M coordinators when DD was brought in, then she wasn’t thinking either. It does no good to bring in a new head coach without careful analysis and plenty of $ to get the best proven coaches possible.

DD is not analytical. We did not show any real coaching excellence over the past 3 years. You can see quality coaching immediately and we saw none of it, really since day 1.

There is still risk even if you pay big $ for top coordinators and assistants. But, if you don’t, you are likely to fail.

I think DD was a mistaken hire, but here’s to being proven wrong and that new coaches can make a real difference.

I think we will have to live and die by the blitz. Otherwise Marpuss will burn our generally inept secondary. I think we have to get the occasional stop but expected to get burned numerous times.

I don’t see us able to hang with their receivers. I think they. One out and throw it deep on the first play.

Our run game needs to be at its prime. Jacoby needs to have his best game. If we can keep their front 4 off of Brisset, will have a chance.

Brisset cannot complete a pass when he is rolling out.

McClendon must not be as good as billed. Otherwise, it seems they would use him on occasion, esp when Brisset can hit the board side of the proverbial barn.
