This is disappointing beyond all belief that this could happen on our basketball team after the amount of suffering we have had to endure for the last 25+ years. I am just flabbergasted and disgusted.

Here is the reality. I have been around sports my whole life and I am knocking on the door of 50. I’m going to tell you all something about coaches. A good coach is RARE. Maybe only 1 in 10 to 1 in 15 people make truly good coaches. The people that are the best don’t just know the game. Most every coach knows pretty much how to play the game. The best coaches know how to put together a team and teach it how to win. DD is sorely lacking in this category. If you really have to ask yourself after 5 years if your coach is a winner or not, then he is not a winner. If you think he is at this point, you are accepting mediocrity. You should always strive to find that winning coach. Our team finished the season 8-4. We really didn’t have any unexpected wins this season except for maybe Louisville and we lost 2 games we should have won. Clearly we underachieved. Our coach doesn’t realize the importance of a kicker after 5 years. All this points to an overwhelming case of mediocrity. If we had lost the UNC game it would’ve just been the straw that broke the camel’s back. I hope DD ends up at Tennessee. We need to continue our search for a winner.

Meanwhile, Duke throttled WFU who beat us last week. We beat UNC…which is great. But we struggled to do it. We are a true underachieving team. We should be at a minimum 9-3 and really 10-2. Our coaching staff have failed to realize the importance of a kicker. Our play calling sucks. We are generally not fun to watch because of how we under achieve. Why do I not feel better after a win?

    ACC officiating is extremely inconsistent.

I still see an L coming. Hines needs to step up again.

Hines has had enough. He is taking over. As an aside, Alabama is behind 2 scores.

This is the worst we’ve played all year since USC.

We are not going to win this game. We are pathetic. Poor play calling. Poor clock management. No kicker and pretty much no desire.

Every time they punt we are at our own 15. They are killing us on field position.

Just God awful clock management! What is wrong with our coaches? No one manages the clock that poorly but us.

I totally agree Pack1997. I gave us zero chance to win at WFU. DD is a good recruiter but he is just a jock in the end. He really doesn’t have football smarts. Good coaches are rare. I would say only 1 in 10 people have what it takes to coach a TEAM. There are many, many out there that are just mediocre. He is one of those. Our clock management and play calling are poor very often. DD has had years to get one but clearly doesn’t understand the value of a good kicker. We get bonehead penalties at the worst possible times. This points to a lack of discipline and control over team. Very, very typical of a coach that suffers from mediocrity. On the surface it seems that we have had a pretty good year but really who did we beat that we weren’t supposed to? Louisville and FSU? In reality, our record puts us right where we belong. In mediocrity with our coach. I would not be one bit surprised if we have an L this weekend.

Say what you want…officiating calls in close games have already been discussed prior to game time. Maybe not specifically but generally. The goal being to make sure long term conference goals are met. I’ve just seen it too many times in many different games.

I know we are a mediocre football school, but I get so sick of schools like Wake and Maryland being the teams that stand between us and a decent season. There is a just no excuse for losing to WFU. None.

CTC was not a good coach and neither is Dave Doeren. They both have or had great recruiting ability and that’s about it.

I totally agree with you Wolfanatic. They spent more time reviewing the catch after the passer roughing than the touchdown fumble. Also, in the previous possession Wake had a catch that was right on the ground on 3rd or 4th down and there was no review. I kept saying to myself “time out for review” but it never happened. I was just sitting on my couch in disbelief. If I had only seen this once in my life it would be shocking but I must say, after years and years of this at the end of games, I am not surprised really. I knew the outcome long before this game ended.
