ParticipantBOTB,
Are you recommending the establishment of a “Steve” INDEX. Need to know what other “Steve’s” will be used and what the sampling and weighting factors are…..
Wonder, Allen, Speilberg, Spurrier….THEN we can validate the Index and Correlate it with the W/L and other determinants….
You get to pick any or all and also set up the ratios or the formulas….

ParticipantNot trying to open up the TICKET issue….but I did NOTE that there are still a LOT of FSU ads on Craigslist. The ones posted today are at, very near, or above FACE. PP are the hot item. I wish I could have bought a BUNCH of them.
Yes, we do tend to remember the accomplishments of some of our heroes of the past…..
I will also “fess” up and reveal my sources….
http://gopack.com/news/2015/11/6/media-guide.aspx
The Media Guide USED to be a PDF, so you could download it and search it. I have some old ones. The “FREE” is not really FREE, if you try to download a copy, I did not figure out HOW.
BUT, you can go Full Screen and then do a Screen Dump and paste it into Word and make the page a large one and blow it up and move it about.
It is interesting….a BUNCH of stuff in there.
I think that Harrick is the answer to the Trivia question about Which FORMER OPPONENT’s THEN coach has attended the MOST NCSU Games, and NOT in the capacity as an Opposing Coach….BUT, you never know….Bidenbach MAY actually have attended MORE (or will) than Harrick…

ParticipantPackerInRussia,
Sort of depends on how you DEFINE the Announcers. Also you have to have the Audio of EACH Game and the Media. I don’t hear the PbP from the radio for home games as I am in the stands. I watch the away if on TV. I listen to the away if NOT on TV on the local station. IF I am traveling and the game is NOT on TV and there is NO local station carrying it….then I usually get it on Sirus/XM. That will be the HOME Brewed PbP. IF, in the unlikely event, I travel and it is a HOME game is not on the local TV or Cable, then I will have Tony and Gary on XM….if I can set up an antenna on the Motel Balcony (which I have done)…usually in motor home, but sometimes due to trees…it is blocked out…..finally, I try to stream if all else fails.
OK….I will stop being a Wise Apple…I think (Hopefully) that Gottfried’s Stubble or beard will be brought up to honor Chris Combs and also get donations to ALS.
DJS will have to really shine and once he does….the One and OUT talk will dominate.
Y7 – That will be a topic (Excuse?) for any losses during the first 9. Afterwards, if we do NOT win, it will be the reason as he was not allowed to “get into and mix (chemistry) with the GAME FLOW”. NOW, if we have a lousy PRE Y7 and then explode, he will take a LOT of the spotlight from DSJ.
WILD ASS PREDICTION OF THE YEAR….ABU starts to get HIT and is taking shots. He will appear in a White Sport Coat, with a RED Carnation and some type of “Head Apparel”. He will say that he is a target. ESPN will pick up this story and run with it and then conclude that, due to his religious beliefs, he is being harassed by certain anti-Muslim players, teams, fans, etc. It will dominate the “talk Sports shows” and eventually he will be granted an audience with Swofford. Afterwards, players will be suspended if they even enter a 0.75 Meter “Centre” which he will be granted. He will score more points and get more rebounds than any other player in the country….
I COULD have written that about Y7 or DSJ or maybe any of our players….if I changed the events and such. My point…today’s Sports Commentary is more about Political Issues (especially on ESPN) than it is about “How they play the game”. Off Court and Political Drama (Correctness and INCorrectness) SUPPOSEDLY drives Ratings….and the Ratings have SUFFERED….in that there are WAY too many outlets for you (look at my list). SO, you gotta go over the TOP and grab your “Ratings Share”. One totally innocent action on the field (court) or maybe off court can morph into the STORY du JOUR and Social Media will either grant Sainthood or Vilify to levels never seen before.
With almost 95 Million folks NOT ACTIVELY SEEKING Employment today and receiving assistance, you gotta have SOMETHING to entertain them….
Your post is spot on….there will be “talking points”. There already ARE. The Radio Announcers have their own Note Cards. The Talking Heads on TV have ear pieces and the PRODUCERS feed them info. There is a covey of young and underpaid (if paid at all) interns constantly fact checking and looking at social media trends and they will take off on a tangent….if it means keeping the audience watching. SAME for the constant ESPN “opinions” show that dominate the afternoon.
I do NOT listen to them….but I see them on the TV’s when I work out in the afternoons at my Wellness Center. Take a controversial position….exploit it…do your damage….get a raise…or a bonus.
It all started with Roone Arledge…when he had Don Meredith dump water on Howard Cosell. Howard was NEVER the same after that….

YOU TELL ME….it was your question and the criteria was a bit “loosey goosey”. My data is accurate (I swear by my source)….unlike all the Under, Even, Over, Over X 2, Over X 3 and Over X 4 MSM Political Polls that are the current rage….

