ParticipantObviously too out of touch with MLB. Had to google the names. I thought at first they the chief tweeters of the Zeb Squad that plied their trade in Brad Howard this past Saturday. BUT, alas and alack, they are merely BB folks that don’t show up on my multidisciplined radar.
I DO appreciate you, Mr. WufPacker, understanding my point. I get so many of the same pop-ups to vote for this scoundrel and to give money to that crooked politician…..so SFN is a bit of a relief….I know you can not do anything about the ZINC ads….and I DO see a LOT of stuff that I looked at or are in the same family thereof in the pop-ups. I sometimes just go out to Amazon and put in something random….like Long Sleeved Lady Gaga BJ Sweatshirts…..JUST to see what the cookies manipulators will think that I need to purchase…..
How bout changing the survey to “Will NCSU make a FB Bowl Appearance this (2016) Season. THAT should be interesting…..

ParticipantWell, at LEAST we gotta little respect….Look at the “Others receiving votes” for each of the polls.

Looks like if you beat ND, you get automatic votes….reference Stanford.
Speaking of ND, wonder if NBC is giving rebates to sponsors like the other networks are to the NFL sponsors for “low viewer ratings or poor ratings?
High Nooner for NCSU vs. Louisville on ABC this Saturday.

ParticipantNO kicks 52 Yarder. Panthers lose. Rookie comes through….but he IS paid more than Bamburg….
Need to start a Thread…..copying Roy Cooper’s latest Ad….
Paraphrasing….”Where does NCSU (FB) go from here…..?” Ole’ Roy’s got a plan….have we?
Actually, I am very pleased with what we did. Disappointed YES. Pleased and PROUD, Hades YES….
Doeren said it all yesterday in his two brief remarks….
I’m Emotional now and you aren’t going to get a lot to write about
We were 41 & 0 the last time we played down here. Today, we were in a position to win against the Number 3 team in the USA and we took it to OT. That is progress…..

ParticipantSo,
All of us armchair Coaches and Special Teams Coaches have our Sunday Morning Theory. So, I got mine. IT IS MENTAL. I could watch the game, but listened to the last two plays on radio. There really was NOT much doubt in Johnny Evans’ mind that Bamburg was gonna nail it. He talked about the “icing the kicker” TO, Dabo called it perfectly….and we even snapped the ball and Bamburg, as expected, nailed it. Evans’ comment was that should be a confidence builder and probably not a good move by Dabo. OK, Dabo makes more than Evans, so I guess pay grade DOES count. You could hear Johnny say, “IT MISSED” in a rather low and dejected voice.
I have NO input as to the last series, clock management, game strategy, etc. Comments are being made about that. I watched the first half and screamed every time we committed a bone head penalty. I also sort of think we were lucky that the refs did not call “targeting” on the running back. NOW, that is not saying it was deliberate….probably just good hard hitting. However, good hard hitting is getting more scrutiny….probably as well as it should be….and a hit like that is gonna get attention.
We made some mistakes….but all in all, we played right with them. I could not sleep last night and watched the two games (switching back and forth) and then the UCLA v WSU game. The crawlers and also the halftime reports on the Top 25 were quite complimentary to us.
YES, it is an L…and there is no such thing as a GOOD L. However, we did increase our stature in the FB world yesterday. We will need to keep that in perspective when we head to Louisville next week. Duke gave Bobby and boys a scare and he will NOT let them forget that. He might even cut off their volley ball girls and not let them borrow his Harley. THAT is how serious it is getting.
Whatever the ST and HC does about Kicking is gonna be their call. I would go with what I have. Obviously Bamburg has focus issues. BUT, if you demote him and your replacement is worse, you sure ain’t gonna get the SAME Bamburg back and THEN what will you do.
YES, there are great kickers….and probably some on Campus. How are you going to test them under pressure. Are you going to test them. How about telling them that it has come down to 3. There will be a Kick Off. It will be best of 5. The two losers will be castrated….you need SOMETHING to put them under pressure….
My take….others will (and probably quite strongly) disagree….I guess we will see who does the PAT’s and FG’s next week….and lets hope he has LOTS of opportunities….
