Leave the ACC. Leave it NOW! [Updated 11:50PM]

There is no fixing this league. There is no gaining respect when your level of play warrants it. It’s broken beyond repair. Somebody will take us. I don’t care who. I just want out of this bush league organization.

Addition by NCStatePride…

When I was at the hardware store the other day I saw a mother with her child.  The child kept reaching for candy at the counter and the mother kept saying no.  It went from the child asking for candy to reaching for candy to taking the candy to opening the candy.  Each time the mother said, “Stop it, sweetie.  Come on, stop it.  I’m serious, stop it.”

NC State has been saying “stop it” for a long time.  We’ve had a lot of discussion here on StateFansNation on the refs and even written article about the obvious/admitted bias of ACC officials towards certain programs.  Personally, when the discussion of leaving the ACC comes up, I feel it’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.  You have a bunch of (mostly) younger fans who have this crazy idea that we should abandon being a ‘basketball school’ and focus on football and construct these elaborate ideas of why playing in the SEC would work.  The problem is that now I’m in a situation where I’m tired of saying “stop it” to the ACC officials and now just want to do something drastic for sh*ts and grins and to make a point.

It’s official, regardless of how good or bad I feel a move to leave the ACC would be, I am officially on-board with leaving the ACC if for no other reason than to send a message that this officiating is complete Bullshit.  Would it cause a dip in our performance?  I think it would.  Would it screw up some of our scheduling and maybe even our bottom line?  I have no clue; there are a lot of variables there.  The one thing I do know is that when NC State and Duke can play at Cameron, have matched defensive efforts (sort of), and NC State out shoot Duke both behind the arc and inside of it and STILL loose because we simply can’t play defense in the second half… I’m done.  I’m taking my ball and leaving.

In the last 7 or 8 minutes of the game, the State players’ body language made it clear that they expected to lose this one despite a 20-point lead. I don’t blame any one player; it took a true team effort to blow this one.

Attitudes, not poor officiating, determine game outcomes like this one. Mental midgets give up and don’t finish games. That’s what this coaching staff has to deal with, plus these bad attitudes.

As stated earlier, if this team doesn’t make the NCAA post-season, I don’t want to see them do this again in an NIT game against a far-flung, second-rate non-BCS school.

The NCAA is still within reach, but the way our players looked on the bench during those last minutes, I have serious doubts we’ll make it.

    It’s a shame.

Regardless of NC State’s role in the establishment of the ACC, it’s time to move on. The ACC is totally corrupt and the blue teams have become “too big to fail”. With the officiating being rigged via “touch fouls on one end and muggings on the other”, the deck is stacked. If we stay, we’re chumps.

I hope you don’t mind me adding to your article, BJD95. I wanted to 110% back you up here.

I wish Gott would pull a Bob Knight on them tonight and throw a chair across the floor. Something’s going to have to happen to get the ACC’s attention. Too many years of this crap, it’s just routine now.

^I mostly agree with this … Though I am overwhelmingly proud of the way our guys played tonight. The team is still so mentally fragile. The refs affected the outcome, but our guys did give in to that “well, here we go – gonna lose” mentality.

Still didn’t deserve this fate though. Deserve’s got nothing to do with it though (especially in the Blue ACC).

    where we going– big east.

duke got some calls to say the least. However, their guards took it over and we couldn’t do anything about it.

We finished weak again. Our free throw shooting at the end of games is not worthy. Hard to win close ones if you can’t shoot.

Very proud of the effort and coaching. Our guys played much better. Now if a few of them could stay away from useless fouls 40 ft from the basket, will make a difference.

In any close game, other teams should foul us at the end and make us make FT to close it out.

BULLSHIT ‘Packer. The body language was what it was because they knew they were being F’d!

  8. swamppack 02/17/2012 at 12:40 AM #

Those trying to put this one on the players ought to rethink what they are saying. Wake up.

  9. 8pack 02/17/2012 at 12:40 AM #

We WERE absolutely the better team tonite. I thought we played great. Even while they were coming back, the guys that were on the floor played relatively well. We didnt cave… we basically had to move out of the way on defense to keep it from being Duke vs. Staats Battle, etc. for the last 12 minutes. Complete BS. This corruption has gone entirely too far.

Said this earlier, wasn’t posted cause maybe the server was down, but I think it’s a reasonable point:

It’s easy to seem like sour grapes talking about the zebras and the 16 point lead at half being squandered because of the way “the third team” showed up in the second half. (even though it isn’t sour grapes…just easy to seem that way.) And the fact that all the ACC is now is Duke and Carolina basketball. But beyond that, the game has been over for five minutes and we still have a black screen on our TV. Every time the game turned into pixels, I said, “This is when they come back and Duke is up by three.” An ACC Heidi Bowl. My wife aptly noted that Raycom or whothefuckever managed to get back in time for the commercials. We ended up watching the most of the second half on First Row Sports because we couldn’t get it on TV or theacc.com. And that’s one reason we should leave the ACC – the complete incompetence of even having the wires connected correctly to SHOW the game.