ParticipantLate thoughts….just catching up. Went to game. Here is my summary.
Abu took a hit. He was in obvious pain. I wondered if he took an errant or unintended crotch shot. The trainer did what looked like a concussion review and then started on the upper body and worked the arms, forearms and finally the shoulders. Mostly upper body…not the old “do a situp and pull on your toes for a crotch shot”. He came back. That is why BJ (somewhat bulging and not nearly as agile or quick as before) was in the game.
We looked like fresh feces for about 3 – 5 minutes. Got down 3 – 14 and GOTT called a TO. That helped. We finally found our rhythm. Maverick NEVER got his shooting eye. BUT, the lad was aggressive on D tonight and was rebounding well. He was good at the charity stripe….but did miss a couple. GOTT did not load the line when he was shooting.
We figured out HOW to play about midway into the first half. We ran a “matchup zone”. Not an expert, but it worked. I noticed the position of the guys in the key, but then there were others that looked like they were in a Man to Man. That was difficult for Lynn (Google it….it is NOT Campbell College). We also started a Zone Press in the second half and that was the key.
Dennis is the REAL deal. Yurt had some moments….and then….Lets just say that he did NOT look a “national team” player. NOW, maybe that is just nerves or whatever. Dennis, OTOH, looked at ease and was a major force. He did NOT play like a kid that missed his Sr. year, in HS. He looked like a seasoned college PG. Abu started out as a ball of fire and got back in the game with no seemingly adverse issues from his “painful” experience. He was a monster on the boards.
About mid H2, Yurt seemed to get going, but he also was out of position and did not dominate like someone his size should be able to do in the ACC. He is, IMHO, a WIP. Will he turn into a lottery pick? I don’t know….and we will NOT find out until mid December. It will be tough to get him integrated into the line-up….think about how tough it was to get Whit back in…
Speaking of 1983, Trivia for you. WHICH 1983 NCAA Coach that SHOULD have eliminated the WP in the opening round of NCAA play was “in the house” tonight. YEP….Jimmy Harrick. He was with the coaches and participated (most of the time) in the TO and Huddles. The gentlemen is 78 and has some mobility issues. Since I am only 7 years younger, I shudder to think that this might be my fate. I quit slalom water skiing about 2 years ago….so maybe THAT will not be my fate. He carried on conversations and studied the stats. Talk about a ghost from the past. Wonder if THAT will exorcise Jimmy V’s EVIL ghost from the Building?
Folks are complaining on other sites about us letting Lynn score 66. Gott cleared the bench early. We had only TWO guys that did not play. Gott’s son, Cameron, and another player. Both were not dressed out. Injuries or punishment? Don’t know. However, Cameron was shagging balls. As they headed to the locker room before the game started, he casually picked up a loose ball from the bench area and nailed a pretty 3 pointer. I guess the Apple does NOT fall far….
One thing will be evident, we have MORE talent (at least AFTER the firs few minutes of Jitters) than we have available PT.
Coach Schroyer was very active and dominant during the game. He was vocal and also calling the D. He was also the one that was actually “dominating” the huddle….not always, but Gott was seated and Coach Heath was “talking” and directing them. I was NOT impressed with our two new hires. BUT, we ran some D that was so NOT TYPICAL….THAT was great to see.
We had a LOT of communication while on D on the floor. We also had a lot “Natural Teamwork” or maybe Ad Libbing on Offense. There was one play that I swear had 6 assists. They seemed “IN SYNC” and were ready for the unplanned passes that “popped up”. It has been a LONG time since I saw a State team that could react and make it look like an art form. Remember, I still watch the 1983 team and Lowe and Whit were always in sync…
NOW….as the Investment Warning goes….Past (one EXH Game….).does NOT a predictor of future performance make…. BUT, even with the warts, we looked pretty good tonight…..and they played like a team….

ParticipantWolfPack92Owen,
Don’t really argue with your opinion. I would remind you that the Federal Courts ruled on Title IX and the NCAA has adopted (or maybe wrote) the regulations. You ought to look at the 50 page filing that each university/institution must FILE with the NCAA to show the amount of $$’s spent on each sport and the number of coaches and the revenue from the revenue sports and more info that a Trump Accountant could generate.SO, regardless of the Director’s Cup, the rules are the same. You can’t just be a FB and BB and baseball and maybe Women’s BB entity and compete against other NCAA teams that comply.
Obviously, we disagree on AD Yow’s Management and her Expertise. I think she made a mistake in hiring. I have hired a lot of people over the years and never had a 100% record. I was on the GOTT hayride for a while….then the ugliness that supposedly was “ONE TIME” and all is well now and never will happen again cropped up. THAT actually causes me a little more heartburn than FB.
I did not think (nor want….as I was a true believer in Lowe) that she would pull the pin on him….but she did. Maybe she will do the number on him. BUT, will the rank and file be happy with that?
Woodson is NOT going to call her in and pull the pin on her and then hire someone and let him (her) find a new coach. So, it is what it is….and that is not going to change.
Doeren has pulled the trigger on the OC. He should have done the DC. BUT, that is his ONLY card left. Anyone can find AD Yow and Randy Woodson’s email addresses and write them with opinions and suggestions. They will respond….usually quickly.