10/15/2016 at 6:08 PM in reply to: Show Us Where the Bad Howard's Rock Touched You Game Thread #108384Adventuroo
ParticipantI don’t know a THING about kicking, except what I can read here. BUT, I can tell you that Kicking is a lot like golf or skeet shooting or bowling. HOW you do, once you have the mechanics down….assuming you have the eye-hand(foot) coordination and the overall athleticism and coordination….is all MENTAL. I have shot several rounds of skeet and you would have thought I was someone that just got a new gun and barely knew which end to whole. THEN the next week, I went 99 X 100 and had three perfect rounds. It is MENTAL….
Mark Thomas did a rather lengthly monolog on kickers. He says that Kickers are “Lone Wolves” and they live in their world. The coaches have a hard time “psychologically” managing (Coaching) them. He says that there are some kickers that will stay in the game and get excited and such….but others (just as successful) will stay totally “zoned out”. They only talk to their peers (punter) and their snapper. In some cases, they actually have a “Do NOT Enter My Space” area set up….and the coaching staff makes sure that it is honored. He says that based on his HS, NCSU and Pro Career and Johnny Evans agreed with him. Punters are NOT as “bad”, but they too, have to keep focused.
I was attending a memorial service and only caught the end of the game and the OT and then went in to the reception. When I came out, the radio crew was doing their post morteum….what they said….as well as what Mark Thomas said before….
You reach a point. IF you have a good kicker (strength, mechanics, mental focus, etc.), THEN most coaches will “work with him”. The special teams coach has to be more of a “shrink” than any other position. IF you let the guy get “tested” and let him kick a “Game Winner”, that (assuming he has potential) will usually seal the deal. Sort of like taking a great piece of meat and properly aging it and then cooking it with the skill of a master chef. BUT, if the kicker “senses” lack of confidence, then it is probably OVER for him for this season….perhaps his career.
Johnny Evans made essentially the SAME comments today. DOES the Coaching Staff “sit out” Bamburg (Sp?), for say 2 weeks? That MAY let him have a chance to wallow around in his grief and self pity and then he should “snap back”. OR do they provide mental (and emotional) support for him and help him ride through this and he will then become better….i.e., let him WIN a game for us….
The fact that he nailed the short FG as a “practice” when Dabo called the late, quick TO shows that he has the potential (skills), but the mental needs to be sharpened.
As much as I would have LOVED to win today, I was really proud of how the team played. I also do NOT know what “talent” we have as back-up and what “mental prowess” they also have….if you bail on #1…and #2 does worse, you MIGHT not have the same caliber of kicker when you go back to #1….

We got courage. That takes care of the cowardly Lion.

ParticipantCD,
As others have said….don’t sweat it. Sometimes what seems so trivial or perhaps “Genius” (in our own minds) does not turn out that way. I took no offense to your scripture reference and thought it was a good way to get a little more “Hook”.
NOW, having said that, I also can relate to your concerns or perhaps “invisible backlash”. I was working a hectic schedule where we were totally retooling an assembly line for a new model launch….and doing that for Ford….was worse than any government project. I was working 12 – 15 hours per day. It was my turn to teach Sunday School to a very eclectic group. OK, I got tied up and could not find a replacement early on. Saturday rolled around….18 Hours at work and I was the “Engineering Manager” responsible for both the design and the installation…..so I had NOT where to hide.
I was exhausted when I got home….and then I got a call that there was going to be a “staff” meeting at 6:00 AM on Sunday to “review” our progress. SO much for SS lesson prep. I just crashed….On the way to the plant the next morning, I got a Brain Cramp…It was EASTER…..Why didn’t I think of this earlier….
So, I crafted my lesson plan. God was like a football or sports coach. Things had NOT been going well and he needed to get his team fired up. Little did I know that Bobby Knight had had the SAME moment and did his infamous….”You guys are worse than my handful of feces” halftime routine.
SO, my lesson would be that God, as our coach, so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son…..to MOTIVATE US to do better and live the life that he (God) wanted up to do. I left the staff meeting early….pulled together the standard Easter Scripture and then planned to “wing it” and get a general discussion going.
