Updated: Amato’s Remarks Go National

Perhaps this will stretch out into a three day story. In any event, we check in at #5 in ESPN.com’s “Bottom 10”. I must admit that the logo (wolf wearing gaudy sunglasses) is pretty clever.

Think that is bad? Try this one on for size. Fresno State head coach Pat Hill ripped into Amato yesterday.

“Why don’t we play a game?” Fresno State’s coach said on Tuesday night. “Just tell him instead of talking — if they want to talk about us, then let’s play. Play us in Boise. See if they want to do that because if they have dates available, say we’re available to play.

“Just to let ’em know so they won’t have any excuses, we won’t have any [non-qualifiers], we don’t have any junior-college transfers and our APR is very, very good.

“So if they want to play against a school that doesn’t have all those advantages like they think we do, they oughta want to play.”

Also Terry Pluto of the Akron Beacon Journal rips Amato saying “N.C. State coach lacks facts“.

Isn’t this alot of attention for a program that hasn’t been nationally relevant since the heartbreaking 2003 loss at Ohio State?

Chuck is becoming an embarassament. Not only can’t he coach his way out of a paperbag, he is a PR nightmare!!!

I think that Amato and Fowler should step to the plate and schedule Fresno State to a home and home. It would generate some positive exposure out of this mess.

See the thread Major Imbalance at the N&O. Been well discussed. We’ve all seen it. We just choose not to respond. The N&O has absolutely no journalistic integrity. I’ll stick up for Chuck on that.

  6. packbackr04 09/13/2006 at 11:30 AM #

agreed no journalistic integrity, but kinda funny none the less

  7. packpigskinfan23 09/13/2006 at 11:36 AM #

the N&O cartoon is horrible… even if you dont like chuck, its sad that something like that is put out by our states biggest paper… I could understand if this were just some crap on myspace or youtube… but this is where we get our “news”

and the fact that they keep advertising it really pisses me off… and this was all BEFORE this Akron crap…

“Why look at the former bb coach, were regular pals.”

    “How about a Fresca?”

W Murphy, wife his, and elite friend, downstairs, waiting for a very private afternoon tea, just with a select group of insiders.

All the while, out dated “Bushwood CC” is getting ready to be bulldozed by some not so sophisticated, but foward thinking, outsiders.

Admittedly, it’s a stretch, but it’s also eerily similar.

nice redfred^ “well the world needs ditchdiggers too”

On Sunday, my wife’s brother said that this loss would be better for State football in the long run, because we’d fire Chuck and hire someone better. At the time, I thought he obviously doesn’t understand the situation with our administration and AD. I suddenly had visions of Fowler trying to hire some big name, successful coach, and when that failed, turning someone with name recognition, but limited success. Like Jim Donnan. The parallels to Steve Lavin are pretty close:

Both had decent success in programs that expected much more. Both were replaced by better coaches.

So, I thought, no way should fire Chuck. After reading some of these comments, added to all of the penalties and turnovers that last 2+ years, I’m not so sure.

The admin. is kinda outdated. Dinosaurs have more technical skills and they’re more approachable anyway.

Foward thinking, fresh blood, involved in every detail and at the lowest levels of all working aspects with regards to athletics. Hell, give LF an unlimited martini voucher for him and his buddies. Let him continue to do the smoozing, and keep him around for his connections. But get someone in here who has the balls to get totally involved and request changes, before a major change in personel is the one and the only option left.

Just do something in advance to stop the bleeding before it hits a major artery. ONE FREAKIN TIME!

This university’s leadership is making it a living lesson in history. NCSU athletics going to be real living history shortly too, it’s too close already, if someone doesn’t derail it from this stinking monorail we’re traveling on.

If I’m wrong or getting too far off course, just say RF, STFU.

Just to clarify, I meant after reading Chuck’s comments.

  15. bTHEredterror 09/13/2006 at 12:44 PM #

Before Chuck’s boneheaded. sour grapes statement, I felt we should bear with him, and also felt the administration would retain him. But I just watched the Akron coach on Cold Pizza, who by the way was classy and didn’t pile it on Chuck, and I am of this mindset. Chuck better not F up the rest of the year, on the field, after the games, with player off field issues, anything. I almost think sometimes he is trying to get fired.

This is off this topic but I just learned that the NCAA didn’t come up with the shorter game?faster clock rules. There is a committee of coaches that comes up with, it gets voted on by all, and then the NCAA enforces the rules.

The ACC has two people on the coaches committee.

    Beamer and Amato.

I don’t know what the problem is. Chuck finally got his team nationally ranked. Number 5 – wow!

  18. WolfpackSteelerfan 09/13/2006 at 1:09 PM #

Maybe we should hire the Akron coach.

  19. Kingfish76 09/13/2006 at 1:28 PM #

Actually, it’s all a conspiracy. Chuckie finally screws up so royally that he gets a nice buyout, and we bring in Cowher! Conspiracy theories make me feel better, regardless of their authenticity.

  20. redfred2 09/13/2006 at 1:56 PM #

“I almost think sometimes he is trying to get fired.”

Tall order. Nobody’s been able to accomplish that one yet. It may require more talent than the actual coaching. It seems to be less do-able, anyway.

(Not really refering to just CA in that comment.)

  21. cfpack03 09/13/2006 at 2:26 PM #

So we had a bball coach who was emotionless to a fault, a fball coach who is emotional to a fault, and an administration who is indifferent.

    1 down, 2 to go?

  22. Wulfpack 09/13/2006 at 3:18 PM #

“I almost think sometimes he is trying to get fired.

I said the same thing yesterday. I’m dead serious about this. If Chuck can’t see that his behavior is utterly embarrassing to the NC State community, that this Akron crap has done nothing but make him look a helpless fool, then he has got to be the stupidest, leas informed most arrogant man alive. Honestly. This is a freaking joke. He’s the clown of the town. Everyone’s laughing at him and he’s serious as hell. Hell I bet our AD is really getting a kick out of all of this. That’s how freaking backward we are right now.

  23. redfred2 09/13/2006 at 3:20 PM #

Chuck’s emotion is a good thing, he just needs to lay off of the Jack Lalanne vitamin packs for awhile. The ones containing the recently approved vitamins STFU #69, for senior citizens and special male enchancement in the pec….toral region. They’re mood altering and have been linked already. Barry Bonds’ car is littered with wrappers.

  24. GoldenChain 09/13/2006 at 3:40 PM #

Every time I tell myself that it cannot become more torturous to be a State fan……..it does!

  25. GoldenChain 09/13/2006 at 3:44 PM #

I didn’t realize that the NCAA forced us to play teams with non-qualifiers, I thought it was a choice. Frankly I can’t tell that the quality of our play changes whether we play teams with non-qualifiers or not.
Maybe we’ve all missed it and Chuck is cracking and WANTS to be fired.
Sorry Chuck, your punishment is to stay!