“I am not saying you are wrong here, but how in the hell can an ACC/NCAA coach have a non compete clause in their contract?”Should have added….Non-Compete ACC School Clause. Thank Les Fowler (OK, I did NOT even think that….much less type it). I did briefly in an email ask AD Yow if it were true and she said yes….sometimes you are dealt a good hand if if you play it well, you win big (or something to that effect). So, she confirmed it. Here is the references with the details.

I am a 2 LTR common man. I know many like me. They are of a common chant. Shoot up here amongst us, one of us gotta have some relief. There is no solution that I see that doesn’t involve increased ticket prices. Read all the comments in the other threads.
Fire ADYow. Pay her severance. Fire Coach Doeren. Hire a New Ad and let them hire a new coach. Problematico!
Exactly WHERE is the $$ coming from for a more expensive AD & HC? The WPC can’t “Donate” for that. So you want the big $$ donors that funded the various FB upgrades to antee up? If Murphy was still privately held, then your morning bacon would go up. UNC & ECU & non FB fans would see an increase.
There ain’t no free lunch. What do you suggest? If you try to run it as a business, you cannot cut excess costs for non revenue sports. NCAA & Federal courts control that. CF is usually a sellout or close….not like some schools with 50% attendance. Make students pay full price for their tickets?
I am captive. I don’t see a magic bullet….but maybe you or others do.

ParticipantDoeren’s guaranteed or base is $840K or $70K per month.
His contact expires on 12/31/2019. Right, wrong or indifferent…we pay him that.
AD Yow successfully saved $1,000,000 when she cut TOB. He was due $600K for 2 years. He had a non-compete clause. He settled for a single $200K payment to take a UVA job. These are facts from reading Doeren’s contact and several news articles about TOB’S departure.
Doeren’s contact also provides a supplemental amount of $1,360,000 or $113,333 per month. That stops when he is no longer the HC.
Doeren’s package is $2.2 Million. Fedora makes about 50% MORE. Doeren’s contact has a bunch of incentives. So does Fedora. Fedora gets about $1.3 Million of his from shoes, RAM’s Club & Radio/TV. WPC does not pay Doeren a dime. Shoes/apparel & Radio/TV is paid to AD. Both are big time $$.
Which side of the line is so Stellar that you would quickly promote that individual? Kitchins (sp?) is only other name that is floating to top. Remember how Darth Vader chose his new General or field commanders? Also remember how he also relieved them when they failed? Is that what the rank and file Wolf Pack fan wants?
Read the Clean Sheet thread. Pure Economics. Add $3 per ticket for 3 years to cut Doeren.
Add $4 more to get salary to UNC levels. But that doesn’t get high paid coordinators. Kick up concessions by 15% and/or maybe $1 per ticket for staff pay increases.Adventuroo

https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=3654NOW….I also want to throw out his little factoid, as it was probably MISSED, and it is telling to me….
When AD Yow pulled the pin on TOB, we had a 2 year “buyout”. His base was $600K, so we owed him $1.2KK…OUCH. BUT, TOB wanted to work for UVA. There was (thanks to Lee Fowler….did I ACTUALLY TYPE THAT?) a “Non-Compete Clause”. I guess when he approached US about Chuck’s job, our attorneys smelled the proverbial “he may bolt again”. SO, they added it. AD Yow did NOT waive it. She and TOB (their lawyers probably) settled on a $200K payment. So we saved $1,000,000 when TOB left. That was FOUND money.
In addition, when AD Yow offered Doeren the job, he had a (memory) $750K or so “Buyout”. OK, we gave him a signing bonus of that amount. We (nor any OTHER university) can NOT pay the “I left you” penalty. THAT is a contractural obligation between the Employee and his Employer. NOW, if you do some googling and some late night (wonderful insomnia cure) reading, you will find that MOST (don’t ask for a %, but MOST of the ones I found) of the NEW contracts have a “Net Sum of Zero” tax adjustment. That means that the Coach will receive a “grossed up” amount. So, if he owes $500K and the taxes on that will only net him $350K, then they Gross it up. They keep playing with the numbers until he NETS $500K, AFTER Federal and (if applicable) State Taxes. In coach Doeren’s case, he would have paid somewhere in the 43% (memory) range. So, he had to fork over $325K OUT OF HIS OWN POCKET. NOTE to the astute young person that says…”that buyout payment is a Business Deduction….” Nice try, but even Warren Buffett’s or Donald Trump’s or the Clinton’s accountants can NOT pull that off. INCOME is INCOME…and DD paid the taxes on his Signing Bonus….which he immediately signed over to NIU.BUT, AD Yow did add in a LOT of incentives….and they “blosssomed” in the 2015 extension. MOST of the Competitive Ones never kicked in (wonder WHY?). Don’t know about the Academic ones. Gott’s Contract is also loaded, but it is really simple compared to Doeren’s. You need a computer program with a flow/decision chart to see if he gets a few extra sheckles…..
Therefore, we may complain and question certain decisions, but AD Yow did a pretty good job of “settling” with TOB and saved us One Million. She also did not spend all the butter and egg money on Doeren. BUT, he is paid about 2/3 of what Coach Fedora makes. There is all sorts of info on athletic programs and other data on most college programs. You can also find the NCAA filings for each major college….that is a 50 page form (Yawn)….but if you read it and study it, it tells you a LOT….ZZZZZZZZZZ

