[Key 3:45pm Updates] Links to past scandal? Wheels for Heels – Roy waiting on facts: About which player?

Today, Roy Williams said that he’s waiting on facts before making any judgement on the whole PJ Hairston-rental-car-(or cars, plural)-situation (ABC 11). But there may yet be more to this than it seems.

Is UNC senior guard (just for clarity: basketball, not football) Leslie McDonald the latest over at the Flagship to go ‘rogue’? McDonald was stopped on Highway 64 West in Tyrrell County by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol on July 4 for speeding (79 in a 55). SFN acquired a copy of the citation from the public records in Tyrrell County. You can see the details of this citation here.

Of particular interest:

*McDonald is from Memphis and has a Tennessee driver’s license, but the Chevy Malibu he was driving is registered in the state of North Carolina. Like Hairston, McDonald was stopped while driving a car he didn’t own. So, whose car is he driving?

*The Trooper’s notes on the citation indicate the passengers said they were UNC students driving back to Chapel Hill.

*The registered owner of this car is Derrick Leon Parker, Junior, of Durham. The only other Derrick Leon Parker that could be found in Durham is apparently his father (Senior). Parker, Jr. has no criminal record per Durham County public records. But, the registered owner’s apparent Facebook page does not indicate that he attends UNC.

*SFN found a Leon Parker on LinkedIn, listed as a research assistant at UNC Chapel Hill. But, at first glimpse, this guy doesn’t look affiliated to Derrick Leon Parker.

*Derrick Leon Parker owns this house in Durham.

*So, SFN wonders: who was the other occupant in the car? If it wasn’t Parker (the registered owner), then why were these two driving this car without the registered owner with them?

*This is the Facebook page for a Leon Parker of Durham (here). Whoever this is, he is in pictures with two men who appear to be Haydn “Fats” Thomas and Tim Harrington.

*We know from the many recent media reports that Haydn “Fats” Thomas is the guy who paid for the rental Yukon that PJ Hairston was driving when he was arrested (WRAL).

*We also know from a McDonald tweet to @BRINTCITYNC that he got a phone from Fats Thomas.

"all I had to do was restore and activate it" Hmmm!

“all I had to do was restore and activate it” Hmmm!

*@BRINTCITYNC (Mirage 7.26) appears to be an associate of Tim Harrington, both connected to KISS Entertainment. We know that Harrington is an associate of Fats Thomas.

*WRAL characterized Fats Thomas this way:

[H]as a long criminal history and also left a trail of tweets detailing arrests, drugs, trips and relationships with former high-profile athletes before deleting his Twitter account July 1.

Some of the relationships with athletes from UNC, Duke and other institutions, bring into question whether he provided impermissible benefits which could result in NCAA sanctions for those programs.

*Also of interest is the relationship of Leslie McDonald, Fat Thomas and Iceberg Guards, a company Fats openly endorses. McDonald instagramed a picture of him and Iceberg Guards but that has since been deleted (here).

*There are also pictures and video floating around online of PJ Hairston underage boozing in Masonboro recently. And we’ve learned that Hairston was instructed to keep it locked up this weekend and explicitly told to go to church and do some community service. I guess shotgunning bud light in Masonboro is a little bit of community service for us ABCers.

I don’t know what it all means but there sure seems to be a lot of smoke and as our own BJD said “If there’s one truly predictable thing in life…it’s that stupid people tend to do stupid things. Thank God for that, in the Holes’case, stupid is as stupid does.”

After more than a MONTH, one has to ask what ‘facts’ that ‘ole Roy could he be waiting to learn? If all of the facts aren’t in by now, how hard are people really looking? Why wouldn’t all of the facts be in by now? Heck, when one reads a statement like the following from Trudi Random (Miykael Faulcon’s mother), one has to wonder if ole Roy and the Flagship are working hard to manipulate the ‘facts’ to their liking before sharing the ‘facts’ with the rest of us.

