State UNC game thread

Since I started the game threads we are 3-0. Since I am obviously the reason we keep winning I will keep doing the game thread. Ironically I will not be watching the game or able to join the game thread as my wife committed me to attend her nephew’s daughter’s baptism. Sigh. That means someone else will need to carry on the nickname “Buckets” and start the new one “Player X”.

I have no idea how this game will go. They will be playing “small ball” and we will be looking to score in the paint. Whichever team is able to force their will on the other will win. We should be more consistent as we will not be relying on the three, so if UNC gets hot we need to minimize the damage and keep our heads. This will be a close but high scoring game. I think we win it 87-83.

It’s hard to coach and have success when your best players are moody and unreliable. Even Brown has not played very consistently or well all year, and CJ Leslie is a mess. You’re put in a very difficult position each and every game where you’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Gott will be really glad when CJL and some of these other headcases are gone.

  2. MrPlywood 02/23/2013 at 5:54 PM #

WOW, point shaving, asshat, cancer… the speed at which some of you turn on your “team” and CJ is mind boggling.

  3. Wulfpack 02/23/2013 at 5:54 PM #

Gott and Roy have very similar styles. Which one can get the better talent? Will be interesting to watch.

  4. tjfoose1 02/23/2013 at 5:54 PM #

Yep, as expected. Reactionary, fickle, dumbass fans. You all don’t deserve a winning team.

“I’d really like to see someone press Gottfried why the F he put CJ back in and.”

It’s not Gott’s fault CJ is a mess. If anything, CJ has come a lot further than he ever would have under Sid.

When a star player sucks, its not a bad idea to leave them in until they start producing. C’mon folks be reasonable. I’m just as pissed at Calvin for having his head in his a$$ but aside from a few turnovers he didnt really lose the game by himself.

I disagree re: Gott not an ingame upgrade over Lowe. Ya can’t sit Leslie completely, especially given our thin bench.

Gott tried a lot of different things today, most did not work. That doesn’t make him wrong for trying them.

Let me reiterate…we have a thin bench and you cannot sit Leslie the entire half even if we didn’t.

  7. Whiteshoes67 02/23/2013 at 5:55 PM #

Leslie sulks when things don’t go his way. Looked like Okie St all over.

  8. Wulfpack 02/23/2013 at 5:55 PM #

I say the heck with Leslie. If you can’t get up for the Holes, forget you. He has such a crappy attitude. I am sick of him.

  9. TLeo 02/23/2013 at 5:55 PM #

I really would like someone to press Gott afterwards as to why he doesnt know how to coach defense and why the hell put Leslie back in and screw up the entire game with his crap. He can be such a talent when he takes his head out of his ass but I swear, I think I will b glad to see him and his half assed attitude go.

oh wait, maybe I mistakenly logged on to IC.

“Just because many of you are too stupid to understand, that does not make Gott an idiot.”

Your high horse is incredibly high. Impressive.

And you’re right, UNC is not a very good team. Then again, neither is State…..

Everyone is so upset that state doesn get the respect it “deserves” from the media, when in reality, the losses to wake md and uva and now UNC say more than one signature win over Duke. We went 2-2 against the blues this year. I’d say thats average. And average is waaaay better than this team has been in a long time, and history says that.

If this team wants respect, it has to ge better and win the big games instead of blow them. All state has done this year is won a copule emotional games at home agains UNC and Duke, and then pissed everything else away because they lack composure. This. Is. NC STATE!!!!

  13. Wulfpack 02/23/2013 at 5:56 PM #

If Leslie wants to pull this, against your bitter rival, it is absolutely on the coach to deal with it then and there. K would have been in his grille.

  14. Alpha Wolf 02/23/2013 at 5:57 PM #

Blaming this loss on Mark Gottfried? Give it a rest.

How about CJ Leslie’s not showing up today, playing as if he *IS* the team once again?

Fact is, if State had a players only meeting after this, CJ would have a flat nose and two black eyes.

BINGO. Star player can’t shoot, can’t defend and can’t even hit a free throw. Kid’s like Bennie Bolton – when it was going good for him, he’s all world, but when it isn’t against top competition, he simply cannot find it within himself to strap it up in game and play a level higher.

That’s why CJL will be in the NBA D-League by the end of next season…if he doesn’t go straight there.

What killed us in the second half is rebounding. We cut down on turnovers. They picked up their intensity on rebounding.

We didn’t get many second chance points.

With all the shots we missed that hurt us.

  16. GoState91 02/23/2013 at 5:58 PM #

Double-digit loss to these Holes?!?! A lot of problems on this team. State basketball took a serious step back today. What a lost season.

  17. highstick 02/23/2013 at 5:58 PM #

I had a Hole tell me yesterday that the best thing we could do was let Lutz do the game day coaching and Gott recruit.

Not sure I’m there yet because I’m not seeing ANYONE coach this team to play D. I’d sit every damned one of them and forfeit games if they refuse to play defense…

  18. Alpha Wolf 02/23/2013 at 5:58 PM #

oh wait, maybe I mistakenly logged on to IC.

    Me too.

    What a lost season.

The final story hash’t been written.

You probably would have said the same thing in 1983 when State lost to UVA and Maryland on the road. They didn’t lose again.

  19. Wulfpack 02/23/2013 at 5:59 PM #

I think Calvin was just pissed Warren had a career day against FSU. What a cancer he is. Can’t wait for him to hit the road to the D league. Terrible attitude.

  20. wolf pack 02/23/2013 at 5:59 PM #

We took leslie out and went from down 10 to having the lead…we put leslie back in and we began to lose…bullock was getting rebounds over him…for whoever said that you can’t sit leslie for the half bc of our thin bench..you are wrong bud..they had a smaller line up…we could have sat him and…when we did we were winning..follow the facts…

  21. highstick 02/23/2013 at 6:00 PM #

Plywood, I don’t get on “band wagons” and have been skeptical all along so don’t include me in the “turning on” group. I’ve said “show me” all along and other than little flashes, no one has shown me much yet.

  22. Whiteshoes67 02/23/2013 at 6:00 PM #

Criticism of this team and the staff–even after a game–is hardly reactionary or fickle. This team’s weaknesses were exposed early in the year. Defensive question marks, poor rebounding, too many turnovers.

  23. Wulfpack 02/23/2013 at 6:00 PM #

Exactly, wolf pack. Pretty easy for everyone to see.

  24. Gene 02/23/2013 at 6:01 PM #

Wulfpack, I think Leslie’s pissed ’cause he went all in for Cindy Crawford’s cougar bait last night, but got turned down.

  25. Whiteshoes67 02/23/2013 at 6:01 PM #

No, the 1983 team in only the slimmest of ways resembles this one.