ParticipantBassPacker,
OK, your call. Now I need to ask a question….and perhaps also fill in details. Did you read my analysis on the Clean Sheet forum?
The AD Budget is strictly that. The Wolf Pack Club (WPC) does NOT make out any checks to the NCSU AD. The WPC dues and special campaigns and such, if I am correct, are spent BY the WPC. The WPC sells the tickets…I assume that there is an “admin” fee for such, but the WPC does NOT supplement or pay any of the coaches or is a “line item” on the AD Budget. I am merely stating what I believe is correct….you can check it out. The Rams Club, as do the majority of the OTHER Power 5 Conferences’ Booster Clubs “supplement” the coaches’s salaries. I ASSUME that the LTR $$ go to the WPC and NOT to the AD…but that is something that I do NOT know for a fact….
The AD now has the marketing rights and also the TV/Radio rights to all WP events. Coach Williams and Fedora get income from three streams, in addition to the UNC AD. Rams Club $$; Shoe/Apparel $$; Radio/TV Show $$’s. That is hard to dig out, but it is out there if you read and dig enough. We pay Coaches what they get….they can do TV spots, open restaurants, conduct camps or wash cars….and THAT is theirs….but the Biggies are part and parcel of the AD Budget.
NOW, having said that….What would you propose as a method of “funding” coach Doeren’s departure? What would you propose as a method of funding for a salary increase for a new coach? We are currently about 2/3 rds of what UNC is paying (in total) for Coach Fedora.
Also bear in mind that the courts and the NCAA have formulas for “what you can spend and where” on non-revenue sports, specifically Title IX. Also bear in mind that our legislature ruled, many years ago, that it is “illegal” or Politically INCORRECT to charge a Florida 1st. Round NFL Draft Pick the SAME tuition as a scholarship Tennis (or fill in the blank) Student Athlete. BUT, they did it for all the Consolidated University….so, when the WPC pays for a scholarship, if we give it to an out of state student, it costs about 40% (don’t take that as Gospel) MORE.
NOW, if we “classified” the Student Athletes as “Employees of the University”, then maybe they could declare themselves as “Legal Residents of NC”. That is slightly off topic, but this whole issue is complex…and you DO have to follow the money.
We currently do sell out MOST of Carter Finely. NOW, if you want to NOT allow the students to attend (take away THEIR tickets), then you could SELL THEM….that would add INCOME….BUT, there are “protocols and guidelines” for such….
SO, I am at a loss. How do you cut costs in the AD without a Federal Judge or the NCAA declaring it “illegal, immoral and unethical”?
Thanks for taking time to respond and also for any future thoughts….I’m fresh out….so I took the simple way.
BTW, if our LTR’s were “refunded” for lack of value….then there would be a RUN on them…probably….and THEN the WPC’s Revenue would shrink and we would have LESS $$ for capital programs and scholarships.

ParticipantBTOB, et. al.,
I guess living in Raleigh, the “effort” that goes into attending WPC and WP functions is not a bad as driving in from out of town. If we did, then I would pop (and that would cost me BIG TIME….think almost 6 figures) for a MH Pass.
As to the University….I gave up on the Alumni Association circa 1990. They were the Administrators of the Caldwell Scholarships. My son was the “first out” in 1988 or so. His roomie, since they placed the Caldwell Applicants in the same dorm or floor, was one. That kid stayed a Caldwell scholar and collected all the $$’s for about 2 years. His GPA was lower than mine (OK…I did go LOWER one semester when I had a 0.33…that is NO TYPO). BUT, I partied 10X more than the norm in 1999.
I never forgave the University for how they treated Jimmy V. I did keep up my WPC membership. When we got closer in 1978 to Raleigh, I started going to FB games and took my kids. Eventually, I bought Season tickets. I upped that for my BIL and his wife to 4. I had to go to the LTR (and they did as well) to keep them. SO, that is FB.
My wife loves BB. We had Seasons for a while, but when I started to travel, it was NOT economically viable. When I retired, I bought HER two LTR’s….which morphed into the Champions Club….and that multiplied into 4.
In the interim, my BIL’s son and wife (stellar CHEM ENG Grads) bought two LTR’s and two additional Season….then the Season were up for grabs and he converted to LTR for his Brother or Friends or Family or perhaps, little ones….so we have 8 LTR’s in FB in our Block.
Other than my WPC dues and some “targeted” gifts for some V stuff and Reynolds, most of my contributions go to charities and church…and V gets a big percentage. Folks like RJ Sweezy (whom I know as I played FB with his dad) and Philip Rivers have Foundations….so I give to them. I also made a nice donation to Chris Combs’ Foundation (or whatever).
We enjoy the entertainment (and endure the frustrations). We go to some of the other functions as well and have a circle of quasi-friends that we see “socially” there.
There are a LOT of folks that cut off NCSU and that is their call. I have my reasons….and that is my call.
The focus of this was, I thought, a real problem question….but it morphed. Yes, the joke took legs.
Maybe it was comic relief. But, when the sun sets tonight and I am putting up my kayak, the reality will be that we have an UGLY chance of being 4 and 8 this year….and 6 and 6 is looking slimmer every day. THAT, is totally unacceptable.
We could have hired a LOT of role models for the team to counsel them. We certain have a great, from a character and personality standpoint, one in Coach Doeren. The “Boy Scout” or the “Admiral” or as AD Yow called him, Coach O’Brien was also one. I will NOT talk about our OTHER major $$ revenue sport…
Bottom line, he is not living up to even 50% of our expectations. One good year, out of four, would be grounds for change if we were a company.
AD Yow tries to run the AD as a business…and it is time that some performance reviews are done.
My point, pure and simple, was to see if our business model would support that. And also, using the brain trust here, check my logic.
Lest ye think that someone that got a A in ROTC and a D in PE be somewhat “ill equipped” to do business planning, I would add that AFTER I got married and quit “going out to hunt…”, I was mid Dean’s List for my last two years. And I did OK in the business world….professionally and from a personal satisfaction standpoint….
What will happen, I dare not speculate….but no one has answered by question….
Would a WP Fan pay $3 MORE for each ticket for 3 years to “remove” Coach Doeren?
Would a WP Fan pay and ADDITIONAL $4 MORE for each ticket to “up the ante” so that we paid the NEW coach 50% MORE than Doeren and that was “in the range” of what “The Hat” collects down the road?
Maybe one of the Keymasters can check my numbers. Maybe THAT needs to be the NEW poll….?
Gotta take the wife and find a lake and get rid of some frustrations with a paddle…