“I don’t like how things are going so I am making the choice to do something about it..this is a notice that I am not going to sit back and let my son Miykael Faulcon be the fall guy..so if this means trouble for me..folks getting exposed…me losing all that I have to save him..then so be it..I am a mother who loves her kids unconditionally…I put all that I have into raising my kids and I will be damn if I let my hard work be in vain..if you want the truth ask me don’t assume…”

Maybe, just maybe, the facts that Roy seeks will also provide insight into the facts that UNC never uncovered or shared after it became public that a single UNC athlete received 93 parking tickets on FIVE DIFFERENT cars that used NINE DIFFERENT license plates!? (Click here for a reminder) Perhaps if UNC had cared more about getting to the truth of the ‘Wheels for Heels’ scandal in 2011 then this wouldn’t be happening today.

Remember, this was an obvious BASKETBALL topic even in 2011. You gotta check out this link for even more review. When you do, you will see an awful lot about UNC Basketball star, John Henson and car/ticket issues in Chapel Hill. That is the same John Henson that shows up in tons of pictures and social interactions on FaceBook and Twitter with – you guessed it – Fats Thomas.

BREAKING from USA Today (2:50pm)

While we were pulling together our thoughts on this Leslie McDonald situation, USA Today posted this article to further support our question of the day — About which playerS would Roy be waiting to learn facts?

Four rental vehicles that are linked to Haydn Thomas, the convicted felon who rented the sport utility vehicle that North Carolina leading scorer P.J. Hairston was driving when he was arrested last month, have received a total of nine parking citations on the university’s campus since February.

Between Feb. 22 and May 28, the nine citations were issued for four rental vehicles that either Thomas or a Catinia Farrington, a woman who shares his Durham, N.C., address, rented from the Hertz location at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

Rental receipts obtained by USA TODAY Sports that were crossed referenced by license plate with UNC parking tickets show:

* A 2013 GMC Yukon rented by Thomas from Feb. 14 to March 3 received tickets for an expired meter on Feb. 21 and lack of a valid parking permit on Feb. 22.
* A 2012 Camaro SS rented by Thomas from March 25 to April 15 received a ticket on April 15 for lack of a valid permit.
* A 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe rented by Thomas from April 18 to May 2 received a ticket on May 1 for lack of a valid permit.
* The Camaro was rented again from April 25 to June 17 by Farrington. The Camaro received a parking ticket on May 28 for lack of a valid permit.
* A 2013 Mercedes Benz 350 rented by Thomas from May 8 to May 30 received four parking tickets, one each for an expired meter on May 22 and 23 and one each for lacking a valid permit on May 23 and May 28.

[snip]

Between Feb. 14 and June 25, Thomas and Farrington spent $15,020.35 on vehicle rentals from the RDU Hertz. Farrington rented the Camaro from April 25 through June 17, a period of 54 days, according to a rental receipt obtained by USA TODAY Sports. Farrington was billed $3,249.00. Thomas rented the same vehicle March 25 through April 15, incurring charges of $2468.47, according to the rental receipt.

[snip]

In two telephone interviews on July 3, Thomas, 39, told USA TODAY Sports that he did not know Hairston and that Hairston followed Thomas on Twitter only because “I promote parties.” Thomas said that he rented the car for himself and that a friend, Miykael Faulcon, borrowed the car June 5 to go to a store when the arrest occurred.

Thomas said he is a friend of Faulcon from partying with him at clubs. When asked in a phone interview Tuesday about her son’s relationship with Thomas, Faulcon’s mother, Trudy Ransom, said the two have no relationship.

“I don’t know why he says he has a relationship with my son,” Ransom said. “I won’t comment about PJ Hairston. I will let this play out in court and I hope the innocent will remain innocent.”

Thomas rented the Yukon at 10 p.m. June 2 at the airport Hertz location, and the car was returned at 10:30 p.m. June 5. Thomas was charged $1261.64, according to the receipt.

