State UNC game thread

Since I started the game threads we are 3-0. Since I am obviously the reason we keep winning I will keep doing the game thread. Ironically I will not be watching the game or able to join the game thread as my wife committed me to attend her nephew’s daughter’s baptism. Sigh. That means someone else will need to carry on the nickname “Buckets” and start the new one “Player X”.

I have no idea how this game will go. They will be playing “small ball” and we will be looking to score in the paint. Whichever team is able to force their will on the other will win. We should be more consistent as we will not be relying on the three, so if UNC gets hot we need to minimize the damage and keep our heads. This will be a close but high scoring game. I think we win it 87-83.

I don’t agree with trashing players at all, but I really don’t get the bitchy in-fighting here and the puffing of chests as to who knows more about this and that.

It was a disappointing loss, nobody likes it. Damn ya’ll.

    OK….

    here’s the REAL DEAL….

I’ve seen about a hundred of these STATE-UNx games
    …nothing new here.

I’m going to get a Cold One and roast some fresh OYSTERS
and I am 100% positive the sun will come up in the morning.

    Nothing else matters as much.

    God is good.

Good night fellas…. enjoyed watching the game with you on SFN…. see ya’ Monday…..

Hey dumbshits, Leslie is an emotional headcase, its not due to a lack of want to.
He sets the limit of the height of your teams success. You don’t sacrifice him and the upper limits of your teams succcess with an adolescent temper tantrum. You manage it, the best you can, never taking your eye off the ball. That ball is success in March, not in any single game.

I bet Gott sometimes shares some of your thoughts, that it might be easier once Leslie is gone. But that’s not where we are now.

In the mean time, Jeff Foxworthy is holding your sign.

I hear ya highstick, I wasn’t referring to you. I have NO issue with objective criticism, and I’m with you on your “show me” attitude. I do have a problem with the personal attacks and name-calling that others are throwing around like a bunch of petulant children.

  6. Wufpacker 02/23/2013 at 6:05 PM #

“…for whoever said that you can’t sit leslie for the half bc of our thin bench..you are wrong bud..”

That was me, and I’m not wrong. But go ahead thinking your tunnel vision erroneous opinion….I’m done with this thread before I call anyone a name they deserve, but which I will regret.

And Carlos Rodon threw 7 innings of no hit ball today, so I guess his demise was a bit overstated by some of the experts around here as well.

  7. wolf pack 02/23/2013 at 6:05 PM #

no reason to trash the players..leslie was having a bad game and our chances would have been better with him on the bench as the in-game facts show..oh well..I hoped that he would have been able to turn it around…but he didn’t..

Everyone is so upset that state doesn get the respect it “deserves” from the media, when in reality, the losses to wake md and uva and now UNC say more than one signature win over Duke. We went 2-2 against the blues this year. I’d say thats average. And average is waaaay better than this team has been in a long time, and history says that.

If this team wants respect, it has to ge better and win the big games instead of blow them. All state has done this year is won a copule emotional games at home agains UNC and Duke, and then pissed everything else away because they lack composure. This. Is. NC STATE!!!!

The bigger issue is how he responds, and how the team responds. I can’t imagine some guys are happy with the minutes he got after not getting off the bus. Hope he, and the team, can rebound because this is the type of thing to divide a team.

  11. Whiteshoes67 02/23/2013 at 6:07 PM #

There’s a good article about our rebounding aberation against FSU. Wasn’t so much about the insertion of TJ, who had double digit boards; FSU is a horrendous rebounding team; everybody schools them on that end. Howell gets a ton, but very little help. We don’t defend on the perimeter well and fight through screens. We’re casual with the ball.

I was skeptical about TJ’s insertion into the lineup. I know Purvis has had some struggles, but his perimeter defense is better. Still think you go with what you got you there. We pretty much rode the same starting 5 until Brown went down with injury. That’s our best five. CJ stunk today, but without him we’d have lost several other ones earlier this year.

“Your high horse is incredibly high. Impressive.”

It’s not a high horse, but it may appear that way to those wallering in the mud.

