Inhale the Dumpster Fire Fumes – State/Duke Game Thread

What can one say about this season, and today’s matchup. A home win would give the Blue Devils bragging rights until 2020.

Oops, I peeked. I feel dirty.

I see we just can’t shake the stupids.

I’m with you ‘Dog, but I don’t think many here understand COWDOG speak, let alone agree.

Was at the game, and felt like I was on a roller coaster ride. Up and down! I hated the faked punt last week, but as close as it was today, it was inexcusable for us not to pick up 4th and 1.,I don’t blame coach. And we have got 2 incompetent qbs playing for us. They sure made the final score myth how close the game was. Guess we can shoot for a 6-6 season, but that means no more interceptions the rest of the season. We are already over the limit on those. Certainly hope Brissette will give us a reliable qb next year. And hats off to the defense today, they kept us in the game, but the offense didn’t want it. Heard Canada has several plays called on long passes to open receivers, but our incompetent qbs overthrew them, except for once where we scored in the 4th quarter.

“So, you think rotating QBs all game long was a GREAT idea? ”

Dick Sheridan took us to a bowl game (when it was hard to get to one) rotating in Shane Montgomery on 3rd down.

Florida won a national title rotating Chris Leak and Tim Tebow.

    It can and has worked.

First time I saw Mitchell play since his return. Didn’t realize how inept the offence is. Can’t see where we have a winnable game remaining in the schedule. Another wait til next year. Hope Coach D and staff can put a better product on the field in 2014.

I was spared the ordeal of watching too much of the game, but I think Pete Thomas is the best option at QB at this point. His running is less offensive than Mitchell’s passing and we’d be better off if he took every snap.

I am starting to think DD could be in over his head, but you have to let his recruits get on the field before you pass judgement on him for good. He’s learning some tough lessons this year. At least he’s not screwing up what could have been a great season. I think his hyper-competitiveness does have him frustrated and trying to make something happen for his team.

Just think how hard this would have been to turn around after one or two more Top 150 recruiting classes?

It ain’t happening next year either folks regardless of the QB(s) we bring in. And maybe won’t be happening the year after that. We are just so unskilled. And behind the unskilled starters is, well, nothing really. Remember how our collective mindset here was how good we were going to be when we finally got BM back. We are a hopeful lot if nothing else.

There is nothing we can say at this point that can make any sense of this white dog $hit we are seeing. It’s a combo of issues from bad TOB recruiting to terrible coaching decisions by DD. So here are the facts from where I see it…..

    1. TOB left us basically nothing
    2. DD has made terrible coaching decisions thus far (say what you want about talent but this one still sticks to be true).
    3. The play calling is bad (this may be due to what we have though)
    4. QB play is so bad it is comical (why not try the others….I mean it’s already terrible).
    5. This is starting to be a train wreck from fans on down to boosters etc.

Will DD be a great coach once his players show up? It is certainly possible! Will he make it that long? Not so sure he will…..

We are in trouble whichever way you look at it.

From the Greensboro News and Record:

The loss dropped State to 3-6 (0-6) and prompted Dave Doeren to start screaming at his players in the locker room loud enough for reporters in the next room to hear him.
They should’ve been screaming at him. Doeren had another bad day.
State was lousy. The first-year coach didn’t help matters. For some reason, he decided to start juggling his quarterbacks. For some reason, he decided to go for it on a fourth down from his own 26. It backfired. Again. And then, he called a timeout on a kickoff.

Wow. As much as I would like, I can’t argue with this. Inexplicable.

As Casey Stengel once said about the expansion Mets, “does anyone here know how to play this game?” The QB play is awful, weak offensive line, offensive scheme and play calling a mystery and in- game coaching decisions questionable. This program has long way to go just to achieve mediocre.

“It ain’t happening next year either folks regardless of the QB(s) we bring in.”

Great educated comment. Next year’s QB is already on the roster.

Unless you are a complete novice and have no clue for which what to look, next year will provide the info needed on DD.

Add the ’09 or ’10 RW to this roster and the 3-6 record is reversed, at a minimum.

“Questionable” play calling is what you get when you have no faith in your ability to score. You gamble, you take chances normally not taken.

I’d rather have a coach with the fight to throw spaghetti and pencils than one who just lies down with the status quo to accept defeat.

As far as the News & Record, sport writers know nothing about coaching. I’d suggest not looking to them for validation.

Thanks for education tfoose. I feel so much smarter now.

“Mr. Stick …. Where the hell have you been ???”

I’ve been speechless, Bill, absolutely speechless! Which, in itself, is hard to believe!

My Mom tried to teach me “if you can’t say something nice, just don’t say anything”….chirp…..chirp….chirp…

So, tfoose, what part of the News and Record quote is inaccurate?
