Clearly, Duke recruits 1 and done talent each year now.
So is/was Gott. One came, the other bolted at the last minute. Just imagine two changes: Henderson healthy all season, and Bam commits to play with DSJ. Maybe State has 2 or 3 more ACC wins – VT, Wake, maybe L’ville and fans are looking forward to another NCAA berth and a team on the rise with potential stars waiting to play. I’m pretty sure the tenor of these discussions would be vastly different.
Edit based on foose’s comment: Three changes, let’s throw Lacey into the mix. We might be talking Sweet 16 again.
I don’t think it came across in the commentary, but Boykin was pretty sloppy and almost pinned himself. :O

Jack wins over Ward in OT, thanks to points awarded for Ward’s stalling. Ward mouthing off to the ref. Clearly a Hole.

Erm, the announcer needs to get his facts together.
Per ESPN: “Anthony “Cat” Barber scored 19 points to lead N.C. State, though he didn’t score after banging knees with a Duke player with about 14 1/2 minutes left.”
That speaks to Cat’s importance and State’s lack of depth. He wasn’t a threat anymore.
State lost the lead, but as was pointed out in the game, the shooting “normalized”, or rather Dook started shooting the lights out. Almost 71% in the half. A combo of poor D an their increased aggressiveness. The game was still tied at 56 until Matt Jones hit a 3 at 10:57 to go. Dook scored 10 unanswered in that stretch, hole dug.
As I recall, State went into a shell and forgot what had worked offensively in the 1st half. They did get the ball low a few times, but couldn’t finish or even get a decent shot off. I find that very frustrating.
The game stats are very similar AFA percentage, boards, TOs etc. but Dook hit 2 more 3s and 6 more FTs. I think the big guys need to seriously consider shooting FTs underhanded. As Dan Patrick said the other day, you might get laughed at at first, but they’re laughing now. When you start making FTs, they’ll stop laughing.
A tale of 2 halves. State out-Dooked Dook in the 1st, with crisp passing, excellent outside-in game, nice shooting (with some “fortunate” makes) and played with lots of confidence. In the 2nd, Dook reset, and took it to the Pack while shooting 70% at one point, State reverted to old habits and then it was too late.
Cat as always played his ass off.
But I can’t take the heart ache anymore this year.
Meanwhile, the team is still fighting. SMDH.
This loss is ALL on GOTT. Poor in game coaching.
IMO the players forgot the plan. Do you think GOTT told them to start jacking 3s? I doubt it. The Pack got to the ball to the middle many times in the 2nd and the bigs did nothing with it.
guys who can’t hit 3 ft from the basket, we have no defense, we give up leads, our offense is nonexistent, and we don’t make free throws.
State did the opposite of all that in the first half.
