That was one giant last nail in Amato’s coffin.

  2. 2 DRWNo Gravatar

Chuck needs to resign today. He is by far the worst game day coach I have ever seen. If NC State cares at all about football, he needs to go.

  3. 3 tvpNo Gravatar

He can’t survive this, can he?

  4. 4 DRWNo Gravatar

wolfpack: I don’t know that is the final nail. Does our adminstration care? Can you see Fowler actually firing someone?

  5. 5 ktpritchNo Gravatar

    disgusting

  6. 6 wvillepackNo Gravatar

How long are we going to put up with coaches that lose to down and out rival teams? There is no excuse for today. Losing to ECU next week will really be embarrassing. Fire Amato!!!!!!!!!

  7. 7 sholtzmaNo Gravatar

I didn’t see the Clemson game, so I am taking the word of those who did that our O-line played pretty well. But today, they (again) sucked. That’s about all I can say. Hard to run, hard to throw, hard to avoid getting sacked, hard for a play to develop–if your O-line sucks. Couldn’t quite tell from TV how much of the problem was the tackles, but that wouldn’t be anything new.

Just curious. Do we have any help coming on the line next year, or we doomed to another season of no-offense football? Because that is what it will be, I don’t care who the quarterback is. Perhaps a Burke or Beck will do a better job than Evans; perhaps not. But the offense as a whole will continue to go nowhere without an O-line.

    DRW

I have to believe that EVERYONE from EVERY school in this country knows that this should be the end. Everyone saw the mismanagement, nay, lack of any management whatsoever in today’s game. How could he not be fired?? Oh, wait, yeah, I get your point now. Our spineless jellyfish of an AD will probably let it go.

  9. 9 BJD95No Gravatar

You can sum up the State/UNC series in one sentence - “Their shitty coach outsmarted our shitty coach.”

  10. 10 98st8No Gravatar

OUR COACH JUST GOT OUTCOACHED BY A GUY THAT HAS BEEN FIRED FOR A MONTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BOOOOOOOOOO BOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  11. 11 DRWNo Gravatar

wolfpack: Amato will only be fired if the big time donors like Murphy, Stroud, Dail, et al make it happen. Do they care about the losing?

  12. 12 jbwbubbaNo Gravatar

I give it 24 hours before we get a statement saying Fowler and co. are 100% behind Amato.

  13. 13 98st8No Gravatar

unc has higher expectations for their program than we do…. bottom line

  14. 14 bb1983No Gravatar

Im pretty sure I just saw Chuck cry on TV. It was hard to tell with the glasses, but his facial expression looked a lot like he was crying

  15. 15 wolfpackbballNo Gravatar

I even feel like if this group is left in charge, why the hell would anyone care anymore. Those who should be looking out for the best interests of this university are doing such a sorry job that it is mind-boggling.

  16. 16 BJD95No Gravatar

    BJD’s short list:

    1) Bill Cowher
    2) Norm Chow
    3) Doc Holliday

  17. 17 wolfpackbballNo Gravatar

when we lose to this year’s tarholes, and our kicker is the player of the game, that speaks volumes.

  18. 18 bb1983No Gravatar

How about we hire John Bunting just to make my day that much more fun…

  19. 19 SixPackNo Gravatar

Has anyone seen this pattern before ?

    1) We are favored.
    2) We don’t score in the first quarter and end up being outplayed and behind at the half.
    3) We get the ball on the opening 2nd half kick and do nothing with it.
    4) Make a little bit of a surge in the fourth qtr only to fall short again
with a final inteception to kill the drive.

Not to mention: 11 penalties (2 for illegal formations…after 11 games) and no touchdowns…as usual.

And JED will be waiting with a contract extension for CTC after the loss to EZU next week !!!!!!

    I HAD ENOUGH CHUCK-BALL !!!!

  20. 20 98st8No Gravatar

    NORM CHOW….NORM CHOW….NORM CHOW… NOW!!!!!!!!!!

  21. 21 Cardiff GiantNo Gravatar

“Im pretty sure I just saw Chuck cry on TV. It was hard to tell with the glasses, but his facial expression looked a lot like he was crying.”

I thought so too. He’s probably crying because he knows he’s headed to the unemployment line. Just one more bad loss to the Greenville Hicks to make the disaster complete.

  22. 22 NCBPNo Gravatar

we better get someone in there FAST as Butch Davis will most likely continue the beatings for several yrs. to come

  23. 23 bb1983No Gravatar

NCSU All Star coaching staff - and it saves Fowler from having to fire Chuck.

    Head Coach - Bill Cowher
    OC - Norm Chow
    DC - Chuck

  24. 24 SixPackNo Gravatar

CTC was crying because he feels so thankful that even after another embarrassing display of ineptness JED will cut him a break !!!!