ParticipantMr. P,
I thought you were swallowed up by the flood waters of Matthew….glad you are alive and well as as cantankerous as ever.Yurtseven’s “approval” was really a relief. The subterfuge and inuendo surrounding him (based on such past practices) and his “team” was pretty ugly….or what I read (and all of that was TRUE….of course….it was on the ‘Net).
So, the NCAA did “think” that someone (Yurtseven or family members) did receive more than just a little $$ or Perks. Otherwise, why would the NCAA require a “Contribution” to a charity? Secondly, the “30%” or 9 game suspension was probably punitive for alleged “being a Pro”.
That means we get Yurtseven for the conference run. I am OK with that….and it was probably about as good as we could expect, given the comments and other “supposed” issues could well have ruled him totally INELLIGIBLE….
BUT, that is one man’s opinion. NOW, if Yurtseven had appeared before the NCAA in a Pink jacket, green hat (with pink feather) and a shirt whose colors and design blurts….”LOOK AT ME…..LISTEN TO ME”, then maybe he would have been allowed to play earlier. You NEVER know….

ParticipantOK,
So, today, I did some serious (well not really) analyzing of the alternative plan. I picked up some key points….If you like your FB team and Coach, you can KEEP your FB team and Coach.
We have to FUND the plan to know what is IN the plan….
We need a Booster Club that actually “boosts” our athletic program and provides direct and hidden benefits so that we can prosper.
If we party like it is 1999, then why have a ticket….we paid our $$’s at the gate.
There were other nuances that I probably missed……..but it was amusing….
Adventuroo
ParticipantAsked this question on the “Clean Sheet” forum.
OK, Would YOU, as a State Fan, be willing to pay $3 per ticket for the next 3 years to buy out Coach Doeren. I think I would.
NOW, more importantly, is the logic correct? That is what I really want to know as well. There is a long post (remember, we have them with stats and charts on the Home Page Posts) on the Clean Sheet Forum that lists my logic and assumptions and math.
Next up, regardless of WHO make the call (or the hire) of Coach Doeren’s (hypothetically) replacement…..WOULD YOU, as a State Fan, pay an ADDITIONAL $4 per ticket to provide a 50% INCREASE in the total Head Coach’s package. Coach D gets around $2.2 MM in CASH. The HAT is well over $3…probably closer to $3.5 MM….and has, virtually the same PERKS. SO, those to me are the real questions.
Again, how did I come up with that? Is it correct? It seems like simple math and logic to me….and that spooks ME. After Halloween, I might just ask some folks that are in the know and make decisions….
Remember, you PURCHASE your tickets FROM the WPC. However, they are just a “marketing” function. The Athletic Department sets the prices. In addition, the WPC does NOT contribute or give ONE FARTHING to any coach or staff. All the WPC donations go to Capital (Facility) Drives and Scholarships. The Rams Club, and countless OTHER booster organizations provide FUNDING as a Supplement for Coaches. WE, the WPN, stopped that in 1990 when Jimmy V was convicted of “High Crimes and Treason” by the N&O. The NCSU BOT (aided and abetted by the UNC BOG) and the Faculty Senate ammended the WPC Charter and ELIMINATED all “monies” going directly to Coaches (and persumably….key STAFF).
Bottom line…..if a change is made….Ticket prices will increase as we are at or barely above “Break Even”. However, Break Even is NOT the norm…many of the big time athletic programs are “IN THE RED” and that is why TV dominates their decisions. If what I read and dug up is correct, then AD Yow should be commended for that side of the business….

