State UNC game thread

Since I started the game threads we are 3-0. Since I am obviously the reason we keep winning I will keep doing the game thread. Ironically I will not be watching the game or able to join the game thread as my wife committed me to attend her nephew’s daughter’s baptism. Sigh. That means someone else will need to carry on the nickname “Buckets” and start the new one “Player X”.

I have no idea how this game will go. They will be playing “small ball” and we will be looking to score in the paint. Whichever team is able to force their will on the other will win. We should be more consistent as we will not be relying on the three, so if UNC gets hot we need to minimize the damage and keep our heads. This will be a close but high scoring game. I think we win it 87-83.

“Leslie is an emotional headcase, its not due to a lack of want to.”

    Bingo. Now I’m out.

And what was one of the big complaints with Lowe? Throwing players under the bus. CJ had an awful game. Other players had moments as well. Beyond the general type comments “we have to keep our focus” or “maybe I should have rested some players more” this all should be addressed at practice or behind doors not to the media.

“ItÒ€ℒs not a high horse, but it may appear that way to those wallering in the mud.”

Funny. I forget that it’s impossible to talk to someone who knows all.

BTW, belittling others and hurling insults from afar in no way shows your intellectual superiority. You may very well be correct about everything you are saying, but your words and mannerisms portend you as a fool.

    Oh well, whatevs. Go Pack.

There’s plenty to point to in tonight’s loss folks, and yeah, a lot of it is on Calvin. There’s no denying that. But as usual, in looking for someone/something simple to point at to find blame there are some over the top things being said.

Limiting his minutes at opportune times is one thing. Thinking that sitting him the entire second half is an option is another thing. It’s just not.

  5. DrWuffette1day 02/23/2013 at 6:22 PM #

The team didn’t help Calvin get out of his slump. That’s on Brown, Wood and Warren. They were awful in that respect.

I don’t remember Calvin getting any easy shots/dunks to get him going. The passing and ball movement was not good at all.

It’s the guards/wings responsibilities to get the big guys going.

I also blame the loss on Rick for not being here.

  7. tractor57 02/23/2013 at 6:29 PM #

At least we had a good announcing crew on TV. They actually called the game rather than talked about who they ate with last night.

LESLIE, LESLIE AND LESLIE Carolina got into your head
you dont have to score 16 pts for us to win, just play your best and today you didn’t. We could have used your rebounding and leadership on the floor. I know WE CAN BEAT ANYBODY but EVERYONE must GIVE 100%!!!
If you cant score do other things well! And coach we need to practice FT’S.

  9. Wufpacker 02/23/2013 at 6:30 PM #

Rick’s got his own problems. Can you imagine having to go to your wife’s sister’s nephew’s brother’s cousin’s kid’s baptism….or whatever it was.

I mean, even without missing the game that’s just all kinds of torture from where I’m sitting.

  10. TheAliasTroll 02/23/2013 at 6:31 PM #

I’ve seen very little signs that we’re improving as a team this year. Rebounding seems to be the only thing that’s improved this year. That’s on the coach.

To Gott’s credit, we did see a lot of player development in Gott’s 1st year because he made them actually practice, but I’m really starting to question if we’re seeing Gott’s ceiling..

Just so yall know, this team is not going far in the tournament.

(sorry for being such a worthless, stupid honkey , almighty all knowing omniscient tjfoose)

  11. DrWuffette1day 02/23/2013 at 6:31 PM #

Agree tractor57. I didn’t think about it until you pointed it out but I am strangely not annoyed at the commentators. Just our whole freakin’ team.

  12. tjfoose1 02/23/2013 at 6:34 PM #

“BTW, belittling others and hurling insults from afar in no way shows your intellectual superiority.”

Then we agree, that’s EXACTLY what I was pointing out. See insults directed towards Gott and players. Good of you to finally come around.

Wufpacker, I think that Rick played extremely selfish today. He was only thinking about himself and his actions showed that. He did not give his full effort today and made a lot of bad decisions which affected his team.

Very disappointed in his performance. Consequently, I do question whether his heart is in the game and for the greater good of our program.

  14. tractor57 02/23/2013 at 6:40 PM #

    Dr,

I have always liked this announcing team. No theatrics, no over the top self promotion . A lot of good basketball IQ and call the game even handed.

Doris Burke is a pro at the color work and the play by play guy actually calls the game. I even knew who was called for fouls for a change.

  15. tjfoose1 02/23/2013 at 6:42 PM #

“(sorry for being such a worthless, stupid honkey , almighty all knowing omniscient tjfoose) ”

    Apology accepted, ‘Troll. Truth hurts.

Guess all those fans who think they are “almighty all knowing omniscient” in their criticism of team and coach from their view from “afar” don’t like being labeled for what they are.

I didn’t say I knew and agreed, simply that I could understand.

    Project much?

  16. wufpup76 02/23/2013 at 6:44 PM #

Haha – foose, my man, you will never find me insulting the players even during a game thread (where emotion > rationality).

You may or may not have been referring to me, but IMO you could stand to tone down the calling others ‘stupid’ stuff. Now I’ll get off my own high horse hahaha.

Anyways, I hope this team can come together and give us all something to be excited about over the next few weeks.

  17. Wufpacker 02/23/2013 at 6:46 PM #

Agreed Wuffette, but I think it’s his wife’s fault for not sitting him the entire baptism.

    She should obviously be fired.

Let’s just hope Rick didn’t fumble the tike out of bounds during the ceremony. πŸ˜€

  18. TheCOWDOG 02/23/2013 at 6:51 PM #

Thanks, peeps. About 1 in every 4 of ya have provided me with enough good material for the next month.

  19. tjfoose1 02/23/2013 at 6:52 PM #

No worries… “stupid” was directed towards the Gott is an idiot comment.

I dish back what is thrown. Granted, I could have been more concise and sometimes less direct. But then, I have a rep to uphold and haven’t been around much lately.

  20. DrWuffette1day 02/23/2013 at 6:53 PM #

Tractor- hope they do all of our remaining games and true.

Wufpacker- don’t blame the woman! Rick like the rest of our team showed no toughness today (whip sound). Another turnover would not surprise me. Rick is no WBS.

  21. Wufpacker 02/23/2013 at 6:59 PM #

Now Wuffette, you should know me better than that by now. I wasn’t blaming her because she’s a woman. Just because she didn’t sub for Rick.

    Damn woman.

  22. DrWuffette1day 02/23/2013 at 7:10 PM #

Agreed. She should have looked at the bigger picture with regards to her lineup. On the other hand, she really didn’t have many options since she married it.

I still blame Rick. He’s got to show some in-game leadership if we are going to be successful.

    so…
    1. it wasn’t the refs.
    2. it wasn’t the announcers.
    3. it wasn’t a UNX player “career day”.
    it was Rick.
