It Looks Bad For Chuck

SFN will have a lot more scoop and analysis regarding the “Chuck Amato Situation” before tomorrow’s football game. Until then, we thought that we would direct your attention to Dave Glenn’s blog entry today.

“I’ve been around this university for a long, long time,” a former BOT member told the ACC Sports Journal. “I know the decision-makers, I know the trustees, and I know many other (N.C. State) people, and it is almost impossible to find anyone of influence who is standing in support of Chuck Amato right now. To my knowledge, among those folks, there is absolutely zero support for keeping him.”

    I’m at “Absolute Zero” too.

Well, can we say that Coker is on the short list, or does the ACC frown on any coach going between conference opponnets no matter the circumstance. National championship along with powerful recruiting ring in So. Florida.
Does a big win do anything for Chuck’s chances?

Chuck Neinas will be very busy (UNC, Miami) during the off season..if our people are smart enough to hire him.

What a bad Thanksgiving for Chuck. Poor guy.

I wonder if the Wolfpack Nation is ready to “Chow” down?

  5. WolfPup35 11/24/2006 at 8:52 PM #

LOGAN…..LOGAN…..LOGAN…..LOGAN….LOGAN! If he can win at lil’ ol’ easy-u, imagine what he could do at NCSU!!!

If Jed really wants to win a championship, then go for it..hire the best of the best, Chow likes the west coast, Logan knows how to recruit NC, and can really groom players to be the best they can be! If Chow don’t want it, then do whatever it takes to pull Logan in!!

Personally I’m saddened by the turn of events but even a big win over ECU won’t make up for more than one year of dissapointments. To keep Chuck would mean a firestorm of controversy with every loss in the next few seasons and I don’t think that is good for the program or for Chuck.

first of all, wolfpup35, you have no clue what youre talkin about… steve logan is not a good coach nor is he a good radio personality. he would be a worse hire than mike ocain again. talk to people who know what they are talkin about and tell us what they said bc u dont know. chow for coach for 3 yrs, cowher for A.D.

  8. Coach Lee Fowler 11/24/2006 at 9:15 PM #

    Put me down, as follows:

    1. Cowher
    2. Paul Johnson
    3. Grobe
    4. Willingham
    5. The very best available young O.C. who is a HC in the making from a major, sustained BCS powerhouse.

Whether we would hire Logan or not, he is a good coach and anyone who does not know that is not a very astute observer of football. The man can flat out coach, especially offense. Whether he is a good radio personality depends on your taste.

Personally, I think Cowher, PJ and Chow (in that order) should be allowed to say “no” before anyone else is even considered.

I think that we need to set our sights on the prize: Bill Cowher. It really does seem like the stars are aligning for this hire. I have visited some Pittsburgh Steelers message boards the past couple of days and they genuinely sound nervous. Bill Cowher is a big family man. I beleive that he has two daughters that are in college at Princeton and one daughter at Ravenscroft in Raleigh. He is a man that always went to his daughters high school basketball games at all cost. Our senior associate athletics director is really good friends with him. You have to know that the bug has been put in BC ear. I actually think there is a better chance of this happening than the Rick barnes saga over the summer. Can you imagine him on our sideline? WOW

How can you listen to wolfpack games on-line…is there a way? A way that is free?

  12. choppack1 11/24/2006 at 10:30 PM #

How ’bout this name – Dave Bennett – He’s the coach at Coastal Carolina. All he’s done is win 2 straight conference titles. They didn’t even have football until a couple of years ago – and a lot of NC boys on his staff. Look him up – he could be someone very special.

Did I miss something or is Chuck Amato the volleyball coach? I keep waiting for a leak that he has been reported talking to some other schools. Don’t we have to wait for some Jan 1st BCS when a bunch of coach’s and College Presidents smooze over cocktail brats and Budweiser?

  14. 98st8 11/24/2006 at 10:46 PM #

There may be no news on the coaching search for a long time… especially if Cowher and Chow are at the top of the list…The season does not end for another 5 weeks

  15. Coach Lee Fowler 11/24/2006 at 10:54 PM #

I think the Cowher thing is far fetched. It certainly is unprecedented. Why would an NFL coach leave a head coaching job to return to his alma mater?

    Regards,

    Al Groh

whatever the case may be, i dont expect this to be a quick hire… I dont WANT it to be a quick hire…. 2 months from now, if we dont have a coach… then maybe that just means it will be Cowher or Chow…

    my list:

    Cohwer
    Chow
    Grobe
Skip Holtz(he has done amazing things in Greenville)
Johnson(cant say I know much about him, but have heard many great things)

  17. legacyman 11/24/2006 at 11:27 PM #

    My list:

    Chuck.

    are you a sadist, legacyman?

^probably a little too late for that. I actually like CTC. I hope that he doesn’t hate NCSTATE after this weekend

  20. BJD95 11/25/2006 at 12:13 AM #

RUMOR ALERT: The Wolfpack Club bigshot who let my family use his tickets tonight (2nd row in Section 120!) says Chuck and Lee both get the pink slip after the game.

  21. highstick 11/25/2006 at 1:31 AM #

BJD. I hope your source is right@

Absolutely not Skip Holtz. What he’s done at ECTC is just a mirage for the failure that will come. If you think Trestman’s bad, Skip’s worse.

Regarding Amato’s standing with alums, most of the ex-players from 1961 want Amato to be given another year. Most think the only thing missing is a decent OC and a better than average QB. Maybe ex-players are just being easy on another ex-player.

Question: Why would we want to take a chance on a 60 yo OC with no HC experience who hate recruiting? I worry about his putting together an outstanding staff — nobody to bring with him.

Questions: Has the BOG approved the exception to Butch Davis’ contract? Are they waiting to make the BIG announcement when they introduce Davis?

Personally, just a hunch, but I think Chuck will be here next year and likely with a new OC and a new OL coach. Like it or not, the Pack would be BAD with a productive offense– like 11-1 or 10-2 this year. If Chuck could bring in an OC like Chow again, the Amato haters would have a long wait.

I think if BJD’s source turns out right, the liklihood is BC as AD, and then he hires the next football coach. If it is PJ, that would be great, anybody that could do what he did at Navy could win ANYWHERE. I’m not so sure he would bring a triple option attack either, probably more of a passing variant. He doesn’t give the impression he’s married to an offensive style, he just coaches to his players strong points. The triple option attack is vital at the Service Academies as it helps them counter athletic disadvantages with discipline and assignment football, neither of which has proven to be a strong point at State lately.

“How ’bout this name – Dave Bennett – He’s the coach at Coastal Carolina.”

Not bad. If you can win football games in Conway, SC…then for sure he could win at State. Just four years into the program, and they’re making noise. I wouldn’t be surprised if they gave ASU a run for their $$ tomorrow. Lots of Off. with his teams the last two years. Perhaps an O.C.?

What was the Class of ’61 record?
If LF & CtC are both fired at the same time then its seems to me that the coaching search just becomes more prolematic, I’m not seeing it.
As far as the rest of it……based on what happened on hoops, I’ll just sit back and see what happens.
I’m not convinced CtC is going anywhere unless he decides to step down on his own.
As far as whoever was saying about hating it being at Thanksgiving, listen Chuck has three years left on his contract, he’ll get a big payoff to lessen the sting.