ParticipantWell, I was in a totally serious mode yesterday…and today as well. It is nice to fantasize about what might happen….and that is what we often do about the upcoming game.
Reality finally, for me, set in. I equate my “ah ha” moment to a work situation where the executive were looking at every facility with an “evil” eye. I had done “close vs. continue” work-ups on most of them before and had good notes. I reran, using current data, all of them. It was apparent to me that unless I “Fudged” (today’s word would be RIGGED) the data for the plant where I spent a long period of time, it was ONE of the “low hanging fruits”. I probably could have changed a few variables in some of the formulas and made it marginal. BUT, in truth, its time had come. That was a very low point as I was then responsible for building its replacement in Mexico as well as purchasing new processing equipment for that factory and installing it and starting it up. The Plant Manager and I were not “drinking buddies”, but I closed the door and laid out the facts and told him my dilemma. Both of us then checked and rechecked the data and the assumptions. Even with a little bit of favoritism, it was obvious what had to be done and he signed on. We had BOTH fought the good fight…and tried our best to salvage the plant….but it was, in the end, futile. We also had a fiduciary responsibility as middle to upper corporate directors to provide the best return on stockholder’s investments. THAT was sobering….but I did drink a little after that to drown my dismay.
That is about where I am with NCSU. As much as I respect DD and his ethics and character, he is NOT living up to “his” side of the bargain. I do think he is trying, but if seems that he is in over his head….and if we expect to be competitive in the ACC, which is improving, then a change is needed. EVEN IF he runs the table, it will, in my opinion, but just DUMB LUCK. IF I thought he had a well thought out program and this was the beginning of a consistent improvement, then I would not be as critical.
SO, it is what it is. If we want to improve, then AD Yow has got to make the call. I do NOT envy her. I think that the math and logic is correct.
SO…to ALL SFN and State Fans….do you want to spend $50 per ticket (total for season) MORE for the next 3 years to say goodbye to Coach Doeren? IF so, then she needs to know that. I would be hesitant to cut him loose if I were she. IF she does it, then she has potentially “saddled” her successor with a coach NOT of his (her, it?) choosing….as that coach will be with us for two more years AFTER the new AD signs on. Sort of like hiring Jimbo and Bowden NOT wanting to “leave the building”. She tried that at Maryland and the results were disasterous. SO, I don’t know if she has the drive and mental energy to do it.
Therein likes the problem….
HOWEVER, I also want some serious looking at the scenario. I want it “debugged” by others….not only the math, but the logic….

ParticipantBOTB….glad you are feeling frisky. Assumed you were engrossed in the WS, since the Cubbies were trying to avoid a home loss that cost them the title…Send your suggestions to AD Yow. Her email address is listed on the NCSU Campus Email Directory. Google it. She usually responds with in a few hours, no matter the subject.
I did NOT call for her removal. I merely put together a business model to see exactly the “magnitude” of replacing Coach Doeren. I have heard the “we can NOT afford the $2,520,00 buyout.
Based on the serious comments here about such, I wondered how many folks would sign on for a $7 ticket price increase…which presumably, would be halved in 2020.
I did not want to muddy the water with any “rebates” that NCSU would get should Coach Doeren decide to reenter the coaching profession. He does not seem to have that “air” of a broadcaster, but you never know. Pair him up with a Don Meredith OR Cosell type…and you never know.
I will put your suggestion on the list of things to add to my spreadsheet when I have a few minutes or find my missing “RoundToIt”

