Inhale the Dumpster Fire Fumes – State/Duke Game Thread

What can one say about this season, and today’s matchup. A home win would give the Blue Devils bragging rights until 2020.

“Can anyone else find a legitimate reason on why this is on DD?”

So, you think rotating QBs all game long was a GREAT idea? No continuity and everyone watching (except DD) could see this was a problem. We would have been better off losing with Pete or Brandon, the rotation just threw off the entire offense. While we’re at it, let’s not forget the 4th down call in our own territory – two weeks in a row. I could go on, but most of us who know football understand that some (not all) of this falls on coaching decisions.

Please don’t ever compare Virginia Tech’s football team to the 2013 NCSU football team ever again.

It is absolutely on DD! If the QBs suck this bad and cannot show ANY improvement, then you f*cking play someone else! It simply couldn’t get any worse! No WAY, TOB would have sucked this bad! And I wanted him gone, but I’d take mediocrity over this!

DD couldn’t coach a high school team!

I’ve yet to see any college team win consistently with a bad quarterback.

We have TWO bad quarterbacks. Plus we two-platoon them.

There is little doubt in my mind right now that we are going to run the ACC’s “o-fer” table, and be swept in the same season by Wake, UNC, Duke and ECU. And conclude it with a home loss parting shot from Maryland.

I don’t see ANYTHING on the football recruiting horizon. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

In the words of Dr. Zachary Smith, “Doomed! Doomed! We’re all DOOMED!”

    Ain’t it the truth!

“It simply couldn’t get any worse!”…
    famous last words.

    ^Yes it can, John….

Vandy whips the GatorHoles on Florida Field 45 to 17….
First time Vandy has won there since 1968.

We should all be glad that we are NOT GatorHoles.

Especially after the NOLES eat some GatorTail on Florida Field — November 30th.

I certainly agree with two QBs throwing off the rythmn. But that’s a second tier concern when neither one can move the ball and both have had an entire game to try.

DD specifically called out Mitchell for trying that razzle dazzle “flip the ball while you’re going down” stuff and said he wasn’t going to have it. Then he comes out and sucks it up against unc in another game we could have won. So he lets Thomas get some PT. Obviously it does t matter who is inthe game at this point. It’s going to suck. There’d be just as much criticism only one QB played. So your point is sort of nullified, sir. Just hope for the both of us that you’re wrong and that DD will ultimately sort it out. If not, it’s an even bigger mess than losing to UNC and Duke in consecutive weeks.

“It is absolutely on DD! If the QBs suck this bad and cannot show ANY improvement, then you f*cking play someone else!”

DD did say in the post game that they were playing the best two QBs we had….that should say some things. None of us are at practice watching these kids day to day.

  10. Alpha Wolf 11/09/2013 at 8:17 PM #

^ As bad as our QBs are, no quarterback would have been a 14 point improvement.

  11. Wulfpack 11/09/2013 at 8:21 PM #

I am not going to get into the DD hate. He deserves a chance. But my God has he blown this season. Let’s hope the plan works. I cant remember us ever being THIS bad. We are looking at a 3 win season and winless in league play. Not only that, every team in NC has waxed us. Think about that for a moment will you. Not pretty.

  12. jljones 11/09/2013 at 8:25 PM #

Looks like we are headed for the worst ACC record since 1959 when I was a freshman. Questions to be pondered: 1) how much of this mess is due to the TOB recruiting 2) Can DD recruit enough top talent to ovecome what appears to be poor coaching decesions 3) If the team doesn’t turn around next year will Debbie take action rather than let it drag on 4) Is this just more of what we have experienced for the past 50 years —I am so tired of waiting 10 to 15 years just to put a good –not great–team on the field. I still say it may take a great NAME coach to ever make a difference in State football and that takes commitment and $$$$ from the top. After over 50 years of waiting I don’t believe it will happen in my life time.

  13. MrPlywood 11/09/2013 at 8:27 PM #

The bar is now officially on the ground. And I wouldn’t put it past the team to trip on that.

  14. Ed89 11/09/2013 at 8:27 PM #

Did anyone think a transfer WR from Arkansas who played a handful of times at QB was going to be a good QB at NC State? Anyone? DD has totally trashed this season. Stocker is NOT good, but he still redshirted him. Thomas had already sat a year or he would have probably sat him.

We are bad….NO doubt about it. I think the team has given up. Watch the replay of when we get the tackle and fumble recovery from Hakim Jones. No one is even that excited. I say pull about 75% of the schollys. These guys need to transfer. We need players who want to win. I believe in DD. He doesn’t have much to work with. He’s better than the Marine…The Marine’s players have given up….