  13. Wufpacker 02/23/2013 at 6:09 PM #

If you think it’s as simple as Leslie in the game vs Leslie out of the game and the point differentials during each, then you’re looking at it way too simplistically.

“Facts”, as you state them, can be very misleading. Yeah, Calvin’s turnovers killed us in the first half. Not the same story in the second. And regardless, even if that were so, you cannot sit him the entire half. I don’t have the time or the desire to go into why that’s so, but it is so.

  14. lush 02/23/2013 at 6:09 PM #

Ehh, it sucks but we were gonna lose.

we don’t play defense and turn the ball over consistently. And we don’t win on the road or ever at unc.

It is infuriating to watch woo leave guys open and cj turn the ball over over and over again, but that’s not anything new. And it’s not going to change.

  15. Whiteshoes67 02/23/2013 at 6:10 PM #

Don’t count me among those throwing Leslie to the wolves, or rams

  16. wolf pack 02/23/2013 at 6:11 PM #

I agree i think we need cj but when the other team goes small and cj is having a bad day…then leave him out especially while we are having success.

  17. inhoc... 02/23/2013 at 6:12 PM #

i dont see leslie showing a poor attitude, but thats just me. he just does dumb shit sometimes and doesnt have his head in the game. obviously he needs to get his head out of his ass, but i dont necessarly see him acting like a selfish baby and throwing tantrums like thers who releas tweets and complain to the media.

  18. Wulfpack 02/23/2013 at 6:12 PM #

All my UNC buds are making fun of Gott for leaving Calvin in, so it ain’t just us. It was pretty apparent what was going on.

  19. DrWuffette1day 02/23/2013 at 6:12 PM #

    (sigh)

Players have bad days. Most of ours did. Coach Gott (again) earned his paycheck today.

I just thank god we have a “real” coach.

Not sure why Lewis didn’t get more time.

I’m so mad at our team and our upperclassmen Lowe culture of suctitude. I really don’t think they care. I almost want them to get the H&&& out and just go pro. If that’s what they want- GO. Don’t infect the young ones with their pathetic, selfish attitudes.

It’s not about hitting shots – it’s about creating your opportunities. We were playing as the commentator said “Hero” ball. Guys playing outside of their roles trying to make sportscenter.

Arrrrrgh. How did Bullock get 22 points?

  20. virginiawolf 02/23/2013 at 6:13 PM #

listening to Gott’s intervew … mentions “Scott getting tired and not making his last few 3’s andhe shold hve rested some of the players ” WTF …. where is the comment “CJ needs to get his head utof his ass nd play” or “I need to sit CJ’s ass on he bench more”. I like Gott … but he needs to speak up …. or is he just fraid of CJ?

  21. Wufpacker 02/23/2013 at 6:14 PM #

“All my UNC buds are making fun of Gott for leaving Calvin in…”

Well, the Gods of all that’s good and right have spoken then I guess. I stand corrected then (/sarcasm).

  22. tjfoose1 02/23/2013 at 6:16 PM #

I agree that CJ should have been held out more than he was, but I understand Gott’s thinking.

Gott wanted CJ to work through it, within this game, and come out of it before the game ended. That way, he’d be an asset in this game, and it would be done and over. He wouldn’t have to deal with the bleed over in the coming days and into the next game, where it could become a bigger issue.

    It didn’t work.

  23. DrWuffette1day 02/23/2013 at 6:17 PM #

    Virginiawolf,

Unlike Lowe, Gott doesn’t throw his players underneath the bus. This makes me like Gott more. THE TEAM sucked. NO PLAYER LEADERSHIP.

  24. Whiteshoes67 02/23/2013 at 6:17 PM #

See tjfoose’s comments above on Calvin. Well said, tj. The ball still didn’t go inside enough tonight in the second half

  25. MrPlywood 02/23/2013 at 6:18 PM #

“or is he just fraid of CJ”

Haha, yeah, that must be it. I remember a lot of hand wringing around here when Gott started calling Leslie “Calvin”… “ooooo, how will CJ take that. ooooo CJ might rebel… oh no, CJ might leave…”

Good lord. I’m done for the day.
