Finally, a 3 pointer by Lewis. Hopefully that will spark both him and our offense.

Regardless of the officiating, Georgia Tech is outplaying us, and it’s not close.

They can shoot from the outside. We can’t.
They can move the ball well on offense. We can’t.
They can rebound effectively. We can’t.
They can make a solid percentage of their free throws when they get to the line. We can’t.

Very little of that has to do with the officiating.

Enough whining about the refs. Our coaches need to coach better and our players need to play better.

Russell Wilson is also quite the bargain at $681,005 this season, $817,302 next season, and $953,519 the following season.

I hope RW is healthy come free agent time. I’d love to see him get a fat, life changing contract.

Wilson will earn a lot more than $953K in 2015. The Seahawks will be eligible to extend his contract after next season, and I’m sure they will do that and make him one of the game’s highest paid QBs. He won’t have to wait to become a free agent.

Same situation for Kaepernick this offseason, since this season was his third.

Our players do not seem to be progressing in their development. I’m starting to get concerned about what appears to point to coaching.

    I disagree with this.

    Under the current coaching staff:
    – Howell, Warren, and Vandenberg all transformed their bodies significantly. It appears Anya will do the same, having already shed 30 pounds since arriving on campus.
    – Brown, Leslie, Howell, Warren, and to a lesser degree Wood and Vandenberg all improved their play. Certainly some of that is due to experience and maturity that comes with age, but the coaching staff also deserves some credit.

I can only think of one rotation player who was in the program for more than one year and (so far) has not improved under the current coaching staff: Tyler Lewis.

As someone else noted, most player improvements happen during the offseason, not in season. And particularly in the offseason between the player’s first and second seasons. I expect our current players will be better next season.

Enjoyable game with many positives. In particular, I loved the 3/4 court pressure. I cannot recall a time Gott has pulled that out before early in a game. Am I forgetting another game he has done that?

Also, it was great to see the entire 9 man rotation contribute to the win. I liked Gott’s substituting and distribution of minutes in this game. If we can just bring this kind of team effort to each game, we have a shot at a nice season.

The main thing I’d like to see more of is low post offense. It seems our team almost never feeds a post player other than on the high post or an alley oop. Washington and Freeman have had some success shooting/attacking from the high post, which is great, but I don’t understand why we aren’t at least occasionally trying some low post offense.

I was also thinking it might have helped shake Warren loose a bit to play him at the 4 a bit last night, and let him be the guy flashing to the high post rather than Freeman/Washington.

Tyler looked good in the first half… better than I’ve seen him all season. Second half, he seems to have regressed back to his awful recent play.

Losing two straight games against good, but not great, opponents at home, I think it’s clear that this team has no shot at making the NCAA tournament.

Those who were suggesting State could win 11-12 more games this season were dreaming.

Please get Turner out of the game.

And, please, no one ever again compare him to Scott Wood. Wood as a senior was light years better than Turner is as a redshirt junior.

Announcers blowing the discussion of Lee’s reaction to his foul. He got pushed into the guy he was guarding.

Which starter did TOB coach besides Ryan, Wilson, and Glennon?

Gene, I think you are severely underrating Foles with that post.

Foles is much more mobile than Glennon. Foles is much better at moving in the pocket and outside the pocket to make throws (as opposed to running). He is also a better runner… he rushed 57 times for 221 yards and 3 TDs this season, compared to Glennon’s 27 rushing attempts for 37 yards and 0 TDs. Foles also turned the ball over much less often.

It is actually quite interesting to compare Wilson and Glennon, especially since they both are Wolfpack alums. It’s true that Wilson was in his second year, which clearly gave him an advantage. But many of the same excuses being made for Glennon in this thread also apply to Wilson.

Seattle’s #1 WR (Harvin) missed 15 games this season.
Seattle’s #2 WR (Rice) missed 8 games this season.
Seattle’s #1 LT (Okung) missed 8 games this season.
Seattle’s #1 RT (Giacomini) missed 7 games this season.

Beyond that, Seattle’s #1 TE, C, RG, and LG also each missed 1-3 games. As far as targets, Wilson certainly had no one comparable to Vincent Jackson.

Wilson was under pressure on more snaps than any QB in the NFL this season, and was mostly without his top 2 targets, yet he completed 63.1% of his passes and averaged 8.2 YPA. Glennon was under the next highest amount of pressure, and we’ve discussed his performance already.

Is it reasonable to explain away the difference by the fact that Wilson had one more year in the NFL? I tend to think not, I tend to think Wilson is a much more capable QB who will start for 15+ years in the NFL, whereas Glennon will likely be a journeyman.

It will be interesting to see it play out.

^Sorry, that should say 6.3 YPA. Don’t see any way to edit my post to fix it. But the associated ranking is correct.

First off, I recommend that you avoid much reliance on QBR as a useful metric. It has major flaws.

Setting that aside, Glennon did not perform very well this year. He completed just 59.4% of his passes (#26 among qualifying QBs) for just 6.2 yards per attempt (#37 among qualifiers). Those are metrics that are much more appropriate to use when judging QB play, and both of those numbers are awful.

Glennon’s 19:9 TD to interception ratio was good, especially for a rookie. But there are no positives beyond that.

ProFootballFocus rated him as the #32 QB this season… and their ratings are cumulative, so the fact that he didn’t play the first 3 games might have kept him from finishing lower. Their metrics show that he was a good deep passer but was terrible under pressure. Not much different than when he was starting for the Wolfpack.

Glennon ranked #22 in Football Outsiders QB passing DYAR, which measures QB total value. He ranked #26 in FO QB passing DVOA, which measures QB value per play. He ranked #31 and #34, respectively, in FO QB rushing DYAR and DVOA.

He was better than Josh Freeman, but that says more about how badly Freeman regressed/imploded than it says anything positive about Glennon.

With Schiano gone, I think it is more likely than not that Glennon will be replaced this offseason, one way or another. If not, I doubt his play will improve much, if at all, and he will likely be replaced after one more season.

I hope I’m wrong about that, but I don’t see Glennon as ever being more than a backup caliber NFL QB.
