Pack9 Looks to Close Out Owls, Head to Omaha – Game Two Thread

blockSbaseball

In a game that looked like hopes were dimming (to put it mildly), Wolfpack Baseball was able to scratch out two runs in the bottom of the 9th Saturday to pull out a come from behind victory.  The game winner was of course courtesy of one Mr. Jake Fincher, who pulled the ball hard into left field for the winning RBI single to give the Pack the 4-3 walk off victory.

Hopefully the rest of the team didn’t hurt Jakie too badly as they chased him down post-game.

Of course, none of that matters if Logan Ratledge doesn’t drop a beauty of a bunt, squeezing Brett Williams from third to tie the game at three in the first place.

Check out the highlights below, but beware of Paul LoDuca’s eyebrows…don’t look directly at them….

A shaky Carlos Rodon (which is still better than 95% of the rest of the pitchers out there) kept the Pack close enough but took a no decision.  Josh Easley took the victory (7-2).

Pack Walks Off, One Step Closer to Omaha (GoPack.com)

Box Score

Saturday’s win put the Wolfpack (48-14) one win away from someplace they haven’t been in 45 years.  Omaha.  Win one of the next two and close out the Owls, and that drought will be broken.

Game Two between the Pack and the Owls gets going at 4pm on Sunday on ESPNU and ESPN3.

Nitpicky details: Pack will be the road team for Sunday’s game.

Tickets Punched

Should the Pack win one of the next two and get to Omaha, two of the teams which would be in their bracket already punched their tickets Saturday night.

UCLA topped CS Fullerton to complete a 2-0 sweep of the Titans on the road and will thus claim the #5 seed slot in Omaha.

Their first round opponent will be the #4 seeded Tigers from LSU, who dispatched Oklahoma in impressive fashion in Baton Rouge to dump the Sooners, 2-0.

Elsewhere Sunday

North vs South – Chapel Hill Game Two – 1pm, ESPN (Heels lead ‘Cocks 1-0)

FSU vs Indiana – Tallahassee Game Two – 1pm, ESPNU (Hoosiers lead ‘Noles 1-0)

Vandy vs ‘Ville – Nashville Game Two – 4pm, ESPN (Cards lead ‘Dores 1-0)

UVa vs Miss.St. – Charlottesville Game Two – 7pm, ESPN2 (Bulldogs lead ‘Hoos 1-0)

Oregon St vs K State – Corvallis Game Two – 10pm, ESPNU (Cats lead Beavers 1-0)

So, use this thread to talk it up on Sunday…really loving the chatter.

We’ll do the same as usual with updates and probably pseudo play x play in the comments.

Let’s Go Pack!!! Close it out TODAY!!!

  4. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 5:38 PM #

Owls’ Aquino leads off bottom 5 with a single thru the left side….moved over with the sac bunt….

    One away, man on 2nd….

  5. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 5:40 PM #

FC 6-3, two away, Aquino moves to third….

Shallow F7 ends it. Still 1-0 Rice going to the 6th.

Time to make some noise this inning.. we need to charge the mound, get both teams into a brawl and let out some of that nervous energy. Then have the kids hit a couple bleacher burners and afterwards break their aluminum bats over their knees. That’s real baseball.

Would be a good time for Senay to say howdy to the trees out beyond RF again….

  8. BJD95 06/09/2013 at 5:46 PM #

If Clyde bunts I think I shall kill myself.

  9. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 5:46 PM #

Four pitch leadoff walk to Senay to start the Pack’s 6th….

  10. BJD95 06/09/2013 at 5:48 PM #

No he does NOT have the option to send Senay.

  11. TheAliasTroll 06/09/2013 at 5:51 PM #

    gotta protect the plate, kid

  12. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 5:53 PM #

Three straight outs wastes the Senay BB. 1-0 Rice mid 6th.

  13. TheAliasTroll 06/09/2013 at 5:54 PM #

you’d think nolan ryan was out there pitching for Rice.. sheesh

  14. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 5:55 PM #

    Must…look…away…from…eyebrows

  15. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 5:56 PM #

DJ Thomas comes on for the Pack to start the 6th….

One out walk, Owls with a man on with one away….

  19. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 6:04 PM #

Two away….Woeck coming on for the Pack….

  20. TheAliasTroll 06/09/2013 at 6:04 PM #

well our bats are deafening.. think we’re gonna have to start leaning in and taking em for the team

  21. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 6:09 PM #

Woeck gets Ratteree to FC 4 unassisted at 2nd to end it.

2-0 Rice, headed to the 7th.

  22. elvislives 06/09/2013 at 6:09 PM #

Gotta get something going this inning. Top 7, good guys down 2-0.

  23. Whiteshoes67 06/09/2013 at 6:12 PM #

Avent just don’t know how to call a game. Rice mistakes, untypical of Graham’s teams, helped out yesterday. Nothing wrong with small ball, if you know how to call & execute it

  24. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 6:12 PM #

Armstrong reaches to leadoff on the misplay comebacker to the pitcher….

Ratledge singles thru the left side, two on, none away, Turner due up…

Possible pitching change for Rice if Graham ever gets to the mound….

  25. BJD95 06/09/2013 at 6:14 PM #

8-9 rally! Can’t ask for more than men on base for Turner.
