Sounds like Dr Yow bellied up to the bar contract wise. This will be good for recruiting and internal credibility among the high school coach and parent crowd.

The use of Jacoby by our staff in the UNC game was different due to a couple of things. Obviously we figured that the UNC run defense was poor. We also could take more chances with Jacoby running than in earlier games. He was our only legit QB so earlier in the season we had to protect against injury. With the off week to get healthy before the UNC game and off weeks before the bowl we could run him more and had to worry less about injury.

Next year and during the bowl we can tailor the offense more to his skill set. The bowl is the end of the year and next year redshirt will be off of Jalan Mcclendon so we will have another option should Jacoby get hurt. This will allow Jacoby to take more chances even if his long ball does not improve.

I think that this is a good example of the staff using the (limited) assets that we have to maximum effect.

    Thoughts from others.

The thing that folks forget about with dissing the Pack defense is the impact of one and done (both transfers and early entrants) and the restrictions on coaching time. It used to be that most players stayed 4 years. There was continuity and repetition of defensive principles. With the limits on coaching time Gott and his staff have to make decisions on how to spend that time. I believe that as our offense has gotten more refined over the 3 years our defense will also with more time and players in the system for longer. I do believe that Gott chooses to allocate more time to offense but defense will move to at least avg in the coming years. You can look at Duke to see the impact of limited practice and player turnover on defense. K’s defense is no where near as intense as it was 15 years ago.

    Thoughts?

As an 84 graduate I remember the best years. The last year of Stormin Norman, the selection of V, and finally 1983. I also remember Duke’s selection of K and how he struggled in the early years. However we will all agree that K has been hugely successful. I think that much of K’s success comes from attention to detail. Take a look at how he has interacted with Jabari Parker.

I hope that our all star staff is giving such detailed instruction.
