Since I just graduated from UNCG I’ll be using the student ID for the game and don’t really know where I’ll be! I’m pretty sure I’ll be in Sec 124 and I’ll hang with the family as much as possible. Hope to see some of you guys there.
Ok, back to business – and I think it’s a good thing that it’s happening so soon after that occurrence on Sat. night.
I hope I’m wrong, but I expect this game to be close for at least thirty minutes and then we’ll see what happens down the stretch. Foul trouble and free throw shooting – those look like keys for us all season … I’m anxious to see the response tonight.
Wes Miller is still very hate-able to me. I know that’s not nice, but whatevs …
There is no reason, other than official incompetence, that TJ should not be shooting an and-1 on 75% of the shots he makes. I would wager that there is not a player in the country that scores as much as he does, who get less of their points from the line. TJ is very good at finding open areas, and getting uncontested put backs, but he also draws lots of contact that goes without a whistle.
Hopefully we are working non-stop in practice on our zone offense, because we won’t play many teams this year that don’t zone us. It’s an easy decision for the opposition, against man-to-man, I think our guys can hold their own against most any team in the country. Beating the zone seams so easy on paper, just get the ball to the high post, and break the zone down from there. In application, it seems as though our guys have a harder time with it. There is no reason we can’t run the UCLA offense against a zone, and our guys have to learn that. But they are young, and I’m sure they will keep getting better at it.
Lastly, Gott needs to work on his skill at working the refs, if there is such a thing. We don’t even get the normal home team favorable calls that you would expect against the scrub competition. How much of that we can control, outside of our “tendencies”, I honestly don’t know. All I know is that the best coaches out there are good at working the refs, and that doesn’t mean just complaining when they make a bad call.
As to zone offense, getting the ball to Kyle at the post is a new wrinkle I hope we see a lot more of. He seemed very comfortable with the short jumper. He’s improved his defense. If he can look for the pass as well as that shot, he’ll be scary good. I think he’s going to be great.
OK… after Saturday night’s disappointing loss….
I’m looking at 6’5″, 6’7″ 6’7″ && 6’7 across the Spartans starting front line…
and I “WONDERING” if we might see an ENTRY PASS off a SET PLAY
TO ANYONE of our BIGS ( 7’1″, 6’9″, 6’9″ && 6’8″ ) DOWN ON THE BLOCKS tonight ???Or will Cuz have to be a ONE-MAN-SHOW for us to get the Win ???

why are we just jacking up 3s? They are playing man, and we are bigger and more talented than they are?
I used to play against Avie. He was the most feared pickup player in the gym. He was a friggin beast.
We should use our size against these guys
BTW Avie coached Purvis at Upper Room and is now coaching/teaching at Neuse Christian (at least he was lats year)

So far we are doing excellent job of play one or two on five on offense.
And our success is duly reflected in the score.
