WRAL:

Getting into the NCAA tournament is the hard part for North Carolina State.

Winning a first game? Not that difficult, apparently.

I presume we’ll be one of the earlier games of the day on Sunday. Anyone know when tip times will be announced?

to beat Gtown we are going to have to play smart, very smart. They are big and atheltic and can shoot. They could hurt us early. Its nothing be uphill from here. If we play our defense well and stay out of foul trouble we should be in it til the end.

What a great feeling to beat a quality team on a neutral court with competent officiating (an SEC crew). SDSU created serious matchup problems, and we responded well. That is called COACHING fellas, and it is something we haven’t seen in a while. By the way, it is worth noting that the coach we defeated is highly accomplished and highly acclaimed, and Gott gott the best of him. Proof that the coaching universe actually extends beyond RoyBoy and K, and we have a star of our own.

    Steve Fisher after the game:

“It’s one thing to be big,” San Diego State coach Steve Fisher said. “It’s another thing to be big and good. And they were big and good. Obviously, Richard Howell was great for them and got them out of the gate. He was fantastic.”

I am one of the ones that voted that we go all the way. ALL THE WAY BABY!!!!

I was disappointed in the late dunk, but even more in the State radio network guys’ reaction to that dunk: “Well, why not? He’s a senior.” It would be hard to imagine hearing that from Bill Jackson or Wally Ausley.

I bet most State fans weren’t pleased when Indiana dunked on us at the buzzer back in December. Hopefully, the next time we get a chance to rub it in, we’ll show a little more class.

I agree that the dunk at the end is something you don’t want to see, but I think it is always good to remember that these are basically kids out there. Overall, I am very impressed with the level of maturity and sportsmanship.

you know what, almost 4 years of playing by CJ Williams and it has been nothing but crap. Coming in next to last in the ACC every year. Losing and losing and losing and losing. Being the doormat for UNC/DOOK/etc etc. Not even going to the NIT last year. I know he did it, but you know what, I am going to give it to him.

Well, it looks like Norfolk will at least cover the spread and I will be 4-for-4 on my bad gambling advice (Cincy, Creighton, and the Bonnies already covered).

  18. vtpackfan 03/16/2012 at 5:56 PM #

Uhhh……the dunk. Maybe he was just testing the ankle out “see Coach, nothing to worry bout”. Moving on as in third round.

  19. wufpup76 03/16/2012 at 5:57 PM #

It’s Norfolk’s turn to get absolutely screwed.

And hey look – it’s Brian Dorsey!

  20. wufpup76 03/16/2012 at 5:58 PM #

    Fantastic effort from Norfolk St.

  21. BJD95 03/16/2012 at 5:59 PM #

    Get ’em, Norfolk!

I really did predict that in one of my 3 office pool entries. 🙂

  22. BJD95 03/16/2012 at 6:09 PM #

    Well…Norfolk almost had ’em.

  23. wufpup76 03/16/2012 at 6:10 PM #

    B. Dorsey is seething that he didn’t get an opportunity to cross the court and make a wtf? call there.

  24. BJD95 03/16/2012 at 6:11 PM #

Gotta love their coach. He’s one cool cat. Time to D up, Spartans!!

    OK,

Just got back to the room. Trying to find WHEN the game is on Sunday. Here are some observations from Columbus.

WPC tickets were GREAT. We had about 500 tickets sold according to the folks at will call. Seats were in the lower section about the foul line and directly across from the NCSU bench.

The ref’s calls, based on an “unbiased” opinion were actuall FAVORABLE to STATE. I think they actually missed a few on us. Seemed to be consistent. They let us play. NOW, this is from a fan’s perspective in the seats, not quite on the floor, but not that far up.

Coach Gottfied and TWO other assistant coaches wore LIGHT BLUE shirts. Have emailed (tongue in cheek) Debbie Yow about this before and she says she is “working on it”.

Team looked a little tenative, but then got in the rhythm. Never showed lack of poise.

Scott Wood had a very nice contingent of fans there in White Wood Jerseys with #15 on the back. Lots of good down to earth folks. Probably were 15 to 20 or so.

Coach Gottfried saluted the crowd when he came out to watch the GT-Blmt game. Sort of took a bow, but interacted with everyone. He then sat down in front of the fans with Lutz and another assistant and watched the first half of the game.

Coach Gottfied came up into the stands at half time and collected his wife, kids and contingent and was very personable.

Corchiana was sitting directly behind the WP Radio Network folks on the FIRST row. Talked to him during a timeout and he promised to be GOOD. He signed a LOT of autographs.

    C. J. Willimas family was there and the fans were very nice to them. As to the CWJ Dunk. He had a few points and had done a GREAT JOB on defense. He was in the clear and looked at the bench and got the NOD. He THEN took the dunk. Again, he was very poised and cool about it. The DUNK was a reward from Coach G.

Does ANYONE know WHEN the Sunday game is on and what channel. We are staying and working on reservations for a stop along the way back to RALEIGH.

NCSTATE fans were LOUD (voice hurts). WE WERE HEARD. The ABG (Anybody But Georgetown) fans rocked the arena during the second half.

GREAT GAME. Folks up here are very complimentary (as they take our southern $$’s) about our fan base. Too MANY teams with STATE and RED. (OSU, NCSU, SDSU) plus one other team in RED.

    GO PACK….