THAT lesson plan, “Easter is a Half Time Locker Room Speech” probably lives in the HOF of the “WORST IDEA FOR A SS LESSON”. Even my wife almost got up and left. There was some discussion….mainly about connecting sports and religion and obviously all my symbolism got lost in the translation….BUT, Where I had had issues with getting folks to teach or help out…..NOW, I had unsolicited help….it actually gave me a rest….
SO, CD, I totally understand your concern and I, as well as a lot of others, I THINK, did NOT take offense…
On to Clemson….

ParticipantThis has morphed a bit. And, as Babs sings…..”Memories…..Time has rewritten every line….”. I also totally agree that each of us judge events by the impact on OUR life (home, area, friends, family, whatever). I was curious about how the various storms “stack up” and remembered reading something a few years ago. Now, this is NOT a modern document….in that it covers 1900 – 2005, but the methodology, like any “White Paper” or hypothesis can be argued and debunked….much like the political garbage we are seeing today.
Here is the link….
Click to access NormalizedHurricane2008.pdf
If you read (OK, skim) the first couple of pages, you get a feel for HOW they made the comparison….or “Normalized” the impact so that you were comparing apples to apples. They go into a LOT of detail and their model, I think, is adjusted for inflation and other factors. SO, based on THEIR model, here is the summary…. Rank, Name & Year…. I picked the ones that impacted NC. The list is on page 35 or Table 2.
#9 – Donna – 1960
#14 – Diane – 1955
#16 – Hazel – 1954
#23 – TS 7 – 1944
#33 – Floyd – 1999
#38 – Fran – 1996
#45 – Isabel – 2003
#39 – Ione – 1955OK, I never heard of Ione….it looks NC got hammered in 1955…now bear in mind, this is the POTENTIAL destruction or LOSS COST….based on the value of the real estate and population….not the individual losses or the Insurance Losses….
Fran was worse for me….I lived in Raleigh. I had trees down. I had no power for almost 2 weeks. Floyd sticks out in my mind for the massive flooding….but it did NOT flood me.
From a Loss of life….here is one resource. I THINK that this shows that our forecasters and emergency management folks HAVE had a very real and positive influence in reducing casualties….

ParticipantBecton901….sounds like you have a great marketing idea. Make a Faraday Cage that would double as a Genny rain cover frame. Then, you would be covered….maybe even have some type of metallic cover that was EMP and Water Proof….
Adventuroo
ParticipantInteresting question about EMP. I had to look it up. I’m with Yogi. My 5 1/2 YO Generac looks better every day. It is conventional, I think, but has some more filtering circuits to clean up the power. It is NOT a double rectified Inverter style my the Diesel Genny on my Motor Home. I suspect that any electronic device that you need a digital code for and there is one stored on an Eprom (or whatever device they use), WOULD be full of Little Microprocessors….and like the Snowflakes that we are seeing more of, any little EMP, like a Microagression, will cause them to want a safe space and totally shut down until they get their way.
GREAT POINT and INSIGHT….
On a more positive note, Duke Energy (yes, THAT DUKE….the one that is being bombarded with negative political ads) has really done a yoman’s job in restoring power. Wake was down to less than 10K last night. Have several friends that were told it would be later in the week….they are showering and bathing with HOT water and really happy about what Duke has accomplished.
We often say a word of thanks to our military and first responders and LEO….I think we ought to tell a lineman (person?) thanks for the hours they put in and for putting their personal safety on the line….
Adventuroo
ParticipantYogi and anyone else….
Talked to a retired electrical contractor. Generac has “tightened” the noose. He purchased and installed several large (150KW) Generac units for a DT Raleigh complex. They were the “Latest and Greatest” in the Electronic Control Generators designed for office complexes, computer networks as well as LARGE Motors to operate their printing equipment.
This was several years ago. He hit the same wall. The distributor that he purchased the units for….for his customer, had to come and out “inspect and activate” them. The “CODE” is actually an electronic serial number on the board that is also “mated” with the unit’s Serial Number. So it is unique. IF the board ever goes belly up or burns out, then there is (was then?) a set=up procedure to install a NEW board and then input the Unit (Genny) SN so that they were “paired”.
