They’re back! NCAA officials back in Chapel Hill

They’re back!

Chapelboro.com is reporting that the NCAA is back on campus. We’re going to take a wild guess that they’re not delivering helmet stickers to individuals for outstanding play in the Heels’ triumph over Rutgers.

CHAPEL HILL – WCHL News has heard unconfirmed reports that NCAA investigators are back on campus this week, following up on recent developments surrounding the UNC football team.

Last month, WCHL reported that UNC’s African Studies Department had hired Carl Carey, Jr., as an adjunct professor to teach a course called Foundations of Black Education. Carey had taught the class previously, but the hire raised eyebrows because he’s also an active NFL agent, whose clients include former Tar Heel Julius Peppers.

It’s the gift that keeps on giving, Clark.

If… and certainly that’s a huge speculative “if”… African American Studies is the focus of this new investigation, it’s reasonable to believe that whatever wagons remain will indeed be circled to protect the sacred cow.

Here’s an update with the result being that it’s starting to look like nothing’s going to happen with the NCAA’s most recent visit to UNC.

It will be interesting to see who magically appears on UNC’s injury report.

    Love it!

This just proves that Carolina believes their current players are not involved. It doesn’t mean there is not another prong. Although, if they were only there for a day, that seems awfully quick.

UNX must be getting better and better at hiding their misdeeds.

TOS is claiming that three bigname hole players (one being Donte Paige-Moss and possibly Coples as well) are being questioned as to illegal benefits received from the suddenly well-to-do Robert Quinn; wonder if they will tweak hamstrings just prior to UVA…

    What is TOS?

Another NCAA visit must mean something more than just stopping by for a spot of tea! It’ll be interesting to see or hear what is going on. Most assurredly it is players getting more benefits!!! Oh, this is so much fun. Just as it starts to die down, something else occurs!

How in the world do you get that from that piece? UNC has been saying it is no big deal and will be over by Friday for 15 months now. You are taking their word about things

I’ll say this. It is NOT big national news. ESPN is NOT reporting it. SI.com is not reporting it, and as far as I am aware, this seems to be very local. If you remember when this whole story broke out in summer 2010, it was IMMEDIATELY national news. If the most recent development doesn’t become news until Monday (when UNC will respond to the allegations which will be NATIONAL news), then nothing will really come out of this most recent development. Other than funny feedback from UNC students on the most recent WRAL link I just posted which will definitely amuse all of us at SFN.

    Not true at all.

  12. Ashman87 09/15/2011 at 8:50 PM #

Really? I first found out about it on ESPN.

  13. Old MacDonald 09/15/2011 at 8:58 PM #

^ You should have been reading SFN then.

My point is that the NCAA apparently showed up yesterday — and details are very sketchy. Expecting the national guys to be on this within 36 hours is not realistic.

If ashman found out about the UNC scandel on ESPN he is obviously not a state fan. It was talked about on the boards long before it became a national story.

We don’t know whether it’s a big deal or not.

Some guys who have broken some very big scoop on PP are offering specifics – that’s a pretty bad sign for the Heels.

With regard to them stating they expect the full compliment of players:

-UNC isn’t dumb people. They know everyone was looking for magically injured people. They’re not going to say “well, we know we’re in trouble. We’ll see.”

-Let them all play! If they play their game and no wrongdoing is found, so be it. If they play their full compliment and somebody is retroactively ineligible, awesome.

-I think it’s entirely possible that the people involved in the program, thinking they’ll get hammered by the NCAA, are taking a go-for-broke approach. This season already has a shadow hanging over it and they’ve already got an interim coach who probably won’t leave for greener pastures regardless of how the season goes. If they’re liable to retroactively forfeit all of this season’s wins or something similar, why not play the most exciting football they can and try not to lose donors. If would you rather forfeit a 5 win season or a season where you won 8 games and went to a decent bowl when either way you’re maintaining this facade of doing nothing untoward and quietly cooperating? And if you don’t get hammered as bad as you thought, you still come out ahead of what you expected.

I’m assuming everybody over there is very smart and has no regard for right and wrong. That’s what I was raised to think of Tarheels.

GD, Ashman. I finally figured this sh!t out.

It’s taken a bit of thought, dedicated in fact.

Man, the salaciousness of your spoofs has got me hooked. You’re one intrinsic trickster.

You’ve had us goin’ left when we shoulda’ been goin’ right, north instead of south. Who was your inspiration? Lenny Bruce? No, ’87…uh…no, it’s clear…this is original stuff.

Let me see if I can find a link so everyone else can get what I’m talkin’ about.
    You’re good , dude.

OK. Found one that y’all should check out. Informative and cutting edge.
