Back, and to the Left Game Thread

I ran out of dumpster fire memes, so I went with historical appreciation instead. I suggest talking more about your own take on the assassination and/or your favorite conspiracy theory(ies), rather than the game. Not even sure I will watch, frankly. It’s mind-numbingly stupid that we play this game at all, and I am extremely disappointed in DY for recently extending this series. In the future we will have to explore more deeply what drove that decision because I know from first hand experience that she has not supported the extension of the series.

Today’s sea of purple-clad methheads in C-F is in no way good for our program. But, of course, today’s situation comes to your courtesy of ‘Coach Lee Fowler’ who would’ve done anything in the world he could to put himself in the personal good graces of local politicians and ECU’s well-respected Athletics Director (at the time), Terry Holland. I have to ask how all of that chumming up to others worked out for Fowler, who remains unemployed three years after FINALLY being dismissed from NC State.

ECU can beat NC State and UNC-Chapel Hill in the same season for the first time in school history.

The most exciting sports event of the day, of course, is the Merseyside Derby. Everton scored to level the game at 1-1 in the 8th minute, and have controlled play since. This is what will determine the level of my foul mood for the remainder of the weekend, at least until Broncos/Pats Sunday night.

    Whole lotta Cowbell derpage.

  2. BamaPack 11/23/2013 at 3:33 PM #

I suspect C-F also looks that way because of the clown car product we are putting on the field.

  3. MrPlywood 11/23/2013 at 3:33 PM #

Yeah, she and the Liberals were supposed to have been sent packing in the last provincial election but then she started wearing lower cut tops. I’m kidding. Maybe.

  4. BJD95 11/23/2013 at 3:36 PM #

    Some of both.

TOB was fired because he more or less had stopped recruiting, and wasn’t going to magically start doing better during the unavoidable dumpster fire that is the 2013 season.

  5. BamaPack 11/23/2013 at 3:37 PM #

McMuffins McNeil is still twice the coach that the greenhorn on our sidelines is.

Maybe Lincoln Riley will sit down with Coach Canada for a few teaching moments before they head out of town.

If you would exchange our staff for EZU’s…then there’s just no reasoning with you.

  7. Fastback68 11/23/2013 at 3:39 PM #

21 points. They must be high too.

  8. BJD95 11/23/2013 at 3:40 PM #

Is it embarrassing that EZU has much more talent than us? Absolutely. Is it Doeren’s fault? Abso-fucking-lutely not.

  9. Fastback68 11/23/2013 at 3:41 PM #

:51 seconds to glory. Onside kick!!!

  10. JaxPackMan 11/23/2013 at 3:43 PM #

Too little, too late. Now that ECU is playing their 3rd string and walk-ons…..

Just shows you how weak the team is…

  11. Fastback68 11/23/2013 at 3:47 PM #

    Td!!!!!!!!!!! 5 more seconds.

  12. Wufpacker 11/23/2013 at 3:48 PM #

    Woo Hoo.

Snow (sort of) in South Bend.

  13. BamaPack 11/23/2013 at 3:50 PM #

McNeil has a very solid coaching staff. I don’t think there is any disputing that.

Doeren is a very young energetic guy with a good recruiting staff around him. He needs time to grow into a coach at this level. Until he does, there will be lots of bumps along the way even when the talent is significantly upgraded.

Fans better look at this as a complete rebuild including a coach learning on the job. I’m fine with that, but this hire was 3 steps back to potentially take a leap forward 5 years down the road.

    I’d vote for her.

    She looks smart.

    🙂

    Snow Football!@!!!

I will put up a new thread now, so we can talk about that and other assorted goodness.

  16. wolf71 11/23/2013 at 3:51 PM #

The current lack of talent may not be on DD but a lack of coaching is! Huxtable sucks, even the sorry announcers were wondering if state was ever going to make adjustments and stop giving ecu 7-10 yard cushions on their routes.

  17. BJD95 11/23/2013 at 3:53 PM #

OK, Bama, that is a reasonable view. My apologies for assuming a more extreme meaning than you meant.

Short-term pain, hopefully long-term gain. I would take that over more duct tape and chicken wire.

  18. wolf71 11/23/2013 at 3:53 PM #

Where can I get a job and make 1.75 million a year to learn on it!

  19. BJD95 11/23/2013 at 3:53 PM #

Your scheme options are limited when you have no talent. Again, you will see whether these guys can coach in 2015.

  20. wolf71 11/23/2013 at 3:55 PM #

And by then the dumpster fire may be too big to put out!

  21. BJD95 11/23/2013 at 3:59 PM #

Where can you get such a gig? NC State. We either get unproven guys with upside, or known mediocrities. Anyone else will have MUCH better options.

Facts are facts. We are a mediocre program in the worst major conference in all of college football, with a so-so and overfished natural recruiting pool. Not a job that people line up for.

  22. BamaPack 11/23/2013 at 4:00 PM #

    BJD…no offense taken.

I was half joking about McNeil anyway, though I do think he was a good find for ECU.

  23. charger17 11/23/2013 at 4:00 PM #

First of all BJD, Joe Allen should have put it to bed in the 53rd! Can’t believe my Reds can’t score in the second half any more than they do.

Okay, question for everyone. Is it possible, maybe even probable that this season is going exactly how Doeren wants it to go? I mean, seriously, I’m not saying he’s losing on purpose, but he’s certainly not trying too hard to win. But what can you say against it? I mean, even if he loses all 12 he’s not getting canned. And year two and three (the ones that really matter) are a walk in the park.

Serious question then, is it smart on a coaches part to just coast in his first year?

  24. wolf71 11/23/2013 at 4:05 PM #

    Mediocre is being generous!

  25. BJD95 11/23/2013 at 4:11 PM #

Agreed, Bama. Good fit for their position in the football universe, and nothing wrong with that at all. He will do a good job and likely not be courted to leave. And he smartly puts emphasis on offense, which is what every small-to-midrange program SHOULD do.

Charger – yeah, there were multiple “how the hell did he not score” moments for both teams in the second half. I about lost my shit on Delofeou’s for EFC. Not a game where anyone can feel good about walking away with just one point.
