Leave the ACC. Leave it NOW! [Updated 11:50PM]

There is no fixing this league. There is no gaining respect when your level of play warrants it. It’s broken beyond repair. Somebody will take us. I don’t care who. I just want out of this bush league organization.

When I was at the hardware store the other day I saw a mother with her child.  The child kept reaching for candy at the counter and the mother kept saying no.  It went from the child asking for candy to reaching for candy to taking the candy to opening the candy.  Each time the mother said, “Stop it, sweetie.  Come on, stop it.  I’m serious, stop it.”

NC State has been saying “stop it” for a long time.  We’ve had a lot of discussion here on StateFansNation on the refs and even written article about the obvious/admitted bias of ACC officials towards certain programs.  Personally, when the discussion of leaving the ACC comes up, I feel it’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.  You have a bunch of (mostly) younger fans who have this crazy idea that we should abandon being a ‘basketball school’ and focus on football and construct these elaborate ideas of why playing in the SEC would work.  The problem is that now I’m in a situation where I’m tired of saying “stop it” to the ACC officials and now just want to do something drastic for sh*ts and grins and to make a point.

It’s official, regardless of how good or bad I feel a move to leave the ACC would be, I am officially on-board with leaving the ACC if for no other reason than to send a message that this officiating is complete Bullshit.  Would it cause a dip in our performance?  I think it would.  Would it screw up some of our scheduling and maybe even our bottom line?  I have no clue; there are a lot of variables there.  The one thing I do know is that when NC State and Duke can play at Cameron, have matched defensive efforts (sort of), and NC State out shoot Duke both behind the arc and inside of it and STILL loose because we simply can’t play defense in the second half… I’m done.  I’m taking my ball and leaving.

My acc.com/live feed died at about 10 minutes to go and a 20 point lead. Maybe it’s a good thing.

Ban me if you like but I call bullshit!

  3. GoneFishin 02/17/2012 at 12:12 AM #

Yep, we were in foul trouble and they weren’t. Call the same amount of fouls coming out of the half on both teams (alot). We have to bench our starters, they don’t and that put us behind the eight ball. They can weather it, we can’t…

I missed parts of the second half, and every time I was able to check the score it seemed they cut our lead by five points. Were we robbed or we simply couldn’t hold the lead like at other times during this season?

We were the better team. We were clearly the better team.

    We lost.

I think that says all it needs to say.

I hope Gott unleashes a full scale tirade in the post game press conference. It’s worth a one game suspension IMO.

And Yow needs to also go ballistic on the ACC office.

This bullshit will continue until they show they will not take it. Just like Coach K did re: UNC after he was in the ACC for a while.

I concur. Where’s the form; I’ll fill it out, sign it and send it in. Fuck the acc!

Not sure this feeling will last, but for the first time ever, I feel the same way. There seems to be an undeniable effort by the league to prop up the two “marquee” programs.

Then when the Devils were in hack-tastic catchup mode…loose whistle all of a sudden. Gee whiz.

Not leaving this league is to be complicit in the fix.

I concur. Where’s the form? I’ll fill it out, sign it and send it in. I’m sick of the acc.

We were not the better team. We were close but not better. When crunch time came we caved.

It’s easy to seem like sour grapes talking about the zebras and the 16 point lead at half being squandered because of the way “the third team” showed up in the second half. (even though it isn’t sour grapes…just easy to seem that way.) And the fact that all the ACC is now is Duke and Carolina basketball. But beyond that, the game has been over for five minutes and we still have a black screen on our TV. Every time the game turned into pixels, I said, “This is when they come back and Duke is up by three.” An ACC Heidi Bowl. My wife aptly noted that Raycom or whothefuckever managed to get back in time for the commercials. We ended up watching the most of the second half on First Row Sports because we couldn’t get it on TV or theacc.com. And that’s one reason we should leave the ACC – the complete incompetence of even having the wires connected correctly to SHOW the game.

I agree, for many reason, the ACC isn’t what it once was. But that’s just the icing on the cake for me.

i cant wait to the hothead boeheim gets in the league and gets a jobbed by the officials and see what he has to say

  15. wolfy85 02/17/2012 at 12:18 AM #

I’ve never felt this way either and have told other State fans they are wrong when they say it to me, but i agree tonight. No reason to stay, their is clearly SOMETHING going on. Their is but one fix, find a new conference home.

    Knee …. Jerk …. Reaction.

    Yes, we were robbed.

Yes, Puke had the Refs on their side … AGAIN.

Still …. you can’t be serious about leaving the ACC? The league WE created.

Regardless of the outcome … we should all feel much better tonight than how we did one year ago.

No moral victories. Still … we GOTT this. Just have the faith of a mustard seed.

    What a joke of a league…

  18. GAWolf 02/17/2012 at 12:20 AM #

A hahaha. Expose on WRAL is basically saying expansion has been an absolute disaster…but it some of the misconceptions therein are part of the problem.

  19. moose8865 02/17/2012 at 12:20 AM #

if the sec comes calling, we better goe packing as fast as we can

  20. Dreadstone 02/17/2012 at 12:21 AM #

It’s time to explore other (league) options. Specifically football money, which the ACC is most definitely NOT.

14 fouls in 7 minutes during the second half. Fouls on starters: NC State – 17, Duke – 9.

Again, to reiterate, it’s time to explore other options. Everett, Norm, Jimmy, I apologize, but I refuse to condone this swofford abortion anymore.

  21. GAWolf 02/17/2012 at 12:21 AM #

Basically, the profit margin for ACC pre expansion in both revenue sports was higher than it is now. f Swofford, f this conference, and let’s get the f out.

    That bastard.

Leaving the league is quitting. We just dominated the number four team in the country for 36 minutes. Beat the blues at their own game is the only way to get justice.

  25. WendellPackster 02/17/2012 at 12:22 AM #

You know, it’s in the bylaws of the acc that we can only win at dook 3 times in basketball this century (10 times in Raleigh this century).
