Saturday Football Open Thread (Updated 1:45pm)

Naturally, when the Pack finally gets a coveted Saturday night home game…all the good TV matchups are late starts (Alabama at Georgia being the highlight). I suppose UNC/Miami is somewhat interesting, in that a loss would almost surely knock the Holes out of Coastal Division contention. And a loss really should be the end result – but keep your fingers crossed.

Duke is a full touchdown favorite against an ACC foe (Virginia) today. How long has it been since you could say that? The Cavs really, really suck. So, naturally, they are not on NC State’s schedule this year just as Duke has not been on the Wolfpack’s schedule the last four years.

The “Observers” had good ‘observations’ in today’s papers:

* ACC bounces back: The ACC is gaining momentum after a disastrous opening weekend. Wins against East Carolina, Mississippi State and Texas A&M helped the ACC’s stature climb while the Pac-10 plummeted. Entering this week, the ACC ranked fourth among BCS conferences behind the SEC, Big Ten and Big 12 at realtimerpi.com.

* Refereeing stellar: We’re one-third of the way, and the ACC hasn’t had an officiating controversy yet. The refs usually only get mentioned when there’s a complaint. Let’s give them credit.

* ‘This ain’t intramurals, brother’: Colorado is 3-0 and coming off a big win against West Virginia under coach Dan Hawkins, who’s famous for his rant urging malcontents to play intramurals. The Buffaloes will be formidable for a Florida State team that looked awful on offense in a 12-3 loss to Wake Forest.

* Rivalries cooling?: Michael Jordan Nissan is advertising on Tom O’Brien’s N.C. State coach’s show. What’s happening to the rivalries? Next thing you know, the Tar Heel Radio Network will be running Mike Krzyzewski’s Duke Sports Medicine ads.

SFN always promotes that Wolfpack fans need to ‘get out there’ and experience other schools – as it relates to both athletics and general campus experiences – as often and as much as possible. In the following video about Georgia you get to hear about Vince Dooley boning some hot chick. You also learn that Georgia has 65 bars around campus. I don’t think all of Raleigh has 65 bars.

Damn nation, Ole Miss goes three and out. Fla is starting on their 22, with 2:05 left, one point down.

So they are now on ole Miss 32 – 4th down, 2, maybe three with 52 seconds. Of course, Myer insisted in a measurement, clock stopped, ect. Fla has one to left.

We’ve got to run out 41 seconds

  9. Noah 09/27/2008 at 2:54 PM #

    Cool. Hate Florida. Much hate.

Ole Miss must’ve gotten some hope recently. 🙂

    Congratulations, EverettBeez.

  13. Noah 09/27/2008 at 2:59 PM #

    Congratulations Ole Missers.

I would be happy if the only games that were broadcast were all State games and all SEC games. This has already been a crazy week of football.

Randy Shannon and Tommy Bowden won’t be around next year.

  15. EverettBeez 09/27/2008 at 3:05 PM #

    Thanks fellas –
Noah, you are exactly right – Nutt has talked repeatedly about having to teach these young men now to win, the confidence that they can. 4 previous years of futility, of being there on the cusp and then snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, took its toll. I think you saw that at Wake, though all credit to Wake who played an excellent game. This is the sort of win this program needed to turn the next page . . . I hope.

I am hoping that last week was the kind of win that State needed to turn its page and gain a good deal of confidence. We can win tonight. Things have to go right for us, we can’t beat ourselves – Ole Miss avoided that – so GO PACK!

Of all things, I got ESPNU last weekend, and this weekend I don’t. How is that for sorry?

  16. EverettBeez 09/27/2008 at 3:45 PM #

ECU is losing? They should be down big, but Houston can’t get the ball in the endzone.
    Wake is losing as well?
    Good grief.
Both in the 2ndQ for you all not watching.
Auburn looks awful, hehehe. Tenn looks worse.

  17. b 09/27/2008 at 3:48 PM #

Crompton is a chump, that’s at least one sorry QB that we dodged. I bet the Vols wish they had given Cutcliffe that extension now. Starting to look like he was the man behind the curtain the whole time.

  18. Dogbreath 09/27/2008 at 3:52 PM #

Wake is a national championship contender as of today. Stand back and reflect on that for a moment.

  19. b 09/27/2008 at 3:53 PM #

Ev, congrats to the Rebels. Stupid razorpigs deserve what they have gotten. Maybe the Right Reverend does now a thing or three about football after all. Can’t say I expected them to beat UF but I’m not surprised they are vastly improved.

  20. PackerInRussia 09/27/2008 at 4:12 PM #

That reflection didn’t last long as I noticed that Wake is down 17-0 at the half.

  21. PackerInRussia 09/27/2008 at 4:14 PM #

Oh yeah, and…Houston, we have a problem.

  22. RBCRowdy 09/27/2008 at 5:31 PM #

StateFans, DogBreath, VAFan85 someone cut that account.^

I see they are well educated at USF

The odds are against that troll ever stepping on a college campus.

USF Bulls’ mom’s name is Karma? Didn’t know that before…

Any ways to listen/watch the game on the internet? I’ve been in Louisiana or Texas working since August 30 due to the hurricanes and am living out of a truck. I did get an air/data card for my laptop though! Anyways, hoping to find a way to enjoy the game.

  25. WolfInVolCountry 09/27/2008 at 6:25 PM #

Anybody got a streaming audio link to the game? Would love to listen.
