Charlie Strong will win at Texas. A no nonsense coach players love to play for. Screw the PR crap. Mack was a perennial 8 game winner playing that game. An excuse for every loss. Two years and Texas is back in the hunt.

Call me overly optimistic, but I think this team will show much improvement as the season moves along. Most everyone in the conference is sporting 9-10+ wins as we conclude the “lite” part of the OC schedule and begin the ACC grind.

Although there is much work to be done fundamentally in areas such as FT’s, defensive intensity, rebounding and closing out games, there are some solids with this team. We seem to be taking better care of the ball with reduced turnover numbers. Youthful enthusiasm and talent is apparent with this team and it goes to the bench as well.

Huge unknowns that can derail the entire effort include key injuries, two or three scorers showing up in double figures on a consistent basis and maturation of these young guys. Some of these things can be learned/coached and some you either have or you don’t as a player (speed, athleticism, physical size).

Perhaps the most important element in the whole equation is Gott and his staff’s development throughout the season. Barring any catastrophic injury to key individuals, there is a lot to work with with this team. Teaching and learning can happen at an amazing rate if the student is willing. So far, these guys seem to be listening and applying it on the court.

There will be some freshman moments and perhaps some implosions along the way, but I see a work in progress with a lot more upside than we have seen in a number of years. Each game will provide a different and critical challenge, beginning with Pitt on Saturday.

Is the same New York Times that recently confirmed that Benghazi was the result of a video?

“At this point, what does it matter”? Applies to both situations. The PR machine trumps the uninformed.

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that FSU and Jimbo have agreed to a 5 year extension valued at $4.1 M. If true, he is out of the mix. I think I agree that he was never a candidate. If he was, Texas would have waited until next year to move Mack out to pasture.

The NFL is just a meat grinder. Coaches getting fired after only one season. Going to be interesting to see how the dominoes fall after the Texas job is filled in the college game.

I’ve found it hard to be a Panthers fan over the years. I just can’t connect with them enough to call them “my team”. Although I will pull for them in the playoffs, I much prefer to follow former Pack players and root for them. I would love to see PR have a magic trip this season as time is moving on him. Of course, I have been following RW since he left State and would love to have the three Pack players on the team get a ring. I particularly like JR Sweezy’s move to the offensive side of the ball. Talk about grabbing an opportunity and running with it. Been reading quite a bit about Peyton and can’t help but wish him well. The guy is a real pro and has come back against some long odds.

I hope we have a good turnout tomorrow for the ECU game. These guys are starting to come together as a unit and roles are beginning to become apparent. This game and the Tigers will be another challenge and a step forward in the process. I like the energy of these young guys. With respect to Tyler Lewis, it is a long season and role players are as important as anyone on the team. I hope he realizes how critical his piece is to the whole unit.
