Really happy about the way this team has come together and turned things around toward the end of the year. For a nice change, we did what we had to do to become a solid NCAA tourney team. We’ve held onto leads, played defense, rebounded well, and Cat has really turned the corner. Great, great job.

Unfortunately, we will lose to Duke today in a pretty solid fashion.

Our games are a coin-flip. Fortunately, the Good Wolfpack side of the coin has been turning up more often than not, lately. Given that, I predict we will lose today.

My pregame prediction was categorically wrong. I’m glad about that. Two very important wins in a row, most certainly an anomalous development.

If we had the ability to consistently hit open shots, we’d be a pretty good team.

Might have to raise our chance of winning to 30%. Still evaluating…. 🙂

I honestly somewhat surprised we’re up by 1 at the half. Good sign, IMO.

Our MO is pass around the perimeter and fire it up.

I give us about a 20% chance of winning this game. I hate feeling that way. I really do. But this is just how we roll.

Based on past performance, we lose today and are then forced to win a game or two in the ACC tourney, which we will do.

Instead of getting into the NCAA tourney comfortably, we’ll make it unnecessarily difficult on ourselves. Maybe somehow, someway, this time will be different, but I’m not counting on it.

    Kahn,

If I understand your comments you are apologizing for the win? I guess I don’t see it that way. Syracuse went down there in early February and got destroyed. The big picture is that the Pack have won 4 out of the last five. Three of those on the road. Two against the top 15 in the country. Think about that. This team was not projected to make the NCAA. I am not saying I am happy to be a just above average program either but State has not experienced this level of success since the V days.

The tournament will be short for 34 teams. Can’t have any success to build on if you don’t get in.

Nah, a win is a win and that is good in and of itself. I expected (and expect) us to make the NCAA. We have enough talent to do it. It seems like there’s this shock factor that we’re in the conversation for it, which kind of bewilders me. That said, the Clemson win is just another example of our inconsistency. We have the ability to play really well, but we all too often have these Clemson-type games. If they hadn’t out-Wolfpacked us, we would not have won. And you can’t blame it on a young team. I mean, you can, but what was the reason last year? And the year before? And next year? It’s frustrating knowing that we have the ability to legitimately compete with almost anyone and also lose to almost anyone. That never seems to change no matter what personnel suits up.

We pretty much won because Clemson went on a nearly 15 minute scoring drought in the second half. They made a bunch of dumb mistakes and dumb decisions. Had they played with any competence, we would not have won that game. It amazes me how much we dribble dribble dribble dribble, pass around the perimeter, dribble dribble dribble dribble, pass around the perimeter, dribble dribble dribble dribble step-back jumper. Every now and then, somebody will drive to the bucket with a slight bit of vision and pass to an open player after drawing the defense. And, we have no big men that can do anything in the post when they’re not wide open.

Clemson was not very good. Our D did show up and least, and that certainly had something to do with Clemson’s poor performance. But we had better figure out how to run some sort of an effective offense, or it’s going to be a short run in any tournaments we play in. It is just ugly watching us try to score.

Have a nice cool refreshing glass of ncstateclassic. So typical. This is why you can’t believe in NC State basketball. Unfortunately, we’ll now probably lose at least one of our next two games.

This is exactly the kind of game #stateclassic loses. If this team has really turned the corner and has really come together and found an identity, then #newstate walks out with a win, continued momentum heading to Clemson, and a more relaxed Selection Sunday. We’ll see.

Great game by the Wolfpack! A combination of offense and defense. Simply stunning.

I draw the same conclusion about KW. If he’s scoring more, it *seems* the other main guys are not. That said, I like his energy and his work and am happy that he contributes regularly.

That said, this team needs work in most areas in order to even sniff being a top 25 team.

A huge and glaring issue is the ubiquitous lack of composure at critical times, which routinely costs us close games, and also the complete lack of ability to keep the hammer down, the foot on the throat, the pedal to the metal, the heel to the steel, or whatever other analogy you want to toss out there. Not sure how you measure those things statistically, but they are a problem and directly put us in a position to lose…frequently.

“If the flagrant foul had been correctly called, the Wolfpack would have gotten 4 free throws in addition to possession of the ball.”

“…which would have promptly been followed by miss, miss, hit, miss, baseline travel, WF ball.”

What we don’t know about playing good basketball is a lot.

Nice shot though. I am fully back to not caring mode. I actually startled myself when I unconciously threw my hands in the air and let out a cheer at the end there.

We are not very good at basketball.

We GOTT out coached…once again. We GOTT our butts kicked in another game we could have and should have won. We ain’t GOTT no chance of bringing home an ACC or NCAA title. We GOTT at least 3 more years of this. Yay!

I really hope by this point that nobody is surprised by this. When is the last close game where we actually got a shot off at the end? Anybody know?

It’s a real shame that I even have to ask that question.

Gottfried is at best a mediocre coach and one who will likely never bring our program to a championship caliber one.

But whatever. It appears to be our eternal fate.