It appears that with the lower cost of electronics and more folks wanting higher level of electronic sophistication, that Generac is now using the same “logic” and that lower capacity units, WITH Electronic Control systems, have the same interlock. This was done to ensure that the installation was correct and also to reduce warranty costs….
Time and progress and electronics marches on….
Adventuroo
ParticipantYogi,
Tell your neighbor that IF he has to pay for an inspection and startup, to check on the Software Rev Level on the unit. After a little curiosity searching this morning, depending on WHICH 22KW he has, Generac has done MANY, MANY SW updates on some units and the one that he might have, even though, new….MIGHT not be the latest and greatest. Do NOT know if you can access the SW rev level through a laptop or if you need special connector and/or special Generac programming/diagnostic SW….
Wonder if you do an “upgrade”, will there be another “secret” SW password that you will need….Really great….how these Genny’s are so smart….they might need a computer to keep them running….
Adventuroo
ParticipantYogi,
Thanks for sharing that. I only needed one day on my Genny. It is an 8KW Generac that has a 12KW surge and also has spike and surge protection. It was designed for office and field work where you had electronics. I have it down to a 15 minute drill. When we got home the other night, I manually raised the garage door and did two connections and had power. Due to the weather, I i opted to partially close the garage door and keep the genny under cover rather than putting it outside. I HAD built a leanto frame and had a poly tarp….mainly for snow protection….but the wind would have tested my bungee cord tie downs.
I have also wired or set up about 10 homes over the past 20 years (after Fran) for generators. One was with a propane powered self contained 15KW Generac. That was my late MIL’s residence and I (and two licensed electricians that needed some weekend beer money) installed it and put in the emergency subpanel and the ATS.
I backfeed ONE of my 200 Amp panels through my 50 Amp RV breaker and then run a 110 VAC line to my garage for the freezer and the door opener. With the ceiling fan circulating and the floor fan blowing on the Genny and the garage/kitchen people door closed, I felt that an CO2 issues were mitigated….
I talked to folks at church last night that still have NO power. One is a resident of Raleigh….about 1/2 mile from Athens HS. The City (or Duke) has NO estimate for her. Another lives out my way and she and 2 others are on a “single” feed in their neighborhood….all around have power….but due to being only 3 customers, Sunday is her estimated restoration date….
I entertained the idea of a higher capacity self contained unit with a large propane tank….somewhere in the 20 KW range. BUT, that would have entailed a $10K install and totally gutting a wall for an emergency panel and having a Wake County permit. I passed and went the 8KW way. I do have a back-up plan….bring my 40 Ft Motor Home HOME and live in it….
Adventuroo
ParticipantThe debate will rage. One can fault the Emergency Management folks, the incumbent governor, John Swofford, NCSU or ND or perhaps The Donald. What remains as facts are….
When the decision was made, probably sometimes late Friday, the NWS and all the weather guru’s still have Matthew skimming the coast and heading out to sea and then making the pass at Florida again. It was NOT supposed to make landfall.
THEN, Matthew has a mind of his own. He decides to make Landfall in SC (McClelandsville?) and does that around 11:00 AM on Saturday. So, Matthew came a little further WEST. I also think that even before Matthew took a LEFTY, that it was slowing down somewhat. The result was that the rains lasted longer and we also got more of the force of Matthew.
I was at the game. I did have to do a little rerouting on the way home. I chose NOT to drive through a raging creek blocking Gormon. Avent’s Ferry was OK. There were two trees down, but neither blocked the road.
The Governor did not reneg on the SHP to “cover the game”. Niki Haley of SC Gov Fame informed Ray Tanner that USC would NOT have their SHP force of 200 – 300 and that the roads would NOT be “restored to normal” in that the evacuation lanes were still going WEST.
NC did not evacuate any areas near the triangle. I feel certain that if the NWS and the Local (State and TV) forecasters HAD been able to give a more definitive prediction, that the decision MIGHT have been reversed. BUT, you use the best info you have and make the call.
