Getting into the NCAA tournament is the hard part for North Carolina State.

Winning a first game? Not that difficult, apparently.

Kellogg was a dynamic fresh voice. 20 years ago.

Duke losing to Lehigh would be the icing. One can dream right?

  3. Wulfpack 03/16/2012 at 7:02 PM #

Yes, G’town is a lot like FSU, but more consistent. Howell, Calvin and Painter will have their work cut out for them. Need them on the floor and not in the chairs.

    “Haith honeymoon over” haha
So what if we did the opposite (modest season, big tourney), whose fans would be happier? Oh yeah, Wolfpack in the houuuuuuuuuuuuse!!!

CJW could not have pulled the ball back out. The shot clock was expiring just as he shot. I understand folks who have a problem with what he did, and perhaps dunking was insensitive (as if I gave a crap about that), but his choice was score or turn the ball over.

  6. Wufpacker 03/16/2012 at 7:14 PM #

Dang…did they let any fans in for the Purdue/StMarys game?

  7. BJD95 03/16/2012 at 7:16 PM #

I still do not like the dunk. CJW has built up enough sportsmanship cred that I won’t beat him up over it. But I don’t like it, when you have a team beat and they quit actively defending…you let the clock run, unless you’re a walk-on that never gets a chance to score, etc.

I hope our team doesn’t make a habit out of it.

Jeebus. A Rivers just tackled that dude. No call, of course. Duke ball.

  9. Wulfpack 03/16/2012 at 7:20 PM #

The dunk is the type of thing you expect out of a UNC, not a blue collar respect your opponent squad like us. I understand we are trying to change the mentaility around here but that is not necessarily the way to do it. The game was over. No harm in letting the clock run out, or just a simple lay-up. Then he follows it up with one right after the buzzer. Not what I expect out of a kid like CJW. Again, I get it. This is new to these guys. But we also have to start to act like we belong as well.

I didn’t notice the shot clock expiring. That would make me feel better about it. Not GREAT, but much better.

  11. Wufpacker 03/16/2012 at 7:23 PM #

Yeah, if he had it to do over again I suspect he’d pass on the dunk and just lay it in. Honestly, I would have been fine if he took the shot clock violation, but I can understand why that might not even enter his mind as an acceptable option, even at that point.

  12. redcanine 03/16/2012 at 7:26 PM #

I don’t like the “piling on” either. However, I like the mindset to keep attacking. I’ll give CJW the benefit of the doubt on this one.

On a slightly different note, I’m glad that he had enough lift to get up there after rolling his ankle. Looks like he’ll be okay.

Not sure what all the fuss was about, the shot clock was expiring. It def wasnt henson-like.

  14. Wufpacker 03/16/2012 at 7:37 PM #

    23 wins, btw.

  15. Rick 03/16/2012 at 7:56 PM #

The shot clock was not expiring but I have no problem with the dunk.

  16. Rick 03/16/2012 at 8:01 PM #

LeHigh looks good. That guard they have is quick.

I wonder if Bilas is going to talk about Plumlee complaining on nearly every play. Yeah right.

Any way to find out who is reffing this game? It is being called very ACC like

  17. Wufpacker 03/16/2012 at 8:04 PM #

You sure Rick? I could have sworn I heard the horn as he hit the shot and looked in time to see it still at zero before being reset.

  18. Rick 03/16/2012 at 8:36 PM #

    I am pretty sure

Shot clock on CJW’s DUNK was still, if I remember correctly, was around 10 or so. As I said earlier, he got the “nod” from the bench, or so it looked to both me and my wife and the fans around us.

Coach G. just tied Les Robinson’s record. He is the only coach, as of late, that went to the NCAA his FIRST year. Robinson’s team (JV’s guys) won the first round and were defeated in the second.

Hopefully Coach G. will set a NEW record on Sunday.

    What a great experience today.

DUKE IS DOWN….in GREENSBORO! Did you see the LOOK on Swofford’s face as the cameras panned the team’s handshake. He looked like he just found out that his girl friend is pregnant with TWINS and is going to announce it at the Final Four? WHAT A LOOK. WHAT A VICTORY?

    GO PACK!

Just watched the after game presser (link in this thread earlier). Gottfried is a master of that medium. All the right answers, swatted the obligatory “irrational fans” question back to the questioner. Richard and Lorenzo were point blank and matter of fact. I commend watching this for everyone.

  22. 61Packer 03/16/2012 at 9:34 PM #

I cannot imagine any Duke loss that would upset John Swofford deep down.

  23. ADVENTUROO 03/16/2012 at 9:52 PM #

    61Packer,

I agree with your logic, but the camera don’t lie (WJC did, but that’s another story). If you DVR’ed, then run the handshake bit. He had the MOST disgusted and perplexed look you could image. If I didn’t know better, he looked like he had just dropped a BUNDLE on the game. He certainly did NOT look like a Powerball Winner.

As others have said, what a GREAT DAY for STATE. Only THREE ACC teams in the NCAA Third Round. Two of them have NC in their name and the other has Florida. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Gotta wonder if retirement is looking a bit sweeter to Coach K. He certainly can’t still be working this hard becuase he needs the money?

Good gosh folks. Nothing wrong with Cj’s dunk. It is defense’s job to stop them
