NCAAT Saturday Round of 32 Open Thread (Geaux Tigers!)

Great games late last night – in terms of excitement. Not so great for the ACC, as Wake and BC got demolished and Florida State (much like Clemson) played half asleep for most of the game, and paid the price. 3-4 in the First Round for the “mighty” ACC – with 2 of the 3 wins against Radford and Binghamton. Gruesome stuff.

Your stat of the day is zero – the number of teams that NC State beat whose seasons are still alive today.

Back to ACC suckage – Miami got blown out at Florida last night, and Baylor demolished the Hokies in Blacksburg today. Even in the NIT, the league couldn’t do squat.

Challenge for the SFN community – come up with some bed shitting collapses to rival that of Wake Forest, who spent most of the year in the Top Ten, but got spanked in the first round of both the ACCT and NCAAT. The best I could come up with NC State in 1989 losing to a 1-13 Maryland team in the ACCT quarters. But that team rebounded to make the Sweet Sixteen before getting screwed on a bogus travelling call against Georgetown. So, I think Wake still wins.

5 team fouls on uncch with 11 to go in the half. That doesn’t happen…

  2. wolfonthehill 03/21/2009 at 5:03 PM #

Whiny-ass unc-ch fans don’t know how to take it when a game’s called right.

Oh, boy… Lawson’s out, and his shoe’s off… not sure I would’ve played him today… he’s obviously not ready. If he doesn’t come back, scratch my above comment regarding LSU’s chances (or lack thereof) today.

I too will join those pulling for Syracuse. I am sick and tired of the media propping up HWSNBN as a great coach! HWSNBN was and always will be average. We were not going to be competitive in the ACC (Duke and the Tarholes) with average. See what his team does next year without Harden (projected lottery pick) and Pendergraph (senior). If we were going to be happy with mediocre, we should have signed him to a lifetime contract.

I don’t think LSU matches up well with the Holes at all. It will probably be Holes vs. Sendek in the regional final, and the Wake County suicide rate will quadruple. 🙂

    Noah,
How do you shade what someone else has said so that you can direct a response?? I’ve just heard that Lo Brown was a good student that shouldn’t have any problem qualifying. Now, John Wall may be a different story….hence, Memphis.

I’m thinking this game’s gonna end a 25-point’ish blowout. Just don’t see LSU having answers for Psycho, Ellington, or the transition game.

    Michigan is playing fantastic defense.

Geaux Tigers! Then Hook ’em Horns later tonight.

Heels got 5 early fouls and went 15 minutes before getting a foul called again. Go LSU!!! I want this 2 be it for #50

Funny how the Holes look different when the officiating becomes legitimate and
it’s not Swofford’s convicts. Two blocks on Hanhole. Love it.

Once the blood starts flowing and adreneline kicks in, Lawson won’t feel that toe so much.

Coaching in the ACC is mediocre because UNC, Duke, and biased ACC officiating has run off many good coaches.

I’m floored by LSU coming out of the locker room and dominating the first few minutes of the second half… and it’s amazing that we consider the officiating legitimate when unc-ch still went 15 minutes without a foul called against them.

  14. BJD95 03/21/2009 at 6:13 PM #

Lawson at 80 percent is still really damned good.

  15. wolfonthehill 03/21/2009 at 6:22 PM #

LSU’s run was nice while it lasted. Just getting blown the f*&^ out now…

  16. wolfonthehill 03/21/2009 at 6:23 PM #

I’d kill for a Lawson at 50% to suit up for the Pack.

Make sure you watch the end of Purdue/Washington. The whole second half has been basketball at the highest level. Both teams playing great.

Ok alpha, I just checked back up there to read your response to my post. Fair enough. Mark that up as another really, CHEAP shot by THE artist around here, that gets totally implanted into everyone’s brains without any resistance. Oh well, I’m gone.

Hope you’re not talking about me, Fred. I’ve been working most of the day and haven’t been here for more than a drive-by comment from time to time…anyway, I’m not exactly sure what’s going on here.

  21. BJD95 03/21/2009 at 6:52 PM #

Really looking forward to WKU/Gonzaga tonight. Although I think the Holes are essentially getting a bye to the Elite Eight. Neither the Zags nor the Toppers are physical enough to bother UNC.

BJD95 – I just came on to post that exact sentiment about the WA/Purdue game. The energy and effort was amazing and inspiring. Non-stop action, great individual plays from Thomas on WA and Johnson on Purdue – just end to freaking end of all out basketball. I’m not sure that WA climbs back on without the “home” court advantage, but still, it was an excellent game to watch. That could be a training tape for any university team.

And well done to Darrion! That is a great achievement. Going through the bracket at Wrestling Nationals is a grueling affair. Someone get State to give Eloheim Palma over at Cary HIgh a call. He’s the #1 Ranked Heavyweight for all grade levels in the country, and just won in the Dapper Dan Classic in Pittsburgh, Pa. by defeating the #3 nationally ranked, two-time Pa. State finalist and Pa State champion Sean Owens from Clearfield, Pa. Palma is a monster. I heard that he’s visiting UNX. Ugh.

This is completely unrelated but Darrion Caldwell, the All American wrestler from NC State, just won the National Championship against Iowa’s Brent Metcalf. For those who don’t follow wrestling, this was a david vs. goliath match. Earlier in the year, Caldwell lost to Metcalf 19-3 (this was an unofficial match show it doesnt appera on the official records of the two wrestlers) Metcalf had won his last 69 matches and was the National wrestler of the year last year. It was a great win for Caldwell. Hope this cheers up my fellow pack fan who are disappointed with our basketball performance.

All the big powers holding serve. Does Texas have it in them?

I’ve got WKU over the Zags and the Heels waltz to the Elite 8, where they run into Oklahoma.

    I want Jeff c
Capel badly. And can we have the Griffin brothers as well?
