ParticipantI suspect this is a tough decision, if there’s actually a decision to be made. I’m not convinced there is due to the contract, but at a certain point things get stale after 19 years.
I have been too shell shocked to post all week, but the quote above has stuck in my craw until I finally have something to say. To pour your heart and soul into a job for 19 years and then someone thinks you need to be replaced because you have gotten stale is the worst kind of mentality I can think of. I know because it happened to me. It turns your life upside down, and for no good reason other than someone doesn’t appreciate your experience and hard work and thinks someone new can do it better.
Coach Avent is way more hero than goat. He is a true Wolfpacker. His record speaks for itself, but you know how I know he is a great coach? Did you see how much those kids loved the team, each other, NC State, and how much it hurt them to lose? They cared, and that is the sign of a real coach.
I do not understand the mentality of questioning the coach’s job after practically every loss. When I first started participating on this forum, I was appalled by it. But then I started to understand that all viewpoints are accepted and welcomed, no matter how boneheaded they seemed to be. Furthermore, once I began to recognize the players, I realized there are only a handful who are so negative. They just come out of the woodwork after losses, like cockroaches, making it seem like they speak for many.
I do understand questioning/discussing calls/decisions/plays etc. That is part of fandom. But when you think you are smarter than the coach all the time, watch out! One comment posted, that was a good one, was questioning not walking the batter with runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out in the 10th. Obviously, in the bigs that’s what you do. But I suspect Coach didn’t want to put added pressure not to walk the winning run in when we were obviously having problems throwing strikes. And we had not shown the ability to make the double play when it was available. It’s a tough call, and I’m sure EA weighed it out. He is not an idiot.
I am still heart broken over the loss and missing the opportunity to compete in the Super Regional, just like I was when we lost to Louisville in BB, but it doesn’t mean it’s time to run the coach off. In fact, it is fun to be in those positions to do something great that makes a loss hurt so much.

ParticipantCollage Station it is. Not that I’m early calling. Just need 9 more outs.
Heelh8r
ParticipantJust eat some innings that’s all we need.
Big red mojo juice smilin on us tonight!Heelh8r
ParticipantIt’s early Tex. No way you can impersonnate Packalum44 like Rick can.
BTW, CD, that was a real zinger that was. I don’t think you got enough credit for it.
Heelh8r
ParticipantI am going Forth to bed because this game is not Worth watching.
Heelh8r
ParticipantThey make us look bad tonight but tomorrow’s another day. Mojo will be wearing RED tomorrow!
Heelh8r
ParticipantThose boys a little over confident with all the running. We’re gunning them down anyway. If nothing else, they’ll lose their legs circling the bases tonight nothing left in the tank for tomorrow.
Heelh8r
ParticipantMaybe that will piss us off.
Heelh8r
ParticipantNow we’re in trouble that wasn’t in the plan.
Heelh8r
ParticipantDP right here and we’re still right in it
Heelh8r
ParticipantCaught stealing. Got to overcome a gift run again tonight.
Heelh8r
ParticipantGame o year!!
Heelh8r
ParticipantOh man unbelievable we did it again. Let’s shut this thing down and will sleep good tonight in Forth Worth.
Heelh8r
ParticipantThat took a while but way to hold em. Got to get to this Morrison now and squeeze another run across somehow. He’s been sitting a long time maybe that will help.
Heelh8r
ParticipantI couldn’t believe it was even going to be close when he threw it but have to say I think he did get him.
Heelh8r
ParticipantAwesome. Turning in to pitchers duel now. Great game.
Heelh8r
ParticipantThought we were about to get to Morrison but he came back out throwing all junk we couldn’t touch it. Just got to hold this lead.
Heelh8r
ParticipantMan this is great. Morrison getting a high pitch count now. I know they’ve got a strong bullpen, but we should see it soon. Emotions high hope Brown can keep throwing stuff they can’t hit.
Heelh8r
ParticipantGift. Decent throw keeps him at third. Ump’s got Brown rattled a little hopefully can settle back down between inning.
Heelh8r
ParticipantOk, got my answer. It’s a generous strike zone I like it!
Heelh8r
ParticipantThat dude is either all over the edge of the plate or an awfully generous strike zone. Or both.
