ParticipantIn a more capitalist and domestically-related sports story that I’m certain most of you are following, former Wolfpacker Carl Pettersson is having a bit of a rough go at it in the Northern Trust Open at Riviera CC at Pacific Palisades today. Starting this morning on the back nine, Carl birdied the first hole but bogeyed 3 of the next five for a backside 2 over 38 making him 3 over for the tournament. After making the turn, Carl birdied number one but gave it right back with a bogey on number two. He remains 2 over for the day and 3 over for the tournament with seven holes remaining. It’s been somewhat of a struggle for Carl this season having missed the cut 4 times in 9 events. His World Golf Ranking is 192 and he is 116th in the FedEx Cup standings.

ParticipantSo impressed by the young men in the paint tonight. They showed heart. And the young man Barber showed once again that he is, in fact, an ACC point guard. Credit Gott with plugging in the best lineup at the right times.. No, it ain’t over and there are battles to be fought, but tonight the naysayers can enjoy some baked crow for dinner…eat heartily and enjoy..Don’t ever give up…

ParticipantCritical to the outcome of the game or not, I still nominate Nolte for an Oscar… I thought that some pigmy cannibal hit him with a poisonous blow dart…

Participant^Indeed. I had the unfortunate experience of watching my Dad progress through the stages of Dementia. He was a brilliant man, well known in his business, and a Wolfpack alumni (Class of 1952). He passed away in 2011 at age 84. I shall never forget the insane cruelty of the disease, and the despair and helplessness, especially in the latter stages of the ordeal. It was an ordeal for both the man, and those who loved him. I wish that upon no one, absolutely no one.
My thoughts and prayers for Coach Smith’s family. May they find peace.

ParticipantTotally agree with 13OT. Calling the other 7 “legends of the ACC” is ridiculous. An extension of that logic would be for the ACC to lay claim to Louisville’s 3 national championships and Syracuse’s lone title. And of course, Maryland’s championship could now be claimed by the Big 10, and so on…

ParticipantSpeaking of gambling, Vegas consensus has the Irish as a 1.5 favorite. State is 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games, and 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games following a straight up loss. State has not won back to back games SU since beating Wake on 12-6 and Charleston Southern on 12-12. Since that victory over the Buccaneers, State has alternated wins and losses, and if these trends continue, State should get the W tonight both SU and ATS.

Participant^Indeed, an incredible finish. I thought the foul on TCU with .9 left was very dubious…Exciting game though.

ParticipantComrade BJD95vinski, what is up with the serious hard-on for the State of Floridistan? We are good comrades down here, that work our shovel-ready jobs everyday without a complaint, and adhere to the party line at all times. We keep the Party’s agriculture equipment and collective farms running 24 hours a day so that the People may have an abundance of beets, potatoes, and ultimately, vodka to nourish their bodies and Party-loving minds. Perhaps a show trial looms in your future for denouncing the great Floridistan Oblast, and its wealth of Party-patriotic proles. I denounce you for denouncing your fellow comrades who endlessly toil for the Party’s sake and for the sake of next Tuesday. Perhaps a trip to the Engel’s Treatment Center awaits you.

Participant^yes, just imagine. Imagine that this is a maturity moment for him, and he begins to understand his role, and not only his role in the game, but in the bigger game, and he figures out how to deal with that role. He’s young, but I think he might have grown up in the last week. I wish the best for him. A-Rod will test him..

Participant^ good assessment Classof89. It’s prediction time. I think (hope) that Cat comes back from his bereavement with a new sense of purpose, perhaps even a devil-may-care attitude, and he shuts down A-Rod and scores well above his average. He finds himself. He leads us to a road win and he, himself, carves the roast, er, learns what it takes to compete at a high level, and to lead, in this league. May his finicky heart grow three sizes Thursday….

ParticipantCan’t wait to see Cat vs A-Rod…

ParticipantI think that the referees should review the final catch..If they do, they will see that Kearse actually dropped the ball after his teammates mugged him…Not sure that he finished through the catch…

ParticipantFor those interested, Tim Clark tees off in the fourth and final round of the Sony Open at approximately 3:30 EST this afternoon. Clark sits in a tie for 5th place with Crimson Tide product Justin Thomas at 12 under. Baylor’s Jimmy Walker smoked the field yesterday with an 8 under 62 and leads at 16 under. Matt Kuchar is in second place, two strokes back followed by Brian Harman (UGA) and Troy Merritt (Boise St.) at -13.
Clark carded a 2 under 68 yesterday that included 5 birdies and 3 bogies to go with first and second round 65s. He’s off to a good start this season, making the cut in all 6 events he has played (including the Sony). He finished second at the WGC-HSBC Champions event, and now sits 9th in the FedEx Cup standings. His previous 5 events have netted him just under one million dollars ($964,435.) – a figure that he will certainly eclipse today.
Now, I realize that today’s round and Tim’s tee time coincides greatly with some NFL games being played today, but the absolutely outrageous, mind blowing, nauseating, scream at your TV, number of commercials should allow those interested an opportunity to switch over to NBC occasionally to see if TC can literally pull a few tricks out of his bag. Hopefully, he’s got an 8 or 9 under in that bag, and does a little field-smoking of his own.

ParticipantYes, it was a called play, and a damn fine called play…

ParticipantI was especially proud of how we came out and slugged them in the mouth in the waning minutes. Turner’s three at the 60-60 tie jerked their jaw, and they never recovered. Yeah, we were both tired, but they’re going home with the black eye. On another note, Abu’s dunk off the inbounds pass under our basket in the second half would have brought Dickie V. or most announcers to their feet, but all Bobby Cremins could muster was that Ga. Tech should have put a body on him.Really?
