bjd—the doc holliday idea is intriguing—he has great respect among the high school coaches in the state—as well as in florida—however—i believe that fowler will not turn over both the football coach and the basketball coach in the same year–all offensive coaches with the exception of portee will be let go

So now on to ABC to cheer on another team in a uniform that vaguely resembles NC State

The decision to go for it with 2:31 left in the game and with all 3 timeouts remaining was the worst decision I have ever witnessed by a college football coach. We should have punted the ball away and we would have gotten the ball back with over 2 minutes remaining. UNC would have ran the ball 3 times, and we had held them 3 and out on the previous possession. What was Chuckie thinking??? This guy sucks, and needs to be fired immediately. We should hire Norm Chou or Steve Spurrier. Don’t laugh at me mentioning Spurrier. If we write the check, he will come!!!

When my girlfriend’s dad, a UNC grad, came walking in after his golf round today at the beginning of the second half and asked how it was going so far–I said, “The head coach that’s not good enough for you guys is out-coaching the one we’re stuck with!” And that has happened in this game the last three years running (remember him spreading his O-linemen farther apart last year so that Mario and Manny were rushing from farther off the edge, which then opened up huge holes for their run game because CTC REFUSED to line up our ends inside their tackles?)!

I agree that Chuck HAS to be gone now, but Bill Cowher at the end of this season is an absolute pipe dream. Norm Chow would be a GREAT choice, and he wants to come–but if Fowler is in charge of the search I don’t think there is any way that the deal will get done. Which is also saying something because even Dick Baddour can name his top choice and go out and get the deal done in less than two weeks!

Oh yeah, and I’m starting to think the only way we have a chance of putting up points next week is if we just put Marcus in and run the option all day!

DE has been throwing into just as many double and triple coverages in the last four weeks as Stone ever did!

And did anyone catch the play where Marcus was wide open in the end zone (by the left sideline) and Daniel just throwing the ball out of the back of the end zone?

I am too young to know any different. I’ve only really known CTC Pack football, but I have to say losing this much sucks so bad that I can’t beleive its true. Our offensive is so below acceptible that it doesn’t even resemble Div. 1A football.
If Chuck comes back next year he has such a huge hill to climb that I hope he can keep things from getting worse. Honestly I can see this team doing worse w/o Tyler anchoring the DL and Davis gone from a secondary that is expected to play alot of man coverage. The powers that be need to take a good long look at the state of the football program (or hire a consulting firm) and determine if that resources put forth representing NC State football will be better managed by someone other than Chuck. I don’t mean the fundage and fieldhouses ect. I mean the stundent athletes who are already participating or plan to. I don’t care if this season was a rebuilding season according to whomever.
Please shoot me down if I’m wrong any one out there, but this is very near rock bottom for many programs, but if things continue on this steady decending pitch then the program may fall into something very pityfull before long. My point is not be a prognosticator but to call to attention that Oblinger can help these players out or let them ride this out. Being a fan of the NC State “nation” is being a follower and beleiver of these gifted student athletes. Its not to just to go “rah-rah” or “boo” when ever the feeling is right.

    Um, this is not pretty.

    Will heads roll?

    Should they roll?

I’m to upset to see clearly.

    But, something has to happen…

We are going to screw around and let Duke fire Roof and hire Chow before we get the chance. I have several Duke friends who are pushing Alleva and Duke to fire Roof and hire Chow. Chow has let it be known that he wants to be a head coach and has even said he would consider Duke. WE NEED TO MOVE ON HIM NOW like Carolina did Davis………I HOPE YOU CAN READ THIS FOWLER and OBLINGER!!!

^^”The decision to go for it with 2:31 left in the game and with all 3 timeouts remaining was the worst decision I have ever witnessed by a college football coach.”
Truthfully, that’s a tough one, but the truth is that if the team hadn’t played so freakin’ awful, we would have never been in that situation.

  10. drhammondo 11/18/2006 at 4:59 PM #

Wow…anyone else listening to the radio right now? Did Tony Haynes REALLY just put this loss on Dejuan Morgan for not making an interception that was in his hands that COULD have been returned for a touchdown?

There’s no way that we should have been in position for that to have been the play we needed to win against this year’s version of the Tarheels!

This was team that gave up 512 yards of total offense to FURMAN! OVER 500 YARDS TO A D-IAA SCHOOL!!! And our offense was able to get just over 200 and only 9 points!!!

