State/Wake Forest Game Thread

OK, I’m not made of stone. Despite my earlier pledge, I can’t help myself – I will be watching today, and the next two weeks. We need a win today against an awful opponent, then two road wins against mediocre foes. Then, NC State will be Atlantic Division champions for the first time in the divisional era, with a shot to redeem themselves against a lackluster Virginia Tech squad for their first ACC title since the disco era.

If that happens, I will forgive Tom O’Brien for his idiotic decision to punt against Clemson, although it remains 110% indefensible. There’s no asterisk in the record books for being extremely lucky to have been bailed out by the Holes and Canes last week. Now, for God’s sake, please go out and take care of business. And let’s hope for no more meaningful late game “strategery” opportunities. Because I have a feeling we will end up with the same result.

Wake is lousy. This game will be a laugher. Watch only to see if there’s evidence of a focused Wolfpack squad, with a better killer instinct.

Hawthorne has done as good as we could have asked for him today. He and Leffler are Jrs right?

  3. chuckdachest 11/13/2010 at 5:03 PM #

Why the hell is RW still in???? This makes no sense TOB?!?!

  4. chuckdachest 11/13/2010 at 5:04 PM #

Show us what you got Glennon!

  5. BJD95 11/13/2010 at 5:04 PM #

Good, we are letting Glennon throw.

  6. chuckdachest 11/13/2010 at 5:06 PM #

    That’s what I was expecting!

  7. triadwolf 11/13/2010 at 5:07 PM #

Like to see Glennon make a couple touch throws; we all know he can zip it like those first two.

TD Washington!!! Lets get the starters all out the game now.

Why does the ESPN stats have Terell Manning with a 45 yard punt. Did I miss something?

Great win. Very ahppy for Lemon.

Very business-like second half, after a very slow, sloppy start.

Aubie/Georgia looks like a classic in the making.

    Go State! Beat UNC!

WOW! A thrashing of the Deacons….
is their D so bad or is this the way our O should have played??

At any rate an excellent confidence boooster for the next games!

  13. BJD95 11/13/2010 at 6:03 PM #

Maryland scored more than 60 on the Deacs.

  14. wvillepack 11/13/2010 at 6:18 PM #

We only had what, 3 or 4 possesions in 1st half?

  15. BJD95 11/13/2010 at 6:22 PM #

    Go Hokies!!!!

  16. BJD95 11/13/2010 at 6:35 PM #

19-10, VPI. But Hole defense has played well in the red zone. Hopefully not a harbinger of things to come next weekend. We need to face those fuckers unmotivated and flat.

Hokies need to win to give Holes one less reason to win next weekend. Rooting for both Virginia teams to win today. Can’t decide whether I want to be a game up on FSU or a half game up on Clemson though…

Congrats to fishing club team. Back to back champs. They now have two boats to sell. I know one of guys frequents this site. Weigh-in in parking lot outside game was a good idea.

Door slamming shut on the Holes. Yates has turned back into a pumpkin. Hope that trend continues.

If we can hang around unc in first half we have a chance. They are running out of gas today.

Before the season, I did not think we would beat VA Tech or Clempson, but boy we gave those games away. I also did not think we would beat GA Tech and I was not sure about Cincy, but we won those two. I thought we would beat EZU and we gave that one away as well. 7-3 is a very good season for us, and it can get better over the next 2 weeks. Way to bounce back today Pack and take care of business against a lesser team. Now focus on Bitch Slappin’ BMFCD and his gangstas for the fourth straight year. Cheaters are not supposed to win, so whip their asses in Kenan Stadium like it’s 2008! Congrats to the fishing team. Way to hook ’em boys! Went to Hoops game last night and we have a chance to be really good. See my notes on bball game thread on forum page.

^ Look at it this way: it is impossible for State to finish with a losing record now. If the worst were to happen, they finish 7-6. I don’t think that will happen, but I do think we will lose again.

In fact, I am officially very worried about UNC. Mediocre or not, they have had this game circled all season and we will get their best shot — and they aren’t that far away from being a very good team. We can and probably should win over there, but it will take a total effort from start to end, and with few mistakes and lapses. We surely cannot give the ball away like we did against and not tackle well on D and expect to win.

If we win against UNC, of course, it sets up a very meaningful game in Maryland for the right to go to Charlotte. Who would have thought that possible this year?

Speaking of Glennon: I thought he looked very sharp today and I LOVE the way he passes. It’s almost as if the ball has to slant slightly downwards from his passing hand to the receiver.

The kid made great decisions and great throws in his limited duty. And I told some guys beside me at the game that he is the QB on our squad with the real NFL potential. He seems to have all the physical tools — height, strong arm, etc — that Wilson doesn’t have.

Nothing against RW, mind you, but in my opinion, him getting a starting job as an NFL QB is a pipe dream and it all comes down to his height. If RW is getting his line of vision blocked in the pocket in college, there’s simply no way it will get any better for him at the next level. Sure, sure, Drew Brees is 5’11” too, but Brees also has a howitzer for an arm, and RW’s passes don’t even approach that level of precision and speed that Brees produces game in, game out.

Personally I think RW is the same type qb as Brees. Hes a long way from reaching that potential but at this point in their careers they are fairly similar. Whether he would get the same recognition and 2nd rd draft status is doubtful.