I was glad it was held. I support Pat McCrory and his handling of the situation. As I have stated before, I am MORE critical of NCSU and the Tornadoes that hit the Spring Game. When there were warnings and radar signatures all over the map, then the game SHOULD have been called. But it was not. Memory tells me that MORE folks died that day than so far with Matthew in NC….
Adventuroo
ParticipantOverall, as an armchair coach or critic, I WAS impressed with the Defense. However, in the fourth quarter (which we had the wind to our back….Remember that Forest Gump and Bob Seger know better than to “RUN” Against the Wind), we did drop our pass D. It seemed that we were satisfied to give up a few yards…..to prevent the BOMB. If the ND (Heisman talk) QB had launched a bomb, it might have boomeranged and got picked off…..
SO, that worried me. It seemed like we were trying to let them had short yards to prevent a score. FINE strategy….IF there was only 20 seconds and they were on their own 20 Yd Line…..
Unless we can conjure up a Hurricane, then it MIGHT be rough. Death Valley is always a tough venue…
TIME will tell.
BOTB….glad you are doing well and OK. We had to reroute on the way home from the stadium several times. US 1 South (beltline) was backed up so you could not get off Wade. This was after I stayed WAY late and bought a shirt as a treat to me. I was probably one of the last 100 that left the PNC lot. So, I proceeded east on Wade and picked up Gormon. OPPS….Water rising on Gormon between Avent Ferry and I-40. Then had to drive around (or under) trees for the next 5 miles. OPPS….no power. Get Genny set up. I did not expect it to come on today. Wake County is a mess. However, we did get power after Church. The main 13K feeder for some 5000 accounts was down on both Lake Wheeler and Penny Road. They got that back up….but our neighborhood has three feeds….two from Penny which are stable and underground. ONE on the back end where we are comes from Penny via a Tarzan style set-up where you need a tracked vehicle or a pontoon air boat. IT WAS STILL UP>>>>we have power.
Yard is a mess. Had to cut down a dead 100 ft pine that had the common courtesy NOT to fall. It went down today….after my Husqvarna took charge.
Flooding and water rescues are spooky….and I remember Floyd in 1999 and HOPE that we do not see that again. I had to drive on detours to get to a memorial service in Kinston from Raleigh….and on the way home….THAT detour was flooded.
Adventuroo
ParticipantRye,
My thoughts exactly. I sang the Alma Mater and saluted the band as well. THEY had a tough gig today.
You are correct….over 100K will claim “they were there….for the entire game”. BUT, according to much scientific research, that number will morph (as do the crowd sizes reported at some political and “moral” events by the local news media) to 250K telling their GK’s that they ARE WIMPS and that THEY sat through a Hurricane to watch their beloved Pack soundly trounce the “Irish”. Many of the fans, as I did, stopped and told one or two LEO’s that we appreciated THEM also. One almost teared up and shook my hand….
Was a great game….sometimes uncomfortable (to watch as well as endure) at times…but in the end….we WON.
I have NOT gone back to all the comments, but did anybody discuss ND’s “totally baffling….spelled S>T>U>PI>D….time out decisions at the end. WHY did they NOT call TO? They could have regrouped on D. THEN, it was like….”we will let NO TO be wasted” and did the idiotic TO calls for a “Knee Down” formation. Did they think we were gonna cough up the ball them? I don’t understand it….
Adventuroo
ParticipantDid not make the kickoff….but there midway Q1. WOW….Now I can add “Sit through FB game in Hurricane….” The stands were probably 80% full, maybe a little more. YES, they did start to thin out near the half. They were almost deserted during the half….THEN the Evacuate….EVACUATE (OK, it was VOLUNTARY)….but MOST did. Came back in for kick-off. There were probably at least 50% still there….
However, the noise was almost like a Full House. The Decibels per fan was about twice what it would be in a normal stadium. Team looked poised….OK, at least not addeled by the weather. Doeren’s decision (I think) to select the goal to receive was a good call. However, he needs to thank the D for their efforts. That Punt/Fumble recovery seemed to give the team a major shot of energy. The Ref’s did little to enamorate themselves with the crowd. Wife was in car and she said that Announcers agreed with the “measured” calls. However the 4th “Out of Bounds” call, based on the JumboTron looked like it was missed…
Just finished watching the Heels get “Hurricaned by a Wahoo”. The HAT did not look happy.