  25. 25 tlk1969No Gravatar

UpChuck Amato must , MUST, !!MUST!! GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. 26 brown pelicanNo Gravatar

bjd—the doc holliday idea is intriguing—he has great respect among the high school coaches in the state—as well as in florida—however—i believe that fowler will not turn over both the football coach and the basketball coach in the same year–all offensive coaches with the exception of portee will be let go

  27. 27 bb1983No Gravatar

So now on to ABC to cheer on another team in a uniform that vaguely resembles NC State

  28. 28 codsackNo Gravatar

The decision to go for it with 2:31 left in the game and with all 3 timeouts remaining was the worst decision I have ever witnessed by a college football coach. We should have punted the ball away and we would have gotten the ball back with over 2 minutes remaining. UNC would have ran the ball 3 times, and we had held them 3 and out on the previous possession. What was Chuckie thinking??? This guy sucks, and needs to be fired immediately. We should hire Norm Chou or Steve Spurrier. Don’t laugh at me mentioning Spurrier. If we write the check, he will come!!!

  29. 29 drhammondoNo Gravatar

When my girlfriend’s dad, a UNC grad, came walking in after his golf round today at the beginning of the second half and asked how it was going so far–I said, “The head coach that’s not good enough for you guys is out-coaching the one we’re stuck with!” And that has happened in this game the last three years running (remember him spreading his O-linemen farther apart last year so that Mario and Manny were rushing from farther off the edge, which then opened up huge holes for their run game because CTC REFUSED to line up our ends inside their tackles?)!

I agree that Chuck HAS to be gone now, but Bill Cowher at the end of this season is an absolute pipe dream. Norm Chow would be a GREAT choice, and he wants to come–but if Fowler is in charge of the search I don’t think there is any way that the deal will get done. Which is also saying something because even Dick Baddour can name his top choice and go out and get the deal done in less than two weeks!

  30. 30 drhammondoNo Gravatar

Oh yeah, and I’m starting to think the only way we have a chance of putting up points next week is if we just put Marcus in and run the option all day!

DE has been throwing into just as many double and triple coverages in the last four weeks as Stone ever did!

And did anyone catch the play where Marcus was wide open in the end zone (by the left sideline) and Daniel just throwing the ball out of the back of the end zone?

  31. 31 vtpackfanNo Gravatar

I am too young to know any different. I’ve only really known CTC Pack football, but I have to say losing this much sucks so bad that I can’t beleive its true. Our offensive is so below acceptible that it doesn’t even resemble Div. 1A football.
If Chuck comes back next year he has such a huge hill to climb that I hope he can keep things from getting worse. Honestly I can see this team doing worse w/o Tyler anchoring the DL and Davis gone from a secondary that is expected to play alot of man coverage. The powers that be need to take a good long look at the state of the football program (or hire a consulting firm) and determine if that resources put forth representing NC State football will be better managed by someone other than Chuck. I don’t mean the fundage and fieldhouses ect. I mean the stundent athletes who are already participating or plan to. I don’t care if this season was a rebuilding season according to whomever.
Please shoot me down if I’m wrong any one out there, but this is very near rock bottom for many programs, but if things continue on this steady decending pitch then the program may fall into something very pityfull before long. My point is not be a prognosticator but to call to attention that Oblinger can help these players out or let them ride this out. Being a fan of the NC State “nation” is being a follower and beleiver of these gifted student athletes. Its not to just to go “rah-rah” or “boo” when ever the feeling is right.

  32. 32 jeffsp12No Gravatar

    Um, this is not pretty.

    Will heads roll?

    Should they roll?

I’m to upset to see clearly.

    But, something has to happen…

  33. 33 codsackNo Gravatar

We are going to screw around and let Duke fire Roof and hire Chow before we get the chance. I have several Duke friends who are pushing Alleva and Duke to fire Roof and hire Chow. Chow has let it be known that he wants to be a head coach and has even said he would consider Duke. WE NEED TO MOVE ON HIM NOW like Carolina did Davis………I HOPE YOU CAN READ THIS FOWLER and OBLINGER!!!

  34. 34 TNCSUNo Gravatar

^^”The decision to go for it with 2:31 left in the game and with all 3 timeouts remaining was the worst decision I have ever witnessed by a college football coach.”
Truthfully, that’s a tough one, but the truth is that if the team hadn’t played so freakin’ awful, we would have never been in that situation.

  35. 35 drhammondoNo Gravatar

Wow…anyone else listening to the radio right now? Did Tony Haynes REALLY just put this loss on Dejuan Morgan for not making an interception that was in his hands that COULD have been returned for a touchdown?

