WRAL:

Getting into the NCAA tournament is the hard part for North Carolina State.

Winning a first game? Not that difficult, apparently.

Richard Howell doubled his average with 22 points, and 11th-seeded North Carolina State used its muscle inside and sticky defense to upset San Diego State 79-65 on Friday in a second-round East Regional game.

Got a decent look, just couldn’t knock it down.

Has Haith now peaked in year one?

No problem at all with the CJW dunk. Walk-off dunks such as this used to be the norm as a team put the icing on a big game, and nobody thought much of it. Now, everyone in this pansy world is worried about hurting someone’s feelings. SDSU is not playing rec league…so play to the buzzer. Anyway, who cares… We won – convincingly. Big time game by State. This feels real good…and Im sure that dunk felt real good to CJW.

    Great ‘brackets’ tie from Sager.

Really happy for that O’Quinn kid.

Yeah, Haith’s honeymoon is officially over. Gotta love Kyle O’Quinn, too.

“We don’t drink. We don’t smoke. Norfolk! Norfolk!”

  13. Wufpacker 03/16/2012 at 6:37 PM #

So I guess a biliken is something like a grinch?

  14. BJD95 03/16/2012 at 6:39 PM #

Yes, their chant is also pretty badass. Have to love the pep bands fromn the historically black colleges, too. I can’t play an instrument or dance, seeing both concurrently blows my honky mind.

    Billiken equals nightmare fuel, apparently.

Their coach stole every kids lunch

    LOL

  18. Rick 03/16/2012 at 6:42 PM #

what were they saying in the chant?

great game but the end took too long

  19. BJD95 03/16/2012 at 6:46 PM #

The chant I had heard before was the “we don’t drink, we don’t smoke, Norfolk! Norfolk”

In context, and pronounced like the locals, that sounds very much like “Nor f-ck!” 🙂

It’s all a matter of perspective. To the outside world, the dunk(s) were not in good taste. But to us, given the uphill battle, it was a release of so much pent up anger. We get it, others don’t. CJW is a great kid and he deserves a break.

As for the upcoming brawl with G’town, all I have to say is we better bring it. They are very good. They defend the three extremely well, and I don’t think we will have our way down low like we have in the past few games. Going to take a complete game to beat the Hoyas. We’re playing extremely well, so there is no reason to think we can’t do it.

When I imagine playing Georgetown, memories of playing Florida State come to mind.

  23. BJD95 03/16/2012 at 6:50 PM #

I think this was our best game of the season. Hopefully, we have another similar effort in us. Today’s effort will produce a win, but can’t afford to play more than a scintilla worse. Tall order.

The dunk was not unsportsmanlike… there was still at least 20 seconds on the clock, and we weren’t up by 20 or 30. He did not taunt, stare, or do anything overly showy. You could certainly say he could have laid it in or pulled the ball back out, but seriously, this is splitting hairs. The tourney is an emotional time, and both teams handled themselves well as amateur student athletes.

Nantz and Kellogg at it again. Sucking all of the excitement out of the gymnasium.
