Pack9 Looks to Close Out Owls, Head to Omaha – Game Two Thread

blockSbaseball

In a game that looked like hopes were dimming (to put it mildly), Wolfpack Baseball was able to scratch out two runs in the bottom of the 9th Saturday to pull out a come from behind victory.  The game winner was of course courtesy of one Mr. Jake Fincher, who pulled the ball hard into left field for the winning RBI single to give the Pack the 4-3 walk off victory.

Hopefully the rest of the team didn’t hurt Jakie too badly as they chased him down post-game.

Of course, none of that matters if Logan Ratledge doesn’t drop a beauty of a bunt, squeezing Brett Williams from third to tie the game at three in the first place.

Check out the highlights below, but beware of Paul LoDuca’s eyebrows…don’t look directly at them….

A shaky Carlos Rodon (which is still better than 95% of the rest of the pitchers out there) kept the Pack close enough but took a no decision.  Josh Easley took the victory (7-2).

Box Score

Saturday’s win put the Wolfpack (48-14) one win away from someplace they haven’t been in 45 years.  Omaha.  Win one of the next two and close out the Owls, and that drought will be broken.

Game Two between the Pack and the Owls gets going at 4pm on Sunday on ESPNU and ESPN3.

Nitpicky details: Pack will be the road team for Sunday’s game.

Tickets Punched

Should the Pack win one of the next two and get to Omaha, two of the teams which would be in their bracket already punched their tickets Saturday night.

UCLA topped CS Fullerton to complete a 2-0 sweep of the Titans on the road and will thus claim the #5 seed slot in Omaha.

Their first round opponent will be the #4 seeded Tigers from LSU, who dispatched Oklahoma in impressive fashion in Baton Rouge to dump the Sooners, 2-0.

Elsewhere Sunday

North vs South – Chapel Hill Game Two – 1pm, ESPN (Heels lead ‘Cocks 1-0)

FSU vs Indiana – Tallahassee Game Two – 1pm, ESPNU (Hoosiers lead ‘Noles 1-0)

Vandy vs ‘Ville – Nashville Game Two – 4pm, ESPN (Cards lead ‘Dores 1-0)

UVa vs Miss.St. – Charlottesville Game Two – 7pm, ESPN2 (Bulldogs lead ‘Hoos 1-0)

Oregon St vs K State – Corvallis Game Two – 10pm, ESPNU (Cats lead Beavers 1-0)

So, use this thread to talk it up on Sunday…really loving the chatter.

We’ll do the same as usual with updates and probably pseudo play x play in the comments.

Let’s Go Pack!!! Close it out TODAY!!!

The Natural is the greatest baseball movie of all time. Major League is second.

@ elvis…like both of those, but my two favs are Eight Men Out and Field of Dreams, with Bull Durham a close 3rd.

  8. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 4:49 PM #

Byrd steals 3rd, but Jernigan Ks Ewing swinging to end the 2nd with no more damage.

    Still 1-0

  11. BJD95 06/09/2013 at 4:51 PM #

Eight Men Out and Long Gone (for an underrated choice). The Natural was great too, my brother always wore 9 based on Roy Hobbs.

And yes, Rick…there’s no crying in baseball!

I think he mighta performed the bris, actually. Mazel tov!

Total bias with The Natural. My pops and I must have watched that one together 100 times. But that counts for a lot.

Turner leads off the Pack’s 3rd with an infield single to the hole at short….

  14. TheAliasTroll 06/09/2013 at 4:52 PM #

The Rice SS clearly hasn’t paid attention to scouting, why throw there with Turner running?

  15. BJD95 06/09/2013 at 4:52 PM #

    Another bunt. Jeebus.

  16. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 4:52 PM #

Fincher sacs Turner to 2nd, one away….

  17. TheAliasTroll 06/09/2013 at 4:53 PM #

what is the deal with giving away outs.. if we’re gonna bunt then let Turner steal, then bunt him over

  18. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 4:53 PM #

Indeed it does elvis, indeed it does.

  19. BJD95 06/09/2013 at 4:54 PM #

Speaking of which, loved Archer’s homage to “The Natural” this past season.

  20. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 4:55 PM #

Austin F8’s…no advance by Turner, two away…