There’s no way that we should have been in position for that to have been the play we needed to win against this year’s version of the Tarheels!

This was team that gave up 512 yards of total offense to FURMAN! OVER 500 YARDS TO A D-IAA SCHOOL!!! And our offense was able to get just over 200 and only 9 points!!!

  36. 36 NCSUDude17No Gravatar

Fowler won’t pull the trigger, he will wait for Butch to beat him once or twice before he finally fires him.

  37. 37 richdailNo Gravatar

“I give it 24 hours before we get a statement saying Fowler and co. are 100% behind Amato.”

You are probably right, however, I’m not sure that Lee and the big boosters were ever as fond of Chuck as they were of Herb. And Herb was at least getting us into the postseason.

  38. 38 codsackNo Gravatar

I agree with DRW….the only way Chuckie is dismissed is if donors like Murphy or Stroud put the heat on Lee Fowler and Bobby Purcell. You let ole Wendell call those guys and start bitching…Chuckie is TOAST then. However, Lee doesn’t have the gonads to fire Chuckie on his own.

  39. 39 WestCoastNo Gravatar

As sad as it is…Amato will be here next year. Carolina wanted that game much more than State from the get go…and they played smarter than State. There was no enthusiasm what so ever on the State side line, and CTC didn’t look the least bit fired up himself. If State plays like this and CTC doesn’t get these boys ready to play some SMART football with some HEART…then ECU is going to murder us next weekend.

CTC will be here next year, and if it’s with Trestman as OC…then me and my family won’t be there with our four seats. It’s gotten beyond frustrating. Enough of the excuses….SCORE SOME POINTS!!!

  40. 40 graywolfNo Gravatar

And it continues…….who will be the next coach at NC State?
If its still Chuck Amato, next year will be really ugly.
Heck, its going to be ugly next week when they introduce him against ECU.

  41. 41 jaxpackerNo Gravatar

Deja vu all over again….I’m just so sick of seeing this kind of football.

When Chuck arrived I didn’t expect to win every game, but I thought we would see an exciting, fun brand of football - Hard-hitting, tough defense and wide-open ofense. At first that was the case. And then Philip graduateed.

Frankly, what we’ve seen this year is worse than any of Mike O’Cain’s years coaching the team. Usually during a losing streak you see improvement, but I just don’t see it happening. Perhaps some of you with a more critical football eye can speak up. Instead we get one excuse after another about poor player execution but I think more of it really poor coaching:

    1) continually outcoached, expecially unable to make half-time adjustments.
    2) team discipline, stupid mistakes have caused many costly penalties. We have to be one of the most penalized teams in the conference.
    3) predictable offense. do we ever surpise anybody?
    4) team readiness - often players are out of position or look lost in space.

ECU is going to be foaming at the mouth. I hope Chuck can get it together one more time. This could be embarrassing if he doesn’t.

    Saddly,

    Jaxpacker

I say if Bill Cowher, Norm Chow or Doc Holiday are not interested then maybe we should look at Philip River’s dad….Steve Rivers…Great High School Coach…Any thoughts?

  44. 44 LRMNo Gravatar

does anyone else see the irony in the fact that usually we don’t have any timeouts to use at the end of the game…but today we had all three and decided not to punt and use them?

  45. 45 NCSUDude17No Gravatar

    Running Wolf:

We need to look at Paul Johnson if Cowher and Chow turn us down, ahead of Holiday

  46. 46 Running WolfNo Gravatar

Paul Johnson is another great choice and I would put him in the mix…Great reminder NCSUDude17!!!!!!!

  47. 47 WulfpackNo Gravatar

“You are probably right, however, I’m not sure that Lee and the big boosters were ever as fond of Chuck as they were of Herb. And Herb was at least getting us into the postseason.”

Herb never finished dead last in the conference. Our football program is in the tank. We just flat out stink. If a change isn’t made, I will never attend another game as long as this clown is in charge. Great guy, great heart, but no leadership.

  48. 48 98st8No Gravatar

I am waiting for the headline that says “Amato resigns for the good of the program”… Chuck you gave it your best…we appreciate the loyalty, but Bobby will take you back

  49. 49 Cardiff GiantNo Gravatar

I agree, we need to look at Paul Johnson.

  50. 50 wvillepackNo Gravatar

Look at past history. We only beat the heels once out of every 3 or 4 tries. Doesn’t matter about teams records. Doesn’t matter who the coach is. We need a coach to get us out of this mediocrity.

  51. 51 drhammondoNo Gravatar

Re: all of the Chuck will be here next year comments…

My guess is you’re right as of right now–but–I also have a sneaking feeling that there will be A LOT of purple and gold in the stands next week–and that cannot be something Fowler will ignore!