  11. NCSUDude17 11/18/2006 at 5:02 PM #

Fowler won’t pull the trigger, he will wait for Butch to beat him once or twice before he finally fires him.

  12. richdail 11/18/2006 at 5:02 PM #

“I give it 24 hours before we get a statement saying Fowler and co. are 100% behind Amato.”

You are probably right, however, I’m not sure that Lee and the big boosters were ever as fond of Chuck as they were of Herb. And Herb was at least getting us into the postseason.

  13. codsack 11/18/2006 at 5:03 PM #

I agree with DRW….the only way Chuckie is dismissed is if donors like Murphy or Stroud put the heat on Lee Fowler and Bobby Purcell. You let ole Wendell call those guys and start bitching…Chuckie is TOAST then. However, Lee doesn’t have the gonads to fire Chuckie on his own.

As sad as it is…Amato will be here next year. Carolina wanted that game much more than State from the get go…and they played smarter than State. There was no enthusiasm what so ever on the State side line, and CTC didn’t look the least bit fired up himself. If State plays like this and CTC doesn’t get these boys ready to play some SMART football with some HEART…then ECU is going to murder us next weekend.

CTC will be here next year, and if it’s with Trestman as OC…then me and my family won’t be there with our four seats. It’s gotten beyond frustrating. Enough of the excuses….SCORE SOME POINTS!!!

  15. graywolf 11/18/2006 at 5:13 PM #

And it continues…….who will be the next coach at NC State?
If its still Chuck Amato, next year will be really ugly.
Heck, its going to be ugly next week when they introduce him against ECU.

  16. jaxpacker 11/18/2006 at 5:14 PM #

Deja vu all over again….I’m just so sick of seeing this kind of football.

When Chuck arrived I didn’t expect to win every game, but I thought we would see an exciting, fun brand of football – Hard-hitting, tough defense and wide-open ofense. At first that was the case. And then Philip graduateed.

Frankly, what we’ve seen this year is worse than any of Mike O’Cain’s years coaching the team. Usually during a losing streak you see improvement, but I just don’t see it happening. Perhaps some of you with a more critical football eye can speak up. Instead we get one excuse after another about poor player execution but I think more of it really poor coaching:

    1) continually outcoached, expecially unable to make half-time adjustments.
    2) team discipline, stupid mistakes have caused many costly penalties. We have to be one of the most penalized teams in the conference.
    3) predictable offense. do we ever surpise anybody?
    4) team readiness – often players are out of position or look lost in space.

ECU is going to be foaming at the mouth. I hope Chuck can get it together one more time. This could be embarrassing if he doesn’t.

    Saddly,

    Jaxpacker

  18. Running Wolf 11/18/2006 at 5:22 PM #

I say if Bill Cowher, Norm Chow or Doc Holiday are not interested then maybe we should look at Philip River’s dad….Steve Rivers…Great High School Coach…Any thoughts?

  19. LRM 11/18/2006 at 5:24 PM #

does anyone else see the irony in the fact that usually we don’t have any timeouts to use at the end of the game…but today we had all three and decided not to punt and use them?

  20. NCSUDude17 11/18/2006 at 5:25 PM #

    Running Wolf:

We need to look at Paul Johnson if Cowher and Chow turn us down, ahead of Holiday

  21. Running Wolf 11/18/2006 at 5:27 PM #

Paul Johnson is another great choice and I would put him in the mix…Great reminder NCSUDude17!!!!!!!

  22. Wulfpack 11/18/2006 at 5:30 PM #

“You are probably right, however, I’m not sure that Lee and the big boosters were ever as fond of Chuck as they were of Herb. And Herb was at least getting us into the postseason.”

Herb never finished dead last in the conference. Our football program is in the tank. We just flat out stink. If a change isn’t made, I will never attend another game as long as this clown is in charge. Great guy, great heart, but no leadership.

  23. 98st8 11/18/2006 at 5:31 PM #

I am waiting for the headline that says “Amato resigns for the good of the program”… Chuck you gave it your best…we appreciate the loyalty, but Bobby will take you back

  24. Cardiff Giant 11/18/2006 at 5:32 PM #

I agree, we need to look at Paul Johnson.

  25. wvillepack 11/18/2006 at 5:33 PM #

Look at past history. We only beat the heels once out of every 3 or 4 tries. Doesn’t matter about teams records. Doesn’t matter who the coach is. We need a coach to get us out of this mediocrity.
