Pack9 Looks to Close Out Owls, Head to Omaha – Game Two Thread

blockSbaseball

In a game that looked like hopes were dimming (to put it mildly), Wolfpack Baseball was able to scratch out two runs in the bottom of the 9th Saturday to pull out a come from behind victory.  The game winner was of course courtesy of one Mr. Jake Fincher, who pulled the ball hard into left field for the winning RBI single to give the Pack the 4-3 walk off victory.

Hopefully the rest of the team didn’t hurt Jakie too badly as they chased him down post-game.

Of course, none of that matters if Logan Ratledge doesn’t drop a beauty of a bunt, squeezing Brett Williams from third to tie the game at three in the first place.

Check out the highlights below, but beware of Paul LoDuca’s eyebrows…don’t look directly at them….

A shaky Carlos Rodon (which is still better than 95% of the rest of the pitchers out there) kept the Pack close enough but took a no decision.  Josh Easley took the victory (7-2).

Box Score

Saturday’s win put the Wolfpack (48-14) one win away from someplace they haven’t been in 45 years.  Omaha.  Win one of the next two and close out the Owls, and that drought will be broken.

Game Two between the Pack and the Owls gets going at 4pm on Sunday on ESPNU and ESPN3.

Nitpicky details: Pack will be the road team for Sunday’s game.

Tickets Punched

Should the Pack win one of the next two and get to Omaha, two of the teams which would be in their bracket already punched their tickets Saturday night.

UCLA topped CS Fullerton to complete a 2-0 sweep of the Titans on the road and will thus claim the #5 seed slot in Omaha.

Their first round opponent will be the #4 seeded Tigers from LSU, who dispatched Oklahoma in impressive fashion in Baton Rouge to dump the Sooners, 2-0.

Elsewhere Sunday

North vs South – Chapel Hill Game Two – 1pm, ESPN (Heels lead ‘Cocks 1-0)

FSU vs Indiana – Tallahassee Game Two – 1pm, ESPNU (Hoosiers lead ‘Noles 1-0)

Vandy vs ‘Ville – Nashville Game Two – 4pm, ESPN (Cards lead ‘Dores 1-0)

UVa vs Miss.St. – Charlottesville Game Two – 7pm, ESPN2 (Bulldogs lead ‘Hoos 1-0)

Oregon St vs K State – Corvallis Game Two – 10pm, ESPNU (Cats lead Beavers 1-0)

So, use this thread to talk it up on Sunday…really loving the chatter.

We’ll do the same as usual with updates and probably pseudo play x play in the comments.

Let’s Go Pack!!! Close it out TODAY!!!

I think we should go with Stone to be honest. He’s deserves it-has had more quality outings so far.

Hoosiers Jumping on FSU early, 4-0 in the 2nd.

‘Cocks draw first blood in Chapel Hill, up 1-0 still batting in the 2nd.

LOL ‘foose, you starting early and building up reverse mojo credit?

  9. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 1:49 PM #

    Make that 5-0 ‘Cocks…still batting.

Looks almost like batting practice with Hobbsy.

Hobbsy’s day is done, doesn’t make it out of the 2nd.

EDIT – Hobbsy looks pissed. Ain’t like summer school is it?

    ‘Noles get 2 back, 4-2 mid 2nd..

‘Cocks carry a 5-0 spot into the 3rd.

6-0 ‘Cocks, bottom 4th, still batting.

Taylore and his cherries coming on.

Indiana now up 5-2 on FSU in the 4th.

6-0 Chickens after 4 straight walks by Hovis. Cherry coming on in relief. Hopefully SCar pops him. Bases loaded, 1 away.

I thought our uniforms were ugly yesterday..The Holes are wearing things designed by Arlo Guthrie and Grace Slick!

Agreed ‘stick. Those are pretty bad. Carolina blue digital camo is just…well, choose your own descriptor.

Dude, I didn’t heed your warning on the eyebrows. You weren’t kidding. They’re like a prize fighter: bobbing and weaving and then the hard jab with the right.

I tried so hard to stay awake till the end of the game, but when down sometime in the 7th. Hate I missed that ending. Wish they were in the 1:00 slot.

  17. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 2:46 PM #

@PIR….Almost 11pm at your place about now, yes?

Come on Russkie, start hitting the potato vodka in the 3rd tonite instead of breakfast, and you’ll be all good.

  19. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 2:53 PM #

‘Cocks now up 8-0 going to the 6th.

‘Noles tie it up with Hoosiers 5-5, heading to bottom 5.

Stick, now come on…the 83 White Sox would love those unis. Winning Ugly INDEED!

FWIW, I love those new unis, but I also enjoy the White Sox wearing their throwbacks on Sundays this year…I just don’t like the results.

FSU ties it up on a literal s**t load of walks and hit batters. Also, Mike Martin is the Mr. Rogers of college baseball. He sounds like he wants to install a rocking chair in the dugout.

  21. packpowerfan 06/09/2013 at 2:57 PM #

Schrock has 3 errors in two games against the Holes. He had 4 the entire regular season.

  22. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 3:00 PM #

Hoosiers now up 7-5..still batting in the 5th.

  23. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 3:01 PM #

I’m checking out for a few mins…gotta get my eats on.

  24. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 3:49 PM #

FSU looking down the barrel of getting swept by IU. 8-5 going to the 8th (Probably another ESPNNews start for the Pack, btw).

Heels still getting spanked by ‘Cocks (I’m not even touching that one)…down to their last 2 outs in the 9th, still down 8-0.

  25. Wufpacker 06/09/2013 at 3:52 PM #

SCar forces game three tomorrow in Chapel Hill…8-0 Final.
