NCAAT Thursday Thread

I’m just about ready to head home and watch the action. Georgia/Xavier could be interesting, and Michigan State/Temple could be a combined 90-point effort. Purdue/Baylor is an interesting 2:55 matchup.

Friday, of course, is our big day where “ORANGEfansNation” will be in full effect. Go Vols! Go Longhorns!… I will be live blogging the Clemson/Nova game tomorrow night. Hold that Tiger!

It’s hard to tell if a coach from Xavier would be successful or not here. 3 coaches from Xavier have coached in the ACC – 2 haven’t been successful.

Miller has ACC experience and extensive contacts though – but you can’t say that he’s proven himself to be an exceptional coach from his experience at Xaiver. Still, you can’t really criticize the next person who hires Miller based on his experience. Quite frankly, it’s a logical move.

I’m pulling for Kentucky because of Billy G… man, what a classy guy. I wish we could have grabbed him. I only have them winning this one game, but in 1-2 years they’re going to be a sweet 16 team again.

^^^”Where as Coach likes multi-positional players”

where does this train of thought come from? we dont even have players who can play 1 position well or even sufficiently, let alone multiple positions?

  4. BJD95 03/20/2008 at 3:28 PM #

Some boring-assed basketball in the early sessions. Let’s hope things pick up.

    and let the transfers begin!!!

who else was recuiting Horner when he signed with State?

  6. BJD95 03/20/2008 at 3:34 PM #

Gillispie’s kids sure are fighting hard.

  7. packbackr04 03/20/2008 at 3:39 PM #

fighting? hard? im not sure what that means. all i saw this yr from my team was roll over and die at the first sign of adversity

  8. BJD95 03/20/2008 at 3:39 PM #

If Horner leaves, you can guarantee that Fells plays the 3, and that Simon Harris must be in the frontcourt rotation (after Costner, McCauley, and Smith).

I really thought that there was a chance Horner would bulk up enough after a couple of years on the weights to play some 4. The pump fake mainly pissed me off because it reminded me so much of Damien Wilkins.

^^^^who else was recuiting Horner when he signed with State?

The main one was Beilein at West Virginia (now Michigan). Maybe he ends up there??? I doubt he fits into Thuggins’ system too well.

The pump fake is sooooo 80’s. Who, with any basketball sense, does not realize a quick, aggressive move to the hoop is much more effective than the damn pump fake? I gave that shit up in like 7th grade. Duh.

The early games have been really … mehhhh 🙁

I’m trying to get ready for the 3-pt. fest that will be DOOOOOK vs. BELMENT … let’s go Bruins

I hope the night session at least offers a couple of close games … UK – Marquette and Xavier – UGa have been the only somewhat decent games so far

    go tigers!

  13. wufpup76 03/20/2008 at 4:06 PM #

    ^ooops, Belment / Belmont … same thing 😉

  14. Trip 03/20/2008 at 4:12 PM #

    GO BEARS GO

Those (GA/X and KY/Marq) games were close, but almost unwatchable offensive performances. The 5:00 matchup is interesting in that it involves two teams with singular nicknames (Cardinal vs. Big Red).

Sean Miller has done a fabulous job at Xavier. I would welcome him with open arms. When is the last time NC STATE was a conference champion and #3 seed in the tournament? Remember, this is Xavier. Not a ton of resources there.

I know it’s very early, but the Big East is 2-0 and the SEC is 0-2.

We will have 7 guards (including Mays and Williams) and only four front court players and if Horner, Hickson and Grant are gone.

  18. BJD95 03/20/2008 at 5:40 PM #

Hard to believe, but the basketball has gotten even shittier!

  19. JeremyH 03/20/2008 at 5:41 PM #

I think I must have missed the games when he started to stink, because for at least the first third DH was one of my fav players. He was one of the few that a midrange game AND knock down the three. I would rather see at least one of two non-ACC caliber guards going, because there will be a logjam there anyway. Interesting that if this is true, then we will have completed the wash of 0 recruits from the 06-07 campaign, since Werner and Davis backed out. Dangit.

  20. mafpack 03/20/2008 at 5:42 PM #

PAP – And those numbers are about right based on the play style that most teams are adopting now days. 1 2 and 3s are all played by guards now with the 4 sometimes going to what used to be a 3 and only 1 big man on the court at a time in the 5.

    Just a thought.

I wonder what the Pack would have looked like this year if Belmont’s coaching staff was coaching them. State would have won at home if the refs for the Dook/Belmont game were reffing that game. This crew got the fore arm shiver call on Henderson correct.

  22. wufpup76 03/20/2008 at 6:44 PM #

I was trying to hold off on making a post for fear of jinxing them, they are playing so well (Belmont) 🙂

The free throw procession has started for Dooooook though … It’s 35-30, and Doooook has scored their last 7 points from the line … typical

  23. MrPlywood 03/20/2008 at 6:58 PM #

I cannot stand the way Dook plays, looking for the flop at all times. Ya gotta think the Dookies actually practice that. I turn on the game and there’s Scheyer going down on minimal contact. Contrast that with the WASU/Winthrop game, where the refs are letting just about everything go – but at least it’s both ways.

  24. wufpup76 03/20/2008 at 7:36 PM #

Belmont makes a run to cut it to 1 pt. and the cheap fouls have been called in droves against Belmont for the past couple of minutes …

give ’em a chance refs! … or at least call it on both ends 1 out of 3 trips down the court

  25. JeremyH 03/20/2008 at 7:40 PM #

    woooh Belmont!