I agree, for many reason, the ACC isn’t what it once was. But that’s just the icing on the cake for me.

  11. tjfoose1 02/17/2012 at 12:42 AM #

The body language was not of quiters, is was of a team that knew it was being F’d and was powerless to do anything about it.

  12. NCStatePride 02/17/2012 at 12:43 AM #

    @tjfoose1 gets it.

  13. BJD95 02/17/2012 at 12:44 AM #

The Aggies finally had enough of everything revolving around Burnt Orange. Time for us to wake up just the same.

  14. turfpack 02/17/2012 at 12:44 AM #

Ya’ll can accept the BS if you want, but if this is what we get every time in blueville. F***ACC,F***SWOFFART,F***REFS,F***K,F***ROY,F***DUKE,F***ACCBB and the horse they road in on…..where’s the Tyenol.

  15. tractor57 02/17/2012 at 12:47 AM #

8pack Absolutely? I think not. A lot of more than silly fouls that put the team in a world of hurt. Much better performance that previous years but still when the rubber meets the road …

I’m proud of this team but I also can see some faults.

Obviously BDJ doesn’t agree with my view. Leave the ACC? I think not for a lot of reasons. Agenda driven the original post was.

  16. STLPack01 02/17/2012 at 12:49 AM #

The ACC has everything invested in the Duke/UNC rivalry. Do you think they would allow NCSU to get in the way of that economic windfall? These are new games, new economic realities that did not exist 20 years ago. We picked the wrong time to suck.

  17. tractor57 02/17/2012 at 12:49 AM #

and I think the all black uniforms SUCK

  18. 8pack 02/17/2012 at 12:50 AM #

^61… I assume you are talking about Calvin and Rich after they fouled out. Really cant blame them. They were spent after giving everything they had against Duke and K’s bitches in stripes.

Otherwise, you are dead wrong. With 40 minutes of foul trouble and almost no bench to go to, our guys kicked the shit out of the #4 team in the country… on their floor… in front of their fans, for about 34 minutes. The guys on the floor showed none of the poor attitude that you wrote about. What game were you watching?

  19. Dreadstone 02/17/2012 at 12:50 AM #

14 fouls in 7 minutes. NC Starters called for 17 fouls, Duke – 9.

It’s time to explore other (league) options.

  20. jwoerner89 02/17/2012 at 12:51 AM #

    @turfpack also gets it…

In my 22 years I have never, never ever, been more pissed off at a single sporting event. EVER.

  21. Ashman87 02/17/2012 at 12:51 AM #

So basically, if we have Big East Officials calling this game, we win because they would not have been calling all those little fouls. If we can’t leave the ACC, can we at least somehow trade the conference’s officiating crews for someone elses? I would be okay with that.

  22. BureauOfMines 02/17/2012 at 12:53 AM #

“The ACC has everything invested in the Duke/UNC rivalry.”

They are “too big to fail”, just like the banks and the whole thing is just as crooked.

“and I think the all black uniforms SUCK”

amen. Why oh why the black uniforms? Whose idea was that? The school colors are red and white.

  23. wolfie91 02/17/2012 at 12:56 AM #

61Packer, we did withstand more than 1 Duke run, so I am encouraged by that. The guys just have to keep fighting. They’ll get that breakthrough win. Maybe 1 this weekend and 1 next week.

  24. Ashman87 02/17/2012 at 12:57 AM #

By the way, whose idea was it to have the black uniforms for basketball? We haven’t such bad uniforms since those really weird ones we used to have during the Les Robinson era. (On the other hand, we had some memorable wins over UNC with those uniforms, so……..) To be serious, though, it could have been better, but I think Mike Geminiski made a really good point about this team. We have experience, but not experience in BIG GAMES. Hopefully, we’ll snag a win over FSU, which seems to be limping right now. Perfect time for the Pack to prounce on some wounded people.

  25. BJD95 02/17/2012 at 12:58 AM #

Au contraire. I’ve always advocated SEC membership, very true. Only logical.

Now, I’m just saying to hell with the ACC. All it offers is bad football and promoting two basketball programs while the rest of the league rots down to the core.

It’s not possible to kick Duke’s ass more thoroughly than we did tonight. And what did they showcase at halftime of that ass kicking? Austin Rivers’ shot in Chapel Hill.
