“Everything is business as usual in Crapel Thrill and recruiting is still doing fine. What does that tell me? It tells me the kids don’t give 2 $hits about the “black cloud”. Why should they? Obviously it’s not effecting the sports programs over there.”

You are absolutely correct. Sanctions have had very little impact on Ohio State or USC. The same will hold true for UNC. After a half-hearted NCAA sanction period, the heels will resume their winning ways. The ACC and NCAA will not let THAT program fail. I can bet my mortgage, wife, and first born on that.

Not to seem petty, but when did the Jimmy V logo become Carolina Blue? I just noticed this when watching the ACC/Big10 challenge.

Great comments by DD. I hope he can accomplish his goal and do what no one since Sheridan has been able to do – establish a winning program. Only time will tell, but let’s enjoy this win for now. Go Pack!

Foul shooting will probably improve marginally at best. Those of us who played the game realize foul shooting is part mental and part mechanical – you either have it or you don’t. Unfortunately, this team does not have it and I agree that the lack of good free throw shooting will keep us from being anything but mediocre.

    From CNN:

Willingham also said she believes it took so many years and six previous investigations because “this is the flagship of the university system and of the state, and to admit we did anything wrong was too difficult. There is a level of arrogance here, and that’s part of the culture.”

    (Now that statement is priceless)

There are so many issues with this ‘Class Checker’, where do I begin:

    1) Someone actually approved these positions. Knowing the UNC bureaucracy as I do, many administrators had to approve this posting and apparently thought this was a great idea.

    2) What message does this send to college athletes? ‘you are not responsible’, ‘you must be treated like babies’

    3) How is this preparing these athletes for the real world? Is someone going to check on them at their first job? Make sure they do not miss meetings, monitor their attendance, etc. Oh wait, their boss will do this and I am sure the boss will be understanding since they are former UNC athletes (sarcasm intended).

But, but Jim Martin stated that there was no link between the athletic department and the no show classes. Martin is a former governor and credible source (sarcasm intended).

This one hurts…I mean it really really hurts. This is my first visit to SFN since the loss. I intentionally did not want to express any thoughts given the emotions I was experiencing. Now that I have had a chance to digest what occurred, I must say that despite the officiating (which may have been one-sided), the game was ours to win and we did not finish. Now, step back, take a deep breath, and realize WE HAVE A YOUNG (but talented) TEAM. The team will make great plays (Cat drawing the charge in the final seconds) and the team will also make plays that will create frustration (the two late turnovers). This is to be expected, but our team took the Orangmen to the wire in the Carrier Dome. The fact that this team was picked to finish last in the conference and they are now in the middle of the standings should give us hope for the future. I am very proud of what our team has accomplished thus far – Go Pack!

UNC has learned from other universities (eg Ohio St) that if you want to keep your highly acclaimed program, just continue playing, hire good coaches, and keep winning. Eventually the public will forget. Larry Montieth (NCSU) as we all know took a different approach when we were in hot water – we paid dearly for his decision

Amen Wufpacker. David Thompson was unbelievable and those who missed seeing him play really missed something special. During the 70’s, the football team was ranked as high as No. 8 and the basketball team was ranked No. 1. Those years were special, and I wonder if they will ever return. One can only hope.