ParticipantI started to post a new thread, but this one seems to fit what I wanted to post….so here goes….this will be (sigh…) LONG….but it, to me, make what we face a little more simplistic.
OK…quick summary. Factoids….based on memory and research and also documentation.
The WPC does NOT provide ANY compensation to Coach directly or indirectly. Their charter was “changed” during the Valvano Witch Hunt by edict….from the BOT, BOG, Faculty Senate, Dr. Monteith and Joe, the guy who swept the floors in Reynolds. The WPC provides funds for Capital Improvements (new and remodeling or upgrading) and Student Athletic Scholarships. The Rams Club provides funding for (fact) Larry Fedora and Roy Williams. The data published from time to time indicate this is at least 25% or greater.
Therefore, we can NOT solicit “Donations” for a contract buyout of Coach Doeren without modifying the stated purpose of the WPC. Whether, a private funding drive could be done with absolutely NO allegiance to the WPC, I KNOW NOT. SO, that option seems like a closed door.
The NCSU Athletic Department is one of the few (last time I could find data) in the country that actually operates at break even or a small profit. Therefore, we have financial integrity and will not pursue “options” that would cause us to operate in the RED (pun!) or at a loss. Therefore, a buyout of Coach Doeren would require additional Revenue. In addition, it is unrealistic to expect a replacement coach to work at Coach Doeren’s present salary. As best I can divine from the various sources, Coach Fedora probably makes 50% MORE than Coach Doeren. NOW, UNC is NOT a benchmark….they have had their issues….but they have, statistically, a better record for Coach Fedora than we do with Coach Doeren. You can pick any school of the same size in the ACC or others and then look up their info an decide “WHO” you want to emulate. SO, The Hat was my choice….
I used to do a LOT of Make vs. Buy and Move vs. Operate and similar scenarios. At church this morning and at my GS’s soccer game this afternoon, Coach Doeren and “what to do and how to pay for it” was a major topic of conversation. I then started to contemplate it and also some other little factoids.
WE, the FANS, are going to have to BITE THE BULLET and FUND any coaching change. NOW, here is where the logic finally hit me…but maybe I am all wrong. MOST of us are “indentured purchasers”. By that I mean the we have LTR’s and have made substantial payments to our pledges. IF we do NOT continue to pay off the pledges or IF we do not purchase our annual Season Tickets, we forfeit ALL of our pledge $$’s. SO, we are captive…and if the product (program’s win/loss) is NOT acceptable, there is really NO RECOURSE. Remember, many of the OTHER ACC schools and the OTHER big 5 Conferences have booster clubs that CONTRIBUTE to the Coach’s compensation….and THEY can make decisions and have a voice in the process….NOT US… Say Thanks to all the cowtowing that went on during the Jimmy V character assassination.
SO, it hit me….work up a business model and see what the cost would actually be. I did this, sort of, in my head with a calculator….and it surprised me. I decided my logic was flawed and I ran an Excel Spreadsheet on it. I got the SAME answer….but I used the SAME logic….sort of checked my math.
SO, here is the BOTTOM LINE….IF you accept my assumptions below….then for the sum of around $7 per GAME per TICKET (for the next 3 years), we could do TWO THINGS…..
Pay Coach Doeren’s Severance…..
Employ a NEW coach with a 50% increase in Coach Doeren’s total compensation…..and we would then be competitive with UNC (and others as well).
GOT ALL THAT….THERE WILL BE A POP QUIZ…..You can take my data and plug it into Excel or do the math by hand. I made a FEW assumptions….which you always have to do. IF I am incorrect, then I offer a Contingency to make the change. You add a 15% increase to the Concessions….That would amount to, conservatively, about $250,000….which could fill in if ticket sales dropped or also provide additional funds for a “better” coach.
Here is the assumptions that I used….hope you can follow the math….and the logic. We have a LOT astute folks with a variety of professional (current and retired) experience….I URGE them to read this and try to understand my logic and see if they can, using their own model, verify or correct mine. Hope you made it this far….

ParticipantI can’t figure out how to copy & paste on my Droid, otherwise, I’d put in the Latin.
Yesterday, Coach Doeren’s dauntless troops were wandering aimlessly and inadvertantly “Crossed The Rubicon”….e.g.
The dye is cast, figuratively speaking. Whether A D Yow decides to continue to wear the garment or goes shopping for a new pants suit is the question.
Jimbo ain’t gonna let Clemson beat his Seminoles TWICE. In effect, next week, Clemson beats one team again…and the odds are, it is us.
We’ve had the discussion about Les and Art and maybe a few others before. The season will end and odds are, we wear the stained outfit one more year….but the mess of the rest of the season might bear more weight this year.
If the Cubbies are “still in it”, then, I suppose, so are we.
I quipped yesterday, about mid Q4.
The hapless are hosting the hopeless…and it is humorlessly hilarious. OUCH… little did I think it would end that way…. but it did.

ParticipantWordPress ate my post.
DD’s contract runs through 12/31/19. Base is $840,000. Fire him at end of season and it costs you $2,520,000 in equal installments until then….less what he earns as a D1 Coach. He also gets $1,360,000 Supplement, 20 FB tickets, 6 BB tickets (including travel to away games and post season for he and spouse), 2 cars and a State Club membership.
Debbie plans on being here until 2019.
Unless the fat cats stop writing checks or unless a LOT of LTR season ticket holders quit purchasing the tickets (and thus forfeit all their pledge $$), NOTHING….IMHO will happen.
If my long and rambling post is released from the TO file, I apologize for double posting on the same topic.
FSU is trying to make Dabo’s Halloween….a real TRICK. Cubbies got their trick tonight. Native Americans are salivating at clinching series in Buckeye land….

