“Effectively” being the key word in your post. That was not what she said or meant.

This line is particular is utter bullcrap: “…years of our culture like raising like men to want to not be like women and using language like ‘sissy’ and ‘you throw like a girl’ that demean women.”

Actually, it’s not if you break it down and think about it.

What do we mean when we say, “Don’t be a sissy” or “You throw like a girl”? It means one’s effort, or performance is subpar or otherwise not acceptable. The implication in that is being like a girl is subpar or unacceptable.

But really, it’s not ‘being like a girl’ we dislike, it’s subpar effort and performance, so why not say that? Do we appreciate people for giving their best effort and maximizing their potential? Gender shouldn’t even be a factor in that.

Also LOL at the hysteria over Limbaugh.

Yes, that was the very definition of hysteria…

If you enjoy listening to him, more power to you. I have better things to do than sit around eating boogers from under the table.

it was on ESPN dope, click the links and quit being obtuse

There are seven billion people on the planet, and god only knows how many media outlets with 24 hours a day to fill with anything.

I’m completely unconcerned about what a handful of people have said. But regardless, I’m curious what you think is demonizing about saying, effectively, we should raise men to not beat women? Note, that doesn’t preclude us from raising women not to hit men, or men not to hit men, or cats not to scratch dogs, or anything else. Like it or not, the stats on domestic violence are abysmal.

Also, the words of Limbaugh are like farts in the wind, completely inconsequential except for the volume he produces. I feel dumber for having read that transcript.

Well if breitbart.com and Rush Limbaugh say it, it must be true!

He is a Heisman Trophy, national championship winning QB, with a long wrap sheet. He was accused of rape, and he is now shouting these obscenities. Said it before, not the sharpest tool in the shed.

And the NFL execs are playing close attention.

    Addendum:
    Glennon’s only season:

‘GP CMP ATT CMP% YDS AVG TD LNG INT FUM QBR RAT
    ’13 247 416 59.4 2,608 6.27 19 85 9 3 45.6 83.9

McCown’s most comparable season (his third):

‘GP CMP ATT CMP% YDS AVG TD LNG INT FUM QBR RAT
    ’14 233 408 57.1 2,511 6.15 11 48 10 11 —- 74.1

In closing, Lovie kinda looks like an idiot.

PS: On topic, <3 Rivers and Wilson. I hope this is the year SD wins it all, to cement River’s legacy.

Edit: I can’t figure out how to format this for crap.

    Nitpick…

Admittedly, Tampa Bay Buccaneer QB Mike Glennon was probably thrown into the fire too soon and has taken a step back this year,

Kinda hard to make that claim since Lovie benched him immediately upon his hiring, and he hasn’t played at all this year, while McCown has been sucking it up.

So, not to be argumentative (because sincerely, at this point I’m really only doing this for good-natured banter fwiw), but…

It’s all good, contrary to popular belief, I don’t mind civil discourse.

You wouldn’t agree that Jimbo’s decision to suspend is an effort to help Jameis see the need to avoid future extreme outbursts of expression which might be perceived to insult certain groups of the public, either who are, or who view themselves to be disadvantaged or discriminated against?

FWIW, I fully agree that the punishment has everything to do with where he said it. In my view, that is precisely why there is a PC component (though again, not saying it’s a bad thing necessarily, nor that Jameis didn’t have it coming).

I totally get what you’re saying, which is why I chose mooning as an example.

I think the core of why (I think) it’s not PC is connotation, i.e. avoidance taken to extremes. There’s nothing particularly extreme about expecting someone to display better judgement.

Obviously, you now agree that there’s a PC component motivating the actions of the suspension. ;)

    Not to be pedantic but….

    Via Google:

political correctness: The avoidance, often considered as taken to extremes, of forms of expression or action that are perceived to exclude, marginalize, or insult groups of people who are socially disadvantaged or discriminated against.

In my opinion, what’s happening here doesn’t fit that definition, primarily because I think the ‘punishment’ has more to do with where he said it than what he said. If he had jumped up on the table and mooned everybody, I think the reaction would have been the same.

An official “suspension” for yelling obscenities? Let the coach bench him at his discretion and forget about the false set of standards that are made up on the fly. Is he an embarrassment? Immensely. But Jimbo Fisher better make sure he doesn’t have a “lip reading” episode next time the cameras are on him.

He wasn’t suspended for yelling obscenities. I guarantee you if he had done in a closed practice, in front of coaches, nothing would have been done, other than maybe some running.

He’s being punished for choosing to yell obscenities while standing on a table in the middle of campus. It’s like real estate. Location, location, location.

Actually, he’s probably being punished for this because he wasn’t really punished for the rape charges, or the shoplifting. If those other things weren’t swirling around, we probably would have gotten a statement from Jimbo about kids being kids and teaching Jameis to make better decisions, and that he really is a fine young man with a bright future.

I think if they were “really” tired of his crap they would have cut ties with him as an “employee” after this incident.

They’re sick of his crap, they’re not sick of winning.

Yeah, I’d love for someone to explain the PC angle of this.

He has a history of poor decision making and they’re probably just sick of his crap.

“many past NC State teams would have found a way to lower themselves to the competition.”

    Nailed it!

Which year was it we either barely lost, or squeaked out a win against a Maryland team playing with a converted linebacker at QB?

Yeah, today’s not a good day to get on my bad side. Best to let me discover that hanger on my own.

It’s a minor error that doesn’t take away from the article. You guys also don’t realize that it’s not as simple as fixing a word.doc when editing. It isn’t difficult but I wasn’t going to spend the time fixing it.

I’ll have you know I’m kind of a big deal in the wordpress blog community.

If she was physically assaulting him, I don’t buy it that she bears no responsibility. If we have equality, you cannot say one sex cannot defend itself from attack from another. The surprising thing about this video is the ferocity of the punch and his disregard in the aftermath.

The problem is he’s a heavyweight, and she’s a featherweight at best. They should never have allowed a catchweight fight between two such dissimilar fighters.