Wake County (don’t know about others) is a disaster tonight….now NOT to the extent that the counties that are getting hammered probably are….but Gormon Street was closed between Avent Ferry and I-40….had to re-route. Then drove under a fallen tree and around other downed trees to get home and find (SURPRISE…SURPRISE….S>U>R>P>R>I>S>E) NO power. This is not the usual Neighborhood feeder, but a major one for the Lake Wheeler area. ABC11 is running footage of a High Water rescue on Lake Wheeler road where 3 cars with passengers are trapped. I have driven that stretch many times and NEVER imagined water that high….and I survived Fran.
No cable and Digital OTA Antenna is pixelating…..ODD, though, my ATT Uverse DSL is still functional. Genny is purring (OK, it is a little louder than that…) and we have 120 VAC in the critical circuits…
RDU only (as of this posting) has 6 1/4″ of rain. Lake Wheeler (NCSU Research Farm) has had 8. At 11:00 and Noon hours, it was coming down at an INCH per hour, then tapered off to only 3/4″ for the next two.

ParticipantPosted this on the OTHER thread. IF you want to know what is really going on and what the history of the “rainfall and wind” (along with about anything else about the weather), then use this link. Here is, to me, a very HANDY thing to know if you REALLY want to understand weather.
http://climate.ncsu.edu/cronos?station=REED&temporal=hourly
This is the URL for the CRONOS Weather Database. There are many weather stations in NC…way too many. BUT, NCSU has one up the road at their Lake Wheeler Research Farm location. I use it to see what has happened. I went to the database and found a Reedy Creek station that is very near CF. You can pull down all sorts of into. as of 8:00 this morning, the last 2 hours (the data is hourly) had about 1/4″ of rain (per hour). Wind was light (ave 6 MPH) and a gust of 17 MPH). If you scroll on down on the “request” page, you can actually get the direction….so, I’m good to go…

Participant44,
I woke up this morning (in Raleigh) and listened to the local news. The TV station, where I once worked on and off for 4 years, has more reporters (with their logos) in the field and more “stringers” that will probably attend the game.
I do NOT, under any circumstances, underestimate the critical situation. BUT, for me and most Raleigh fans, going to the game is LESS risky than going to the spring Red/White games. I will point out that there were REALLY severe and close tornado warnings several years ago and they played the whole game and then cancelled the autograph session. Folks DIED after that. If I had not realized, while watching the news at the Wade Avenue Red & White Store, how bad it was, I would have driven into the path of one of the twisters. I drove immediately to my daughter’s house and listed to the TV audio of one headed towards us.
I also noted that the TV station, which has a NEW “NEWS” consultant and new graphics and new promos has added “Bumper” music. Sort of like watching a sequel to Fantasia….remember the dancing brooms. NOW, they have dramatic (with a few crashing cymbals) music to show the “power lines swaying in Roxboro”.
I will make an intelligent decision….I will also get feedback from a very liberal “ditto head” individual who is an NCSU grad with, according to him, superior intelligence and intellect. My question to him is this….IF the female presidential candidate were speaking (under HER shelter) at a high $$ Private Fundraiser today at CF and she, alone, would be under a tornado proof shelter at mid field, would HE take his entire brood there and site for 6 hours waiting for her to appear?
If he answers YES, which I suspect he would….then I, too, shall go and watch my Wolfpack. Napoleon had his advisors and “staff”, I have mine…
For the fans in the Raleigh area, as long as we are given access to the PNC and kept aprised of severe (thunder storms, lightning and tornadoes and such), then I think it will be OK….further east and further south east….don’t know.
Hopefully the stalling will reduce the amount of rainfall….and, thanks to the Rolling Stones, we DO have a brand new, engineering to drain, turf surface. THAT was part of the contract whence they last drug their aged and tortured bodied there….
