I’ve got no love for Hess, but a know a lot of Liberty grads and not a one of them is racist.

I, too, know a lot of Liberty grads… and I know zero who (a) have an open mind about any topic, or (b) have a single non-white friend or acquaintance.

    Just sayin’…

Man, that Maryland series. They’re 3-8 against the rest of the league, 3-0 against us. Win just one of those, and we’re a half-game ahead of them in the standings. Sigh…

    Enough said.

Our problem remains the lack of wins against good opponents, since we remain o-fer against the top 50. Beat Pitt? Great – they’re dropping out of the top 50 as soon as we beat them.

Face it – a team that doesn’t win a game against good competition isn’t going to the tournament. Not happening. No how, no way.

So I’m pretty close to Ovies here – winning the next three doesn’t do it. Winning a meaningless Thursday game does nothing. Winning one Friday game doesn’t do it – still gives us just one good win, and it could be a fluke. Beat two of the top four teams in the league on back-to-back days? We at least have a shot.

But I think we need to win out. We’ve just got zero resume right now.

Know what the shame of it is? This crew called a great first half. The wife (a unc-ch fan) and I both commented on it – they let them play, we got to play interior defense, and we played them even.

The problem is that, even after that half, I told her that the 2nd half would be called differently – which is exactly the unforgivable mistake that officials can’t make… but do far too often. It went from a classic Big East-style match… contact allowed at both ends… to a game where one team was not allowed to play defense (double bonus for ‘Cuse halfway into the 2nd half), while the other team finished the game with 5 total 2nd-half fouls. That disparity allowed Syracuse to get back in the game after getting down 5 points… without making baskets. The incessant parade to the free throw line, coupled with Syracuse’s ability to apply unbelievable pressure during the last minute with no risk of sending us to the line, is what decided the game.

Yes, I’m infuriated by the one call – but I’m more pissed off because I KNEW at halftime that we would not be allowed to play defense in the 2nd half – and we weren’t. In the end, the wife agreed – she acknowledges that State is on the wrong end of baffling losses with a frequency that defies any explanation – losses that she has yet to see unc-ch witness a single time in her 21 years of pulling for them. She acknowledges that the calls directly affect the outcome of games – and she even points it out when, strangely, a game seems to be called equitably when we’re involved.

The travesty for the league is that Saturday’s game reduced the number of NCAA entrants from the ACC by one. Without a near-miracle run, that game eliminated us from the discussion, RPI be damned. We have zero true quality wins, and a team without them just ain’t getting in. (Winning at Pitt, and at home against unc-ch would now be the hurdle we have to clear.)

So another spring where I’m resigned to not caring. Not out of lack of support for the team, but a necessary emotional detachment out of self-preservation… because regardless of what this team does, they have had and will have success taken from them. And I just can’t watch it anymore…

    Dear Chargers –

Please don’t lose at home to the worst team in the league on a regular basis. It will be much better for your playoff chances and our sanity.

    Emkay, thanks.

    Sincerely,

Or… what if we weren’t playing the abomination that is TD Ameritrade Park, and Trea’s bomb actually left the yard like it would’ve anywhere else in the country. we are, at that point, in the driver’s seat.

Dayum. Let’s hope it makes ’em hungrier…

I did the same with my kids last year, Hawkeye. Watched Wood fire from 22 feet out on the left wing… probably drained 15 in a row. In Bird-like fashion, he started banking some, to break up the routine. Still no rim. Just dayum…

1 – Standing up for yourself, your team, your coach, and your school when wronged & disrespected is NOT ‘picking a fight’.
2 – So a ref can tell a coach to STFU, but a coach will then get fined in the post-game presser if he calmly (and without profanity) questions the actual calls made during a game? Yeah – that makes sense.

For those who read The Hunger Games, the ACC has morphed into Panem… blue schools live in The Capitol… the Pack resides in District 12…

    Guys, you’re all overthinking it.

We can’t dribble. We can’t pass. We can’t shoot.

We can’t defend. We can’t rebound.

We are a bad basketball team in every facet of the game. The odds of that changing are pretty damn slim. If Sid is employed next year, I believe Tracy will be the reason, as he will have done nothing to earn another chance. This is Sid’s high-water mark… this is a perfectly-constructed team in terms of talent and a blend of youth/experience… and we’re getting nothing. I’ve seen enough…

    Damon Thornton @ Umd. v2009.

Worst officiating I’ve seen in years… and directly responsible for the outcome of today’s game.

Sure, the kids (and coaches) could’ve overcome it… but they shouldn’t have had to… Va Tech was given double-digit points on absurdly bad calls (or no-calls)… the Pack was simply a victim of incredibly incompetent and/or biased officiating today.

One or more officials should lose their jobs. They won’t, but they should. My 7-year-old twin boys could do a better job.