Unfortunately, it’s a Catch-22 for fans: go and support our players on Senior Day (which I will be doing), which Fowler will undoubtedly view as the “majority” of the fans “supporting” CTC; or stay home and turn your back on a group of players that has played their heart out all year, but sending Fowler a message?

I just joined this site and wanted to write. I visited Raleigh last August and wanted to see the new stadium additions as it had been several years since I had been to Raleigh. The football team was just returning from practice and we watched them leave the fieldhouse after changing into their street clothes. The vast majority appeared to be street hoodlums with the traditional pants hanging off the ass, chains, etc. They got into their cars with the ubiquitous rap thundering from the cars.

I told my friend that State was in for a long haul because I could just feel that there is no discipline. After watching this disastrous season and the stupid personal fouls, mistakes, etc., it is obvious that Amato doesn’t have a grasp on this team. I’m away from the day to day goings on here in Dallas as they seem to like their own brand of football down here, but not too far away to know that a change needs to be made. Chuck has had more than enough opportunity to show what he can do. If we can get Norm Chow, do it. The man is an offensive genius. I do believe that I remember when he left State for USC that his family was from the West and wanted to get back to that side of the country. Hell, put a mop with stupid sunglasses on the sideline and it would be better than what we have!

    Go to hell, blue Scumbellies!

    Texaspackgrad

  55. 55 WestCoastNo Gravatar

There’s going to be at leas 10,000 Pirate fans in our stadium next week…probably more! Fowler will see that for sure. And as our offense musters 12 pts. (4 FG) that purple/yellow will be loud and don’t think for one minute Skip won’t keep trying to score on us.

Our Def. plays their hearts out, Off. does to at times…but our discipline stinks. I feel for the players, ’cause there’s going to be some ticked off State fans in the stands…not ticked at the players, but at the Coaches.

  56. 56 WestCoastNo Gravatar

    Oblinger’s email: james_oblinger@ncsu.edu
    Fowler’s email: lee_fowler@ncsu.edu
Email them today and let them know where you stand. Actually, better make it Monday or Tuesday as most of us are too upset to think rationally. Seriously, if we can write these guys a well thought out, educated, non-inflammatory email it certainly couldn’t hurt. At least they will know where the rank and file fans stand. Sometimes these guys (especially Obligner) are so far removed from reality they have no idea that Amato’s support has virtually vanished.

  60. 60 Micky McCarthyNo Gravatar

I actually think it would be more effective for each of us to contact your local Wolfpack Club rep and let your opinions be known, but make it clear that there will be no check written this spring if a change isn’t made. These reps are the men and women who have the true power, because they want nothing more than to make their annual giving goal. If enough people cause them worry, then you’re message WILL BE DELIVERED to the powers that be.

This will have to be a true grassroots effort, with a groundswell of momentum for change moving up through the ranks.

Face it, the common joe fan is nothing more than a gnat to Fowlup and Oblinger. A letter from you to them will promptly be filed in the nearest trash can.

“DE has been throwing into just as many double and triple coverages in the last four weeks as Stone ever did!”

“And did anyone catch the play where Marcus was wide open in the end zone (by the left sideline) and Daniel just throwing the ball out of the back of the end zone?”

This has nothing to do with one play, or one, two, three players. There is talent on this team,
Why is Stone on the field, should be the question? I have had so much Beer on Saturdays watching that I cannot remember when was the last OFFENSIVE TD we had? I agree CTC makes moronic decisions, but really as bad as the OC playcalling is, we need something to throw the opponent off guard. From what I saw today, Chuck and the team has given up. I pray he goes ahead and resigns.

All the ACC schools are spending the money to get better players, coaches, facilities etc. If we dont make a move now we will be forever on the catch up.The next thing that happens to us is we will start to lose existing players to transfer and possible recruits will turn to other teams.IF CHUCK HAS ANY CLASS AND TRULY LOVES NCSTATE HE SHOULD CALL A PRESS CONFERENCE AND RESIGNS MONDAY . Reasons to hire Paul Johnson:

    1)His success at Navy,

    2004: 10-2
    2005: 8-4
2006: 8-3 (with Army next week)

    2) He has something to prove. He has been told he can’t win at a big program with his offense. He wants to prove them wrong

3)If he can recruit solid players to Navy, he can recruit even better players at NCSU.

The only way any change is going to be made regarding CTC is to make enough noise to make things too uncomfortable for JED and the powers. Letters, e-mails, phone calls, personal visits, demonstrations, etc. from the big contributors as well as the small, will force a move. I think Chuck is probably an OK guy but he can’t coach to the level NCSU needs. We all need to make some noise. I graduated from State 31 years ago and I’ve never seen NCSU athletics this bad!
