November 23/24 Open Football Thread

There’s one good game (TAMU at LSU, CBS) and one snow game (Stormin’ Mormons at Gold-headed Catholics, NBC) on right now. Enjoy!

Don’t forget two key games later tonight – Mizzou at Ole Miss (7:45, ESPN) and Baylor at Okie State (8:00, ABC).

Beloved Pey Pey and crew invade the Massholes in the Sunday night game tomorrow.

Before that, the Panthers plan to Ice Up the Fins.

OK Troll, I’m bored, so I’ll play with ya.

Wrong? I can’t speak for ‘foose, but I didn’t predict we’d lose. Nor did I predict we’d win. I only commented that based on some scouting, and most specifically, Central’s demolishing of Campbell in Buies Creek by 19, when we struggled to beat them at home (the 15 pt final margin was NOT indicative), that we might be in for a dogfight against Central.

I have never professed to be any sort of prognosticator, especially against the spread.

    Quite the contrary, in fact.

Beaver pounding gonna put me straight to sleep, I’m afraid. Ah, the joys of getting old…

  3. Wufpacker 11/23/2013 at 11:08 PM #

And FWIW, if we can’t keep Credit Union U off the glass, we might be in for another WTF’er on Tuesday.

    So prepare yourselves.

    Just saying.

At this point…nothing at all could surprise me anymore. Well, nothing BAD could surprise me.

  5. Wufpacker 11/23/2013 at 11:16 PM #

    Hehehe. Announcer on UW/OSU….

    Beavers in a hole early.

    Isn’t that kinda redundant?

At this point, I’m just kinda curious how the Ravens might manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory tomorrow vs the Fighten’ Genos.

Sonny Dykes lost 63-13 today to Cal’s hated rival. Beliema lost to Miss State at home and it was only the Bulldogs second conference win. Purdue’s first year HC, Harzell, led his team to a home loss against an Illini team that had zero conference wins coming in.

Just like us, first year HC’s, and 0 for the world. All these Coaches have compiled a solid resume and it wouldn’t surprise me if all four get things sorted out soon.

Dykes kind of scares me and I’m so glad there was never any interest between us and him. They flat out don’t play a down of defense and have had serious problems with penalties. I’ll take DD’s warts over that atrocity any day.

Thanks Troll. I told my weekly poker game, about 20 folks, before tipoff. But other friends of mine had the same opinion. I couldn’t care less if you believe me.

  9. tjfoose1 11/24/2013 at 12:05 AM #

No Wuf’, I didn’t predict a loss. But wasn’t expecting a win, either.

Baylor was fools gold, as was Oregon. It really is very simple. We are headed for Bama/FSU, but will Winston be there?

And how about Mizzou? A win away from the East.
And just like we can’t lose to Central in hoops, Florida can’t lose to Ga Southern on the gridiron.

tj, bc had the same players and they were not good. They were finishing at the bottom of the league and their defense was not especially strong either. Now coaching has changed that. They former coach was fired because his recruiting fell off and couldn’t coach. Addizio is not in a midst of a dumpster fire and has proven he can coach. I do not believe it takes 3-5 years to evaluate a coach.

“Being so close to Sendek has made him wise by osmosis.”

(FTR, this is just for fun and in no way a shot at Wufpacker or anyone else 🙂 )

    The Herb Sendek Quote Machine:

“NC Central is just a rich, tradition-laden program. When you step out of your day-tight compartment, you can see the unbelievable amount of depth and talent across their current roster. Honestly, we were just fortunate to get to overtime against a program of this magnitude.

I hope our fans realize that we will face a similar trial next week against the Credit Union. It will be a daunting task, but we will honor the process and be as prepared as we possibly can be.

Credit Unions are known for their good work within respective communities. Unfortunately for us, Tony, this Credit Union won’t be giving us anything but a hard time. We need our 4500 fans who will attend to show up early and be loud for us to have any hope of competing.”

Steve Addazio has come in and provided a spark to a program that was at the bottom. I don’t know if they have more talent than us or not. Does Duke? Probably. Just so sad what has happened here. I’m not pissed sat Doeren, at least not yet. I am, however, very upset with Gott. Year three in his tenure and we look like a seniors YMCA team. That is on him. He has “talent”, but they aren’t playing like it. That’s on the coach especially three years into it. He will have to do a lot to change my mind about him. I think he is a average to below average head coach that may have a decent year every now and then but not consistently.

Yesterday was pretty embarrassing, not because of the butt whupping we took, but the total take over of our stadium by the “Purple / Gold” crowd. It started at 8:30 when we arrived at our normal tailgate location to find nothing but Purple Tents set up all over. Then to make matters worse (ignoring the score), the Purple/Gold chant was extremely loud thru out the game and basically took over CF by mid 3rd quarter. Mostly ECU folks around me by the 3rd quarter and I’m on the 40/sec5/east…….. Granted, they had a better product on the field and deserved the chance to “ARR”, shame on the thousands that sold out. Or, perhaps just stupid of me to not do the same thing??

Mike Wallace, biggest free agency bust of the year, is single-handedly ending my fantasy season. Boooooooo

^If I had money, I would’ve bet on the Dolphins today.

No Charles Johnson, plus emotional win on Monday night over NE – seemed like a letdown could easily happen. Newton getting his jaw busted on the first play didn’t help matters either.

  18. Wulfpack 11/24/2013 at 3:37 PM #

I saw a letdown for Panthers too, but thought the D line would dominate the makeshift Dolphins line. Cats still with a shot despite a bad outing. And that is a sign of a very good team.

  19. BJD95 11/24/2013 at 3:40 PM #

I could use two long Gano FGs, fo sho.

  20. BJD95 11/24/2013 at 3:45 PM #

Come on Cam, 20 yards gets us in FG position!!! Then win it in OT.

  21. Wulfpack 11/24/2013 at 3:48 PM #

Heels top Louisville in hoops. Oh my.