The police report revealed that a 9-millimeter handgun and a magazine with nine rounds of ammunition were seized during a traffic stop that led to Hairston’s arrest on possession of marijuana charges. Three cigars and a plastic baggie that contained a half-ounce of marijuana also were seized.

Hairston, 20, was driving Faulcon and Carlos Sanford in the silver Yukon, according to the police report. All three were arrested and charged with drug possession. Hairston also was charged with driving without a license. Hairston, Faulcon and Sanford were each released on $1,000 unsecured bonds.

Thomas said July 3 that neither the NCAA nor officials from North Carolina had reached out to him to talk with him about his relationship with Hairston. He added that he is not a University of North Carolina athletic booster nor is he connected to a sports agent.

Could you imagine how bad things would be in Chapel Hill if they weren’t so great at living up to promises they made to the NCAA about their diligence to monitor social media? And, just how awesome their compliance department would be about clamping down? Remember, this is the school where

Anyone who is opposed to the rampant rise of technology and social media is clearly not a Pack fan.

  2. TheCOWDOG 07/10/2013 at 4:13 PM #

Russkie and Ply have been on fire of late. Good laughs.
Beej …does quirky count if I had to Google Dead Milkmen? Or is that rhetorical?

Anyway, I must admit that I am in agreement with Bubba’s statement. He don’t know where this is goin’ anymore than I do.

Eventually, it’s all about connecting the dots.

  3. golf76 07/10/2013 at 4:22 PM #

Excellent work Adventuroo! Raises a lot of questions begging to be answered. Will be interesting to see how many of these links disappear, or websites go down for “construction,” over the next several days.

  4. highstick 07/10/2013 at 4:28 PM #

And “InsidetheCarolina Hole” said “we”(meaning NCSU fans) were not smart enough to “synthesize the flowcharts and data” well enough to come up with a theory and conclusion…

Wonder how many “lab reports” the typical grad from UnC ever did in their college careers?

  5. gumby 07/10/2013 at 5:52 PM #

reports are likely not required in meth labs

  6. gumby 07/10/2013 at 5:59 PM #

Oh as for that ticket in Tyrrell County, US 64 with a 55 mph speed limit is the stretch from Columbia to Manteo, 2 lane and often frustratingly slow. A few years ago the N&O had a series about speeding tickets and how the state of NC cared more about ticket revenues than reducing speeding, and one article focused on the NC trooper that worked that particular stretch of road. He writes more tickets than any other trooper in the state. I’m sure nothing has changed.

  7. TheCOWDOG 07/10/2013 at 8:04 PM #

Never saw a need to speed thru that stretch. Ya never know what ya might miss in the canals, or on the edge of woods.

  8. BJD95 07/10/2013 at 8:55 PM #

Saw that U*NC claims to be “gathering information” per the ESPN tracker. That’s some kind of grand euphemism.

  9. oceanman 07/10/2013 at 9:11 PM #

Gathering information in translated in U*NC speak to actually mean “organizing the cover up”

  10. islandbreeze 07/10/2013 at 9:29 PM #

Honestly I hated those Chem 101 labs. I had them from 7-10pm in Withers Hall.

UN-Class announces they are proud of the way they have handled their gathering of facts and complete silence and further state that they are a role model for all institutions of higher UN-Learning and thus they once again proudly reaffirm their self titled status of Fagship of the world.

  12. gotohe11carolina 07/10/2013 at 10:40 PM #

I will be interested to see how acc and NCAA blind eye this one. Using the old its an academic issue on the fake classes was pure gold.

  13. JohnGalt78 07/10/2013 at 10:54 PM #

Has anyone else been wondering perhaps…say, maybe….you know, you got your gangbangers here…you got guns and drugs and alcohol for underage dudes, you got free wheels, you got clubin’ and partying…all paid for by a felon, right? What’s missing? Think about it…what’s missing here? If this were a movie, what would be conspicuous by it’s absence?

First one to post the correct answers gets….well, nothing really….but pride.

  14. choppack1 07/10/2013 at 11:16 PM #

Just another day in Chapel Hill. This is the “beauty” of a campus where life revolves around the “school” – no one has the courage to rock the boat.

