Pack/Wahoos Open Thread

Today is the first of the Pack’s three remaining realistic shots (along with BC and the Holes) to win an ACC game. TOB would be advised to win all three if he wants to retire next year instead of next month. More importantly, a loss today would effectively end the season. See you kids this afternoon.

A W is a W; let’s try to get healthy and load up for next week-RW is looking suddenly less than perfect against Sparty and the hole meltdown(s) at Idiot Central are quite entertaining-the firing squad has formed up in a circle and is blazing away…

Ok. Half at wisc and MSU. Cant believe what I am seeing. 2nd half will b different.

Great win today pack!!!! As my Clemson grad wide says, you QB is awesome but your wr’s suck! Could not agree more. Go Wilson.

Hell. D looked great..makes you wonder how we would have been if we had sweezey slay and manning all year. Glennon was absolutely on fire early.

Go State!!! Michigan State that is. Up 8 at halftime lil’ RW threw an interception in the red zone guess the rest of American has never seen that before but I have.

“…you QB is awesome but your wr’s suck!”

Sometimes women have the best insight in sports. My mother used to say, after watching State basketball lose, the other team just had more heart. This simple but profound statement after I had groaned about rebounding or turnovers or whatever.

This thread was hilarious to read after the game. BJD’s rubber band commentary shifting gradually to positive then depressed, then almost positive, depressed was worth it.

RW just missed a wide open tight end for a TD. Musburger’s first time seeing him make a bad throw on the run, so he says. Obviously didn’t watch him the past 3 years. RW had a poor completion percentage. High 50s IIRC. Great college QBs are high 60s.

Ugly, desparate win, but I will take it.

However, I really hate Bible’s scheme, play calling, timidity, coaching of WRs, you name it, I don’t like it.

We actualy tried a few screens to the RB, one reverse, and ran the same counter play a dozen times after UVa figured it out and stopped it dead the last 12 times.

I hate playing not to lose, but that is TOB’s mantra. I think it rubs off on our players as well.

The only time TOB gets excited is when a player shows off a little, like Underwoods. Good lord, TOB he didn’t do much. Get a life. UVa guys did much more. Show some positive emotion and get our guys into the game instead of walking the sideline like a zombie the whole game. It is no wonder you can’t recruit. You got no heart.

for some reason i dont know we keep getting freaking hurt. I mean a concussion in warmups WTF. Also we can never seem to start off a game right. We start to do good later in the game

  10. choppack1 10/22/2011 at 9:49 PM #

Like most quarterbacks rw struggles when pressured…but he won’t quit

  11. bTHEredterror 10/22/2011 at 9:50 PM #

“We actualy tried a few screens to the RB….”

And I have never been so glad, although, because they haven’t run it much, Glennon didn’t know to throw it at the RBs feet if the D sniffs it out. A very important play to add to the arsenal with this teams limited running ability and iffy pass-pro.

Most of these comments pre-game are pitiful. Have some confidence in our team – good grief. We spent more time discussing the awesomeness of hooville than cheering on the pack. “never give up” ever heard of it?

  13. bTHEredterror 10/22/2011 at 11:16 PM #

And what exactly did you see to inspire confidence? I had a hope they could keep it close based on the small improvements, but they have done nothing, until now, to inspire any confidence. As far as never give up, who did?

Been a long time since I have been to Charlottesville, but I just had the feeling we were gonna win. Congrats to the team on their win, even with all the dropped passes., which cost us more points. Feel bad for the fans of UVA parked by U Hall. The walk to the stadium was ridiculous. But at least I got to walk it on the winning side. Now we have to take care FSU. We can! Pull that off, and we return home to play the tarholes.

It sounds like a few people are hating on Wilson. That’s ridiculous.

My wife and I sure picked a good road game to attend. Thanks for winning, Pack!

I’m just curious, after half the season had eclipsed and after we didn’t get back most of the injured players we expected back after the bye, what indications did you see that we had the capability to win even one ACC game? There’s never give up then there’s denial.

Even after today’s win, I don’t see any team left on the schedule that we should be favored against, even BC. I’m not saying we’ll lose them all, but any wins will be a bonus in my mind. Today’s game was two bad teams where the winner was out-sucked by the other.

^ You started to see it vs GT. However, GT isnt looking very good anymore.

  19. triadwolf 10/23/2011 at 9:59 AM #

I agree we’re getting better, but I see a big talent gap. Even without the injuries we seemed to be out manned in total. We have some nice players, even some exceptional ones, but overall we just don’t seem to have the horses. Reminds me a little of the O’Cain years; find a few really good players, but overall not enough talent to win consistently.

Throw in the injuries in addition, and we really struggle to compete with any Div. 1 school.

  20. mak4dpak 10/23/2011 at 1:54 PM #

No one gave us a chance at UVA. Then we win, and still it isn’t good enough for some. I have not been happy with the season, but I went to UVA, and was proud of the performance overall, as the defense shut down UVA, pretty much, especially on the ground. Give them some credit, and instead of discrediting UVA. Like anybody could have done that against UVA. Not so! Hopefully we get the same performance against FSU, and if we win that, will the team finally get some credit? When they are bad I will call them out, but by the same token, when they are good, then credit is due. Good game! Go Pack!

  21. choppack1 10/23/2011 at 7:16 PM #

    mak4dpack – I agree. I saw a team yesterday that was well-prepared.

I saw a defense that looked as good as our D looked last year. Like I said in an earlier post – the fair question here is:
If Sweezey, Slay and Manning had been healthy all year, would our D have looked like this?

As bad as UVa looked passing, they HAD to pass for a reason. They had to pass because we totally shut down the run.

If you can’t enjoy a game like yesterday’s…well, I don’t know what you can enjoy as a sports fan, and you should probably pick a different team. NOT because you’re a fair weather fan – only because an in-conference road victory is NEVER a given for any Wolfpack team against an opponent not-named Duke. (Boy that’s a terrible sentence.)

  22. Wolfacct 10/23/2011 at 8:02 PM #

The Wolfpack team I saw yesterday was much improved. Granted, the receivers dropped numerous catchable balls, but overall the team looked good. Defense contained the QB, shut down the running game, and forced UVA into allot of 3rd and longs. UVA is not a good passing team, and we forced them to throw the ball. Glennon looked sharp, and the O-line held their own and opened some holes for the running backs. An ACC road win will instill confidence in the team, which they were lacking in the first half of the season. Go Pack!

  23. rtpack24 10/23/2011 at 8:57 PM #

Amerson needs to play wide receiver, he has better hands than any of our receivers on offense.

  24. Ashman87 10/23/2011 at 11:59 PM #

I wasn’t able to watch the game, but from what I’ve heard and read, our defense gave its best performance of the year. This is really good because hopefully it will set the tone for the second half of the year. This week’s game with FSU is really intriguing. I only wish the game were at Carter-Finley because I think the homecrowd could push the Pack over the top, i.e. last year.

  25. tjfoose1 10/24/2011 at 9:20 AM #

I hope you all are right, but I saw atrocious play from UVA QB’s, not great play from our defense.

UVA coaches must not have watched film from our UCF game last year (or any recent game against a good running QB). I was happily surprised they didn’t call more designed runs for Watford.

Maryland’s new starting QB sure can run though, and their coaches won’t be shy about utilizing that.