ParticipantWell,
Back from dinner with DW and lovely GK’s and a nice LARGE Margarita. This thought occurred to me PRIOR to getting there. I think a LOT of the CF FB Fan Base is actually the “Social” set. You have to have some exposure to the Cotillians and the Debutante Balls (local and state) of central and eastern NC. We are a “social species”. The tailgating is decades or generation old at CF. Teams come and go….coaches come and go. Reynolds almost went….and the PNC appeared. BUT, the constant in the equation….the TG in the PL.We (me included) can opine, embellish (not Moi), rant, rave, threaten, etc. BUT, a few facts remain. CF is usually at least 90% sold out. Right, Wrong or indifferent, the chief “deal closer”, Bobby Purcell has done a great job at exploiting our brand. We bought the LTR concept for the CF seats. We then followed suit in the PNC. I know folks that actually gave up their PNC Champions Club and paid a hefty “Priority Club Enhancement” amount so that they could move “into the PNC bowl”.
YES, there are folks here, and I totally respect their motivation and decisions, that will either NOT use the rest of their tickets or not purchase the Season Tickets next year. However, there seems to be several OTHERS that are in the line to “upgrade” to these tickets. If you look at the CF seats, there are very few “regular” season tickets. My nephew purchased the LTR to the Season tickets that he had had for several years as they were going to be “put on the block”. He bought them for kids he has yet to conceive.
I also have a BIL that is not a WPC member. But, a close friend upped his quota to 4. So, he and his wife have great seats and also a parking spot within 20 yards of a CF gate. They enjoy the FB games, but they really attend for the socializing and “Tailgating”. I don’t think his wife understand the difference between Off Sides and Pass Interference….but she makes a MEAN TG cuisine….and they have a crowd there.
Today, I also talked to a longtime WPC member and his friends. I did not realize that he was right up the lot from me….but recognized his car. He and his friends spend considerable money on their spreads. Big screen TV’s, catered meals, custom tents, tarps, etc. for inclement weather….and a flag pole that should be lighted for the flyover.
Having contemplated it…..as long as FB ticket sales are good…..there will probably NOT be a change….until after AD Yow is retired. I stated my feelings that we are now in a state of “continuing decline”….but as long as the FB program is breaking even or providing a profit….then nothing will be done….especially since it would cost some BIG $$’s.
I would say one thing about the Reynolds remodeling. I was NOT a major contributor….probably less than my fair share. However, after attending the dedication and seeing how the “hear and soul” of Reynolds was preserved and also how the building was salvaged and made into a really functional enterprise, my hat is off to her. If you have memories dating back over 50 years to it, as my wife and I do, you might understand.
I plan to take my kids and my GK’s to some functions there so they can see the transformation.
Others may (and probably will) differ….but I am proud that we were able to salvage it and also upgrade it.
Clemson is ahead by 2 TD’s NOT GOOD….BUT, the Native Americans are up 3 to 1 over the Young Caniforms…..and THAT is pleasing to me. OTHERS….probably not so.

ParticipantIt HAD to be the politicting in the parking lot. I did a poll and I saw about 50 – 60% SUV/PUT; rest were sedans. I DID see one white and one red Prius. I also noted many “make America GREAT T-Shirts in the PL and also in the crowd”. Did not see any “I’m with HER” clothing. Maybe it was the impact of Mr. Comey (starts with C) yesterday.
Will Ferrell did make a light hearted comment about “nest of Deplorables”.As to the ball game, I thought that the Karma of the Canes would prevail. Howsomeever, what DID prevail was the Tow Trucks. There was an armada of tow trucks “clearing the lot”. Seems that a lot of the Canes fans abandoned their vehicles as the celebrated WAY too long after the game and either TaxiTaxi’ed or Uber’ed home. The WPC golf carts were running around like Tesla’a on autopilot calling in the “Take em OUTTA here”. Many fans were circling and were upset. Some actually “bunked” with friends that have two PP spots and they adjusted their tailgate routine.
Obviously I got there too early and wandered around and talked to some WPC folks and other “regulars”.
The game started on a downer…..can’t remember what play, but it was in the first series where they got their first “20 Yd Plus” play. NOT GOOD….UGLY.
And, to add insult to INJURY…..another C….Cherry, the Ace Official, was on the scene…..forgetting to turn on his mike from time to time. He was “reviewed” more than a Trump Beauty contestant. It was unbelievable. The announcers said that obviously the G’Boro ACC War Room’s cameras were “better” than the telecast as they were seeing things or reviewing things that our own field correspondents and also some of the coaches did not see.
We LOST. We SUCKED. We had NO energy. We seemed to have NO clue or motivation.
Will DD rectify the situation? Probably stand a better chance of James Comey giving out additional info on QB…. OR, probably a better chance that the MSM will let up on her adversary.
The season looks in jeporady. Is it lost? Of course not….BUT, it is looking as BLEAK as DD’s chances WERE….prior to Mr. C’s pronouncement.
WILL WE RUN THE TABLE….or get laid on the table and the whole bier gang “uses us”? I’m thinking that there will be no more rolling balls for a while on the green…..but you never know…
DD does deserve a real review….but that probably is not in the books…..or in the emails or whatever….

ParticipantBOTB,
Will the “curse” of Valvano come to CF tomorrow? The hapless (as in the fans are UNHAPPY with LESS WINS) Canes won, finally, tonight. SO, maybe the Curse of JV will be in Time Out for a while. Gonna be there….in shorts, no less. NOW, will the cameras keep zooming in on me like an ample chested blonde NCSU fan wearing an XS thin T when she should have an XL, don’t know….
GO PACK….time for the REAL Stuffed and Roasted Eagle banquet.
