Dave Doeren won his first road game as head coach of NC State and the Wolfpack snapped a 6 game road losing streak with a convincing performance in Ta

09/13/2014 at 8:05 PM #56249blpackParticipantVery nice team win. Excited to see State pile up the yards and points.
09/13/2014 at 8:05 PM #56250ZaphodParticipantFrom the last possession of the first half against Old Dominion, until the middle of the 3rd quarter today, State scored touchdowns on 12 of 14 possessions. That is an incredibly efficient offense. Great game for the Pack.
09/13/2014 at 8:23 PM #56259Classof89ParticipantWhat this game confirmed for me is that the ODU and GSU offenses are among the top third of the teams we will face this year. Defense made USF look horrific.
09/13/2014 at 8:23 PM #56260choppack1ParticipantWhat should be noted is that we were awful in red zone last year…..when it has mattered this year…again, wow.

09/14/2014 at 4:37 AM #56287tjfoose1ParticipantWhat I liked most about the game… DD being ticked off at half.
09/14/2014 at 6:14 AM #56288TexpackParticipantCow Dog beat me to my first comment.
After watching UF last night, I’m pretty sure that we ended up with the better of their two QB’s.
Does anyone know why Creecy got so much more time yesterday than he did against ODU? All three backs were effective, just curious if there was some injury last week.
As Dave Huxtable’s most vocal critic on this board, I have to give him credit for the best defensive performance I’ve seen from a State team since Mario graduated. I just hope that wasn’t Fools’ Gold yesterday. It’s hard to imagine USF being that bad, but I guess we will see.
It was really different to sit down and watch a State team dominate somebody for the full 60 minutes.
After last night’s beat down in bean town, the second four games of the year look really tough. If we win one of those I’ll be surprised.
09/14/2014 at 7:55 AM #56289lawfulParticipantMario didn’t graduate.
09/14/2014 at 8:22 AM #562901.21 JigawattsKeymasterI know a lot aren’t going to like this but I think we learned less from this game than we did from GSU/ODU. (I’ll admit I didn’t see more than the first quarter due to the weather/satellite) I’m going back to the you can only take away negative when you play bad competition and USF may be one of the worst FBS teams there is this year. Remember they were beyond awful last year, they struggled to beat Western Carolina giving up tons of yards and points, they lost to Maryland at home after MD had 6 TO’s. My point is the close game against MD is the anamoly for an awful team, not an indicator of a potential decent team.
I wish I could have seen most of the game to see what mistakes State made that were carrying over from the other games this year. The few things I saw was mainly Burris stumbling to give up the first TD, Cherry not lining up on the line that negated a 40 yard run by Brissett before the end of the half, Cherry dropping the punt catch twice which led to a FG on the second one. MVS should be nicknamed Stonehands, he’s repeatedly dropped numerous easy passes that have hit his hands all year. (If I got some names wrong sorry).
The only positives you can really take away from this, in my opinion, are the intangibles: confidence (though it may be false confidence if the staff and players feel too good about what they did).
I’m happy for an easy win and having a quality QB again but I think USF showed it’s still as bad as they were last year and State showed just how bad you can be when you don’t have a QB, instead of thinking State showing they are better than we thought.
Consequently the game against Presbyterian will be more of the same.
09/14/2014 at 8:37 AM #56291BJD95KeymasterThe Presby game will indeed be worthless. But I think this one had some meaning. Road game, in front a weird, almost post-apocalyptic atmosphere (maybe 250 people in attendance at an NFL stadium), and we just flat out pantsed them. Anytime you can do that to a legit 1-A foe (even a bad one), I’m impressed. Because we aren’t Duke, coming off a Coastal title. We are NC State, coming off 0-8 in conference. I did not expect to see anything close to that, and thusly am impressed.
Perhaps a 6 or 7 win season isn’t a pipe dream after all. Wake is putrid. That means we only have to scrounge up 1 or 2 more Ws somewhere.
09/14/2014 at 8:45 AM #56292StateFansKeymasterI think this is a super conversation and can’t really argue with either side of the coin I am seeing.
When I take away what State did yesterday along with the performance of other teams, my conclusion is simply that our ‘chance to win’ bucket of games is just a little larger than I thought before. I think Louisville, UNC and Georgia Tech are more winnable than I previously thought. I think Syracuse & Boston College are probably heavily dependent on home field. And, we better friggin beat Wake.

Indeed.
Lville is not as good as I thought. UVA is better than I thought. BC is better than I thought. Wake is putrid. The games against BC, Cuse and GT will be toss-ups. Could be a good season. Nice job thus far starting 4-0 (yes, we will beat the Blue Hose).
09/14/2014 at 9:19 AM #56295JohnGalt78ParticipantYikes…BC beats #9 USC! So much for a slight break in the schedule before Lo’ville.
09/14/2014 at 9:51 AM #56296BJD95KeymasterEverybody in the ACC except FSU (consistently good) and Wake (consistently awful) seems very unpredictable from week to week. That’s my take, anyhoo.
09/14/2014 at 10:14 AM #56298WufpackerParticipantEnjoyed the easy win.
Expectations fundamentally unchanged.
The season’s WTF (win or loss) has yet to come so don’t get cocky.09/14/2014 at 10:22 AM #56299BJD95KeymasterI finally put my finger on what this team reminds me of – the first RW/Papa John’s Bowl team. They won 6 or 7, then lost a close post-season game.
That’s not to say Brissett is another RW – just the team overall reminds me very much of that one. Not that different from the horrid team of the previous season, except at QB. And with leadership from the QB, the rest of the roster pretty much maxed out its somewhat limited ability.
Only possible WTF losses would be Presby or Wake at this point. I think even last year’s wolven crew would beat this sorry Wake squad at home.
09/14/2014 at 10:22 AM #56300TheCOWDOGModeratorUSF is a very sad team, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they wind up playing better football on the road.
It was cool to see a road win like yesterday’s,but there is much to do,yet.
Looking past The Blue Hose,ya gotta think of this team as 2yr old colts training for the 3yr old campaign. We won’t really know what to expect when they go to the gate, but they’ll be fun to watch run.
09/14/2014 at 10:43 AM #56301redcanineParticipantD-line worked out some issues. Brissett was great!
What happened on the play where Burris got toasted? Did he slip or stumble, or did he just flat get beat?
It really was a lot of fun watching our guys getting in the end zone so often.
09/14/2014 at 11:08 AM #56302MISTA WOLFParticipantBurris got burnt on that deep throw. Hell, you take that one play away and I believe USF barely passes the century mark. Regardless, a victory at ease that we have rarely been treated to over our recent past. It was nice not to drop 40 F bombs yesterday and just sit back and sink into the couch with my 40 oz. of freedom.
09/14/2014 at 11:33 AM #56303inhoc…ParticipantAnyone know if there’s a way to watch a replay online? Didn’t get to see the game yesterday.
