For now, the NCAA’s findings are detailed here.

The penalties in this case include the following:

* Public reprimand and censure.

* Three years of probation from March 12, 2012, through March 11, 2015.

* Three-year show-cause penalty for the former assistant football coach prohibiting any recruiting activity. The public report contains further details.

* Postseason ban for the 2012 football season.

* Reduction of football scholarships by a total of 15 during three academic years. The public report includes further details.

* Vacation of wins during the 2008 and 2009 seasons (self-imposed by the university). The public report includes further details.

* $50,000 fine (self-imposed by the university).

* Disassociation of both the former tutor and former student-athlete who served as an agent runner (self-imposed by the university).

    I’m not sure what the NCAA means by the scholarship reductions. Based on what I read, it seems the important thing on the scholarships is that they have a cap of 80 per season for the three seasons. Instead of 85 players, they get 80 for those years.

    I personally don’t think it is that big of a hit. That’s effectively a 6% reduction.

    The “handing out 20” thing means that they can’t run a bunch of kids off, load up, run a bunch of kids off, load up, run a bunch of kids off and load up. It effectively means they can’t use the waiver wire as much as they might like.

    85/80 and 25/20.

    And Suavefort is correct. It ain’t as easy as it looks. Not USC difficult, 85/75 and
    25/15, but UNx isn’t exactly USC either.