  15. Adventuroo 11/09/2013 at 8:28 PM #

OK…..had dinner…..need a DRINK. Listened to the post game by the announcers…..they put Jay Carney to shame….

At least I BELIEVE Coach D when he talks. He is really frustrated….He is the FB expert and he will the one held accountable.

Wonder, the way our luck is running if there are pretty good odds on the “Suburban Satellite” falling on CF?

    http://www.foxnews.com/science/interactive/2013/11/08/track-europe-falling-2000-pound-satellite-in-real-time/

Nick Saban just “coached” a fumble….now that is what a real coach can do….

Wonder if the ‘Canes know that they evil genie is still granting wishes…..their “streak” is probably going to end tonight….

    Nighty Nite…..be good….

  16. Alpha Wolf 11/09/2013 at 8:29 PM #

I don’t “hate” Coach Doeren, but a couple of fourth down calls in the past two games really do raise an eyebrow and make me wonder.

And….it opens the door to legitimately question other calls and decisions.

  17. redwolf87 11/09/2013 at 8:30 PM #

I’m not upset at the lack of QB play. We suspected it would be questionable.

Nor did I expect us to even have a winning record, as bare as the cupboard was.

But when I see some of the playcalls of the last two weeks–an idiotic fake punt and an ill advised 4th down attempt deep in your own territory–you honestly have to question things.

Honestly, does he think he’s playing EA Sports on the PS3? YOU DON’T GET DO-OVERS!

  18. Wulfpack 11/09/2013 at 8:34 PM #

Those calls were each perplexing. Said it before and will say it after. DD has his work cut out for him. Many of us thought we would struggle this season, but not like this. We are awful, and it does make you wonder if it can be fixed any time soon. I am willing to give DD and company a pass on this season, but no more than that. This has just been brutal football to watch, and very poor coaching.

  19. TLeo 11/09/2013 at 8:59 PM #

I wonder if Ed89 is on to something here. Other than a few quick recruits DD signed on short notice, we are playing with TOB’s team. We all know how they were prone to giving up (or not even showing up) last season in games so maybe we are seeing that this season as well. Combined with really bad QB play that has to make it near impossible to have much success. Thomas and Mitchell are, I’m sure, trying hard and good guys but they are just not good QBs.
add in a few questionable decisions like going for 4th and one on your own 20 yrd line and when they don’t work, a train wreck follows. Maybe these decisions (as questionable as they are) are really a result of the coaches trying desperately to find something to work and spark to ignite a fire in the players and taking chances they would normally not take?

  20. Avid109 11/09/2013 at 9:04 PM #

I think the “going for 4th and one on your own 20 yrd line” call was the coach’s way of telling the players that he had confidence in them. Unfortunately, the call backfired. It may not have been the smartest call, but I can understand why it was made.

  21. Wulfpack 11/09/2013 at 9:06 PM #

I said last week the entire program needs an attitude change. DD is trying to change the culture. There are clearly a lot of TOB bad apples on this team. I think DD will get the players in, but I am somewhat concerned about the coaching. It has not been good this year, and I seriously question what anyone saw in Mitchell.

  22. Wulfpack 11/09/2013 at 9:08 PM #

That kind of call in that situation does not speak confidence at all — it wreaks of desperation. There was no need for it at that point in the game only down a score. It is deflating when it doesn’t go your way, and overcoming a 10 point deficit is a tall order for this group. It was a terrible call.

  23. tjfoose1 11/09/2013 at 9:18 PM #

Haven’t read the previous posts and don’t plan to.

No coach could win with this bunch as long as it comes with incompetent QB play. Not DD, not Nick Saban, not Belichick, not Knute.

Plays were there to be made all day. The QB’s failed to make them.

I saw some questionable play calls, but if DD knew the QB play he was gonna get, I can understand them.

What you are seeing is what we would’ve had during the Wilson and Glennon years, minus Wilson and Glennon.

  24. redwolf87 11/09/2013 at 9:19 PM #

Going for it on 4th and 1 on your own 20 is stupid football. You can rationalize it however you want–instilling confidence, whatever. It is now and always will be stupid football.

“…proper perspective? ” Dude I was at Wallace Wade ’cause I was offered passes that were dolled out to former DUKE players.

Ya might say that perspective was lost yesterday, when I said, ” How many? ”

I didn’t think Canada would get around to flippin’ pencils at the ceiling so soon. But if the spaghetti you’re served ain’t sticking to the wall …why not?
