We’ve pretty much covered all the pre-game bases as to what tonight’s game holds…
So let’s look at the benches…It’s THE Tournament…
Some Coaches are Tournament Coaches…. some others not so much…
To win tonight… we GOTT to have a good sharp game called from the bench.
That’s means… quick on the bench decisions… and no craziness…
And please, let’s not get distracted by the Zebras…In many respects, it is a “chess game” and one bad move from either bench could absolutely mean the difference between playing on Saturday and heading over to Daytona or the golf course and working on your tan…
Our kids have worked too hard… and should expect no less.

65 – CUZ = everybody else
everybody else = any 2 guys with 10 -12 – 14 and any other four guys with 4 – 6 – 8It’s one of those ‘damned if you do and damned if you don’t’ kind of things…
And only the top ten teams… got the horses to try to do this… the way the rest of our kids have played for the last month…
Just ask the Basketsaurus Norte — Boeheim… he knows and he didn’t flunk math…
The Team that has beat NCSTATE more than any other team this season has been NCSTATE…

And from what’s been discussed … it seems clear that the big difference in SLU first 25 games and the last five is their center’s Loe’s disappearance from under the basket and from the stat sheet…
If there’s one guy on their Team who really wants a good game tonight… he’s that guy…
Now the SLU Coach knows this better than we do… and he’s gonna give his Big Guy (who’s a Senior) every opportunity to do just that…That’s why we need to go right at Loe early and often and make sure he gets the message… “Tonight ain’t going to be your night”…
After that …. then take care of the rest of the SLU bunch.

The “Stop CUZ” game plan is so (pick any ‘negative’ word you like )… because it takes so much to do it… To stop the PACK… just let CUZ get his twenty and stop everybody else. The problem is that it could be any of six or seven guys… and by the time the other Coach/Team figures out who to stop and gets them stopped…. there’s only eight minutes left in the game…
At that point… it’s anybody’s ballgame… unless they got a nice run somewhere or we went four minutes without a basket or the Zebras have blown forty whistles…
So watch for this… Coaches will be quick on the Timeouts from the bench… Cardinal Tournament Rule #1… do not let the other team score three baskets in a row…
… and “Nine” is the magic number… with a nine point lead… now you can do some things you couldn’t do in a real close game like press, go Zone for a couple of possessions, or throw the Alley Opp pass for the dunk, and make your opponent think and put them further back on their heels…

Don’t worry about CUZ’s fouling too much… he’s shown he can play with fouls except when the zebras say no…
Let’s put that another way… if CUZ ain’t got a couple of reaching fouls to go with his 3-4 steals and loose 50/50 balls he ain’t playing hard enough… and there’s a bigger problem elsewhere…

Over the years… I learned not to worry about all the things I GOTT credit for… even though I had nothing to do with them…
I made some little passing comment about two pages back that only five people at SFN might understand …
“that if we had Mo Rivers on the floor… he (Mo) would already know the name of girlfriend”
… who had caused the Billikens to become ‘distracted’ at the end of the season and lose 4 out of their last five or whatever…It was a reference to Mo’s unique talent of discussing all kinds of random stuff with his opponent while running the court… a talent unequaled before or since by anyone playing in Red & White.
How THAT gets convoluted into ‘switchblades’ and KillBillCat…. I don’t know….

I hate playing games like those down at South Beach…
and I hate hearing sneakers squeak…Some nights the Team gets the crowd fired up and some nights the Crowd gets the Team fired up…
There’s plenty of Wolfpackers down in sunny FLA and I hope a good number of them can find that gym in Orlando… if so, they know what to do.

if we could wave the magic wand… we would get a third of our points from set plays… a third from putbacks, garbage and 50/50 balls AND a third on fastbreaks (counting free throws made in whatever category the play was when the foul was committed.)…

If so… it won’t be in SLU’s favor…
Since Feb 5th….Billikens have averaged 64 points a game in the last nine regulation games while going 5-4…
That’s scoring at the rate of 1.6 pts per minute… over our last 11 games .. we’ve averaged 70 pts a game or 1.75 pts a minute….Worst that could happen at the end of five minutes is SLU 8 Pack 0… and that is a long way from deciding the outcome of the game…
Most likely scenario is both teams will still be getting settled in and feeling each other out…
SLU 6 — PACK 8 at the end of five…————–
Tyler + ANTHONY as mentioned above could be very strong tonight… if ANTHONY is close to 100%…
————–You can’t “kill” Bill’s Cat…
’cause this is my Cat…… and he’s GOTT the right “attitude” to play defense for the Red & White… in fact… Coach DD called the other day looking for another DB…