Sandusky would have had a field day at Chapel Hill.

  15. TheCOWDOG 07/10/2013 at 11:27 PM #

    Shortys. Nowhere in sight.

  16. archdalepack 07/10/2013 at 11:33 PM #

Galt78, could it be a trip to strip club where a teacher /professor works part time as a dancer?

  17. tuckerdorm1983 07/10/2013 at 11:58 PM #

Hypocrisy: a feigning to be what one is not or to believe what one does not; especially : the false assumption of an appearance of virtue or religion

They say they will do anything to clean up sports at UNC, however football is one thing but when it comes to their sacred cow basketball and their star player, then winning is really all that matters.

Come next spring Mr. Hairston will be playing in the NCAA tournament. Mark my word. Minimize and sweep under the rug. You can be a thug and a gangsta as long as you win.

  18. Adventuroo 07/11/2013 at 12:02 AM #

Couple of late night insights….with only a small glass of vino.

Gumby, I drove that stretch in my MH in early June. I had two hot shots pass me (can’t remember if was them Camaro’s). Out of NOWHERE, a Deputy pulled BOTH. I was Mr. SHP Smokey doing business twice after that. On the way back…same thing. I drive my MH @ 60 because it will stay in OD and I don’t have to hit my equity line as much for fuel…but they did not bother me. GOOD INFO.

WRAL’s Jeff Boy reports tonight at NO OTHER CHARGES will be filed against PJ and that the Durham DA is NOT GONNA talk about this any more. OK….no GUN charge against PJ. Now Whose print and/or DNA was on it? Will there be ANY Firearms charges against ANY of the OTHER lads?

Bubba’s statement today was a little on the wimpy side….but it was worlds better than what Butch and Dick said. Wonder WHAT will be PJ’s fate? Folks will have to make up their own mind….have not heard of the NCAA making reservations of any block of rooms for their investigators…..but maybe they will….

  19. JohnGalt78 07/11/2013 at 8:20 AM #

Close Archdaepack. You’re on the right track. BUT, last time I checked, strip clubs are legal in this state.

  20. wolffpride 07/11/2013 at 8:55 AM #

According to ESPN, PJ will not be charged with anything else, aka no possession of a firearm. Durham police made an announcement yesterday evening.

No surprise here, seeing as how the gun was found outside the car. None of this should matter anyway, the fact that a gun was involved is condemning. I imagine however that UNC will use this as a reprieve and chalk it up to he was hanging with the wrong crowd. I hope there is justice somewhere in all of this, but I really have my doubts. We should start the league! I’ll be Batman. Anybody born on Krypton with the first name Kal? How about someone who inherited a ring from a dying alien?

  21. golf76 07/11/2013 at 8:59 AM #

Speaking of rings, anyone Taking bets on which of our local sports writers at the upcoming ACC Football Media Days will ask Fedora about buying all the UNX football players ACC championship rings last season.

  22. triadwolf 07/11/2013 at 9:18 AM #

    Galt78

Hookers and/or dead bodies, or better yet a dead hooker. Since UNC male “students” would have no interest in female hookers, I’ll go with a dead body. And can’t leave out the big cover up by folks in high places – no self respecting movie would leave that out of the plot.

My hope is that someone is digging up records going back a few years and trying to connect rental cars and UNC athletes. That’ll at least take the rogue basketball player defense out of play.

  23. TheCOWDOG 07/11/2013 at 9:44 AM #

    ^^^^^^^^
    Shorty/Shorties.

No Shorties, paid or otherwise. Unless you take into consideration Fats’ relationship with the peeps from the N Raleigh party mansion, where there was an endless supply of Shorties.

  24. 44rules 07/11/2013 at 11:10 AM #

Galt, I’ll take hookers for $1000.

  25. 44rules 07/11/2013 at 11:11 AM #

And although I think nothing will happen and it will be over by Friday, I would like to see a Beach Party Vietnam over there.
