Fans Voice Ticketing And Entry Concerns (Updated 10:15 am)

First, you need to read this previous entry as a de facto “part one” to today’s entry. We wanted to thank Pack Pride for continuing to focus on the issues of simple game-day execution at Carter-Finley. On Sunday, PP ran a great entry from Scott Vogelsburg (formerly of The Wolfpacker) and in today’s “Observations” from the game the website penned the following:

Student seating an issue: The powers that be need to address the issue with the students being seated before the game. With four minutes to go in the fourth quarter, students were still filing into Carter-Finley Stadium. While some may argue that the students should just get to the game earlier, why should they be subjected to having to enter the game an hour and a half before kickoff just to get seated when other fans can sit in the parking lot until 15 minutes before the start of the game. Our students are also a huge part of the excitement and noise in the stadium and the seating issue needs to be addressed to work out the kinks

What I don’t understand is why it has taken so long for this to become a oublic issue? IT’S ABOUT TIME!!

I first noticed the ridiculous student lines on the first night of the 2005 season when Virginia Tech visited Raleigh for the Sunday night game on ESPN. It was amazing. The line went on as far as the eye could see. The story that I remember is that by HALFTIME, the students got so tired of waiting in line that they just rushed security and let themselves in. That was pening night of Vaughn Towers…which, OF COURSE, led to long lines entering the stadium and even longer lines to use the limited number of elevators that are required to transport people to their seats in the towers.

Similar to Kim Nelson in this article…I have been a season ticket holder since the day I graduated college in 1993. I have had lifetime rights since the first day the Wolfpack Club & NC State re-prioritized football and basketball. As I said in this related entry, “the author of this piece attended approximately twenty NC State home and away football games in a four year period while living in Houston, TX.” Despite my long-term history of going to NC State football games regardless of our performance on the field…I did NOT attend Saturday’s game despite the convenient start time in relation to my two and half hour drive from Charlotte.

My absence had NOTHING to do with State’s struggles on the field. It had everything to do with my growing discontent for the way NC State treats the people of whom they constant ask so much. I am tired of it. I am tired of:

* struggling through ridiculous lines just to get into the stadium

* not having enough restroom facilities on the East side (what happened to the Carter-Finely expansion?)

* not knowing what time I am allowed to drive to the parking spot for which I have to pay

* concessions that don’t have enough water, and

* watching our students have the fun (and future donations and support!) sucked out of them while being treated like shit in long lines with ridiculous policies.

Is Tom Stafford running gameday operations, as well?

Raucous crowds still enter the wolves’ den for every home game, selling out the stadium and giving all they have in an attempt to spur State on to victory.

The diehard nature of Wolfpack Nation is one reason why reports of difficulties entering games are so hard to understand. For a squad in dire need of every ounce of support it can get, alumni and students expect a grateful administration that aims to make their game-day experience as enjoyable as possible. But for some fans, some recent situations have called into question how dedicated NC State is to this goal.

BTW, at right tackle, not only is our starter a walk-on…so is the second-stringer. We’ve also got walk-ons at FB and DT now.

Someone tell me again about all this “talent?”

^But Noah, don’t remember all of those ‘great’ Amato recruiting classes?!?!

i’m not a shill for them but get a sattellite dish. most are installed free and you pay the same or less for programming.

and yes the old men in the red coats would do a much better job.

correct, Kline was redshirted in 2005 and did not play in 2006. However, Noah, the official ncstate roster has him listed as 6-6 315. The most telling stat from scout.com is his 5.3 40 time. That’s like, if Andre Brown was carrying a piano.

back to the blog topic, why don’t all u guys call into the coach’s show tonight and have that be like the issue that is mostly brought up. I like when people call the coach’s and give them advice, enough of that, tell TOB you’d at least like to see the game in a reasonable time to be able to judge the product on the field.

Tell me again why assigned seating for students doesn’t work? When I was there, you went to Reynolds Monday morning and got your ticket. If you had a group of 7 or more, you could get block seating. No fuss, no muss. Going in the student gate was the same as any other gate except you had to show your ID and ticket. It seems like everything is much worse since they tried to make it easier.

Listen, with 4 minutes to go in the 4th qter if students were still filing in for the 1st time they should have their status changed from “full time student” to “Special Students” (ie Short Bus for those in Pittsboro).
The game was more than over long before then.
Are you trying to tell me someone waited in line from kickoff until 4 minutes in the 4th to get in?! I’m calling BS on that if for no other reason no one could stand in line for 3 hours without going to the bathroom.
If they did then their sanity needs to be questioned.

We are all frustrated with the team, the coaches, and mainly the Administration.
There are plenty of legitimate concerns without listening to whinny brats bitch.
I go to the games and go by and pick up my middle son who is a senior and he never has those kind of problems.

    My suggestion:
    – don’t stay at F-bomb Alley drinking until kick off.
    – get a life

And Kim Nelson, I have no clue as to what you’re talking about. I been going to games since 1976, walk right in and other than at half time, don’t have too much of a problem getting in the John in a reasonable amount of time.
And water? This might come as a shock to you children but that stadium has been there since 1966 and the sale of bottled water is a relatively new thing, probably no more than 15 years. Get over it! Drink diet Coke.
By the looks of most of you, you didn’t get in that shape drinking bottled water all the time!

joe is right. UNX has a bad AD, too.
    who hired him? he’s gone.
    who’s “retires” next?

    now…back to blog topic:
    death does that.
dead people change the way live people do things.
CF’s security was so bad, the pendelum has swung
too far the other way. deal with the reality.
it takes me 6 times as long to go through airport
security compared to 8 years ago. so students….
be prepared to take off your shoes and dump your water.

I’m with you, Wolfman Dave…picking up the tickets at the Reynolds box office worked well for years….yet another case of “technological innovation” actually driving a bad “solution” to a situation that never was a problem to start with…i.e. “gee, we spent a gazillion dollars on this All Campus Card and computer card reader technology…wouldn’t it be cool if students could just show up at the stadium and flash a card? Bozos…

I’m a little late to this thread but I want share my observations as well.

In the north endzone towards the east side (section 1), there was a Barney-look-a-like police officer strutting around a 2-liter bottle of pepper spray. Did anyone else see this guy? It looked like a fire extinguisher but the content was pepper spray, as the the officer proudly displayed the label to the stands. This was in the 4th quarter and the students in the section nearby were anything but rowdy. Completely unnecessary.

The most alarming observation – I counted 37 police officers surrounding the field on Saturday. 37 ARMED police officers! This is in addition to the contracted security vendors, of which I counted 24. A total of 61 security personnel on the field, 37 of which are armed. How in the world is this necessary?? I have photos that illustrate this lunacy if SFN is interested.
