Pack9 Looks to Close Out Owls, Head to Omaha – Game Two Thread

blockSbaseball

In a game that looked like hopes were dimming (to put it mildly), Wolfpack Baseball was able to scratch out two runs in the bottom of the 9th Saturday to pull out a come from behind victory.  The game winner was of course courtesy of one Mr. Jake Fincher, who pulled the ball hard into left field for the winning RBI single to give the Pack the 4-3 walk off victory.

Hopefully the rest of the team didn’t hurt Jakie too badly as they chased him down post-game.

Of course, none of that matters if Logan Ratledge doesn’t drop a beauty of a bunt, squeezing Brett Williams from third to tie the game at three in the first place.

Check out the highlights below, but beware of Paul LoDuca’s eyebrows…don’t look directly at them….

A shaky Carlos Rodon (which is still better than 95% of the rest of the pitchers out there) kept the Pack close enough but took a no decision.  Josh Easley took the victory (7-2).

Box Score

Saturday’s win put the Wolfpack (48-14) one win away from someplace they haven’t been in 45 years.  Omaha.  Win one of the next two and close out the Owls, and that drought will be broken.

Game Two between the Pack and the Owls gets going at 4pm on Sunday on ESPNU and ESPN3.

Nitpicky details: Pack will be the road team for Sunday’s game.

Tickets Punched

Should the Pack win one of the next two and get to Omaha, two of the teams which would be in their bracket already punched their tickets Saturday night.

UCLA topped CS Fullerton to complete a 2-0 sweep of the Titans on the road and will thus claim the #5 seed slot in Omaha.

Their first round opponent will be the #4 seeded Tigers from LSU, who dispatched Oklahoma in impressive fashion in Baton Rouge to dump the Sooners, 2-0.

Elsewhere Sunday

North vs South – Chapel Hill Game Two – 1pm, ESPN (Heels lead ‘Cocks 1-0)

FSU vs Indiana – Tallahassee Game Two – 1pm, ESPNU (Hoosiers lead ‘Noles 1-0)

Vandy vs ‘Ville – Nashville Game Two – 4pm, ESPN (Cards lead ‘Dores 1-0)

UVa vs Miss.St. – Charlottesville Game Two – 7pm, ESPN2 (Bulldogs lead ‘Hoos 1-0)

Oregon St vs K State – Corvallis Game Two – 10pm, ESPNU (Cats lead Beavers 1-0)

So, use this thread to talk it up on Sunday…really loving the chatter.

We’ll do the same as usual with updates and probably pseudo play x play in the comments.

Let’s Go Pack!!! Close it out TODAY!!!

Jernigan looking strong so far. Lots of healthy arms in the stable if needed. Love the call today.

Avent would have given Harmon Killebrew the sac bunt signal. He’s just that aloof to the difference an out makes per inning.

Jernigan Ks Cook looking to end it.

Aside from the solo jack given up to Stringer, Jernigan looking not half bad so far.

1-0 Rice going to the 4th.

Look at those retro State Baseball pics! Lovin’ that too!

Not that I wouldn’t have liked to see some swings rather than squaring at times…but considering we haven’t been hitting for shit and are still one win away from Omaha….

  12. Texpack 06/09/2013 at 5:13 PM #

Cowdog and VTpack channeling Earl Weaver. Avent is like a football coach who runs the wishbone. He has his way and he sticks with it.

  13. BJD95 06/09/2013 at 5:13 PM #

But Adametz and Fincher HAVE been hitting.

  14. highstick 06/09/2013 at 5:13 PM #

    “Throwbacks” or “Throw Ups”???

  15. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 5:14 PM #

Not Adametz…not lately at least. Fincher yes.

And of course Adametz singles thru the left side as I say that.

    One on two away.

  16. TheAliasTroll 06/09/2013 at 5:15 PM #

Will Avent bunt him over to 2nd with 2 outs???

  17. elvislives 06/09/2013 at 5:16 PM #

Adametz is a grinder. Big ups.

  18. highstick 06/09/2013 at 5:16 PM #

Everytime I see Graham, I think Sparky Anderson has come back! Amazing resemblance!

  19. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 5:18 PM #

Owls’ Stainback boots what should have been out number three…Pack with two on two away now….

Stainback recovers, retires Ratledge 6-3 to end it.

  20. Texpack 06/09/2013 at 5:18 PM #

Yesterday they said Graham played for Casey Stengel. He looks a bit like Casey as well.

  21. TheAliasTroll 06/09/2013 at 5:24 PM #

As opposed to charging the mound I wouldn’t mind seeing Jernigan charge the batter at the plate. No more Mr. Nice Guy.

  22. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 5:24 PM #

4 pitch walk with two outs gives Owls one on two away in the 4th….

  23. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 5:27 PM #

Ratteree picked off first to end it. Going to the 5th.

  24. BJD95 06/09/2013 at 5:28 PM #

Our guys sure do have good pickoff moves!

  25. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 5:28 PM #

‘Ville up on Vandy 2-0 top 4.

    Check that…bottom 4 now.
